Just got the results of my MRI and was wondering what I can expect in surgery and rehab.
Pretty bummed out, I was hoping for better news.:td: All because of a moment of carelessness. Make sure you take your time climbing up and down those treesteps.

The closest I've come is a torn meniscus in my left knee. But the meniscus is cartilage, not a ligament...so I'm sure the approach to repair as well as the recovery are quite different. That said, all I can offer is that in my case the resection was a routine outpatient procedure, and I was back on my feet (gingerly and with some pain for a while) after just a few days of sitting on my backside with a gizmo that circulated cooling fluid around the knee to keep the swelling down. That was probably 12 years (or more) ago and I really don't notice it today, unless I put a lot of strain on it.
Ultimately that's probably not of much value to you, but it's all I've got. Sorry.

luv2 I have a crossbow you can use..
brother law tore his mcl and acl ..second acl.
.mcl and acl was a golfing accident..the second time he just let it go.. any side to side movement he's screwed ..seems to be doing are right though..its a long recovery.
good luck they need you back on the heavy highway squad..

OK, did some reading and looked at the diagrams. That just made my knee hurt worse. I'm doubting I'm going to bounce back like Adrian, although we're real similar in athletic ability.:-)

What does luv2 do? He gets up off the ground, tears his treestand down, walks up the ridge and hangs his stand in a different spot.

I qave up on finishing a stand last week after just six steps...I've never run into a tree THAT tough..It was stopping my 18V drill cold. I don't know if it was frozen solid or just filled with concrete...Plus it leaned the wrong way just enough to make things difficult...But obviously I needed more Wheaties...
I decided to wuss out and let the trail cam pics this week tell me if I should continue.
I commend your dedication. Your second set must have had some good potential. :-)

Second set was trails leading to a good bedding area. Couldn't get it as high as I wanted with the pain.
This season wasn't a total bust, learned some new areas and got more familiar with an old area. At that location, the light bulbs went off as I hunted it this year. Think I understand how the deer are using the terrain there.
I'll verify after rehab.:wink

yes. got it blown out in a soccer game about 15 years ago. I locked shins with a guy who had tree trunks for calves. stupid move, but it was a tournament and if I won the ball I had a straight run at the goal. Also, I have carried at least 4 kids off the field with the same injury.
clean pop. it didn't hurt much, just a bit of swelling and low throbbing pain. many times the pain comes from collateral damage to other parts of the knee. The tell-tale sign is hyper extension and a weird quick unstableness when just walking around. I let it go for about a year in complete denial before heading to the ortho who I knew for a long time since I coached his kid. He was also a team doctor for the Colts, Butler University, and Indiana University. He pretty much told me it was screwed and it didn't matter when he operated, except for the possibility of more damage.
The operation is very rote and these guys do it in their sleep. Just make sure you go to someone who does knees only, not a generalist who does hips, shoulders, etc. Its all about the rehab and keeping the swelling out of it. He took a piece of the platella in the same knee as the donor tissue and stapled it in place. The TSA sees it in every airport. It was cut on a Monday, woke up later with my knee in some movement gizmo, and went home Tuesday. Getting the quad muscles to remember how to move the leg took an hour on Thursday. Started walking around a bit on Friday, but only in straight lines. A month later I stepped onto a racquetball court and played off one leg. 4 months later I was snowboarding in Colorado, although not real aggressively and more concerned about the happy hour specials.
The knee heals faster than the psychological aspect of trusting the leg again. That took at least a year.

It is what it is and more of an aggravation and certainly not a show stopper. At least 5 of my friends have been through it. If your knee is really jacked up like the meniscus, maybe go for a replacement. Those heal much faster than they seem like they should

Torn ACL huh, I've had 34 of them & it barely slowed me down for a few minutes. Just be thankful you still have a knee & smile:wink

Thanks for the offer billy, but it might be a tad too long.:wink They do have me in a stupid brace that goes from my ankle to my crotch already. Something about instability, bone movement, blah...blah...that's about the time I starting daydreaming and looking at the charts on the wall. I am the world's worst patient, with the attention span of a 2 yr old at the Disney store.
I'll be good as new in a year or two. Then I'm going on a hunting trip somewhere, but not to Ohbie's since he didn't respond to my PM.
That's OK, I wanted to hunt with someone nice anyway. I hear there's like some deer in Iowa or something.

Yeah, big story on the news here the other night, true story. Some Amish were out at a store and while they were inside someone drives by and shoots their horse.
They don't even realize it, hop in and make the horse take them home. They get home and notice blood coming from the horses mouth, he collapses and dies, 2 shots to the chest.
Them horses is tough. Can't imagine anyone local would shoot an Amish horse. Idiots.
