A dollar to a donut that stimulus money funded the survey. I didn't realize we had so much justice in my sleepy little county until we built a big honkin' gargantuan new Justice Center with some ObamaBucks. You should see this thing.
Secondly, I would think that the results of a "voluntary" survey conducted by uniformed police who pull you off the road would be suspect anyway. I have a loose understanding of surveys and statistics, and while I am no meteorologist, I do believe I'm smarter than the fifth grader who came up with this idea. 3.) luv2bowhunt - 11/20/2013
The bigger the Justice Center, the greater the justice. You need a big building if you're serious about big justice.
Same thing is true for Township Buildings. You can't expect a local gov't to do big things if they don't have a state of the art 3 million dollar ginormous Township Building. Get with the times Andy Rooney. 4.) Ventilator - 11/20/2013
Too bad they still only pay the good cops about 30-35k per year. No wonder there are so many bad cops.
5.) Alex - 11/20/2013
**UPDATE TO THE VIDEO ABOVE** Fort Worth police initially said they could not immediately find any record of their officer's being involved in the roadblock, but on Tuesday police spokesman Sgt. Kelly Peel said Tuesday that the department's Traffic Division coordinated with the NHTSA on the use of off-duty officers after the agency asked for help with the survey.
You know I used to hold out hope that stories like these would not only wake people up but also drive home the point that all this fascist behavior is less about politics and political parties and more about money, control and corruption. But for every single instance I have been disappointed to see the usual retreat behind party lines. They did it. No THEY did it. Doesnt matter that it happens in TX.. arguably one of the Reddest states in the country... nope.. it was the feds. And even though the local police did help, well they were just poor slobs doing it for money. And well, money talks and these weren't bad cops. They were working within the rules of the system and almost certainly had the blessing all the way up the channels of authority. It's all BS gentlemen. It is currently now, and has been for decades about power, money and the pursuit of increasing both. It ramped into a whole 'nother gear with the Patriot Act after 9/11 and it hasnt slowed down one tiny bit. No blue state, nor red state candidate has done, nor will likely do anything about it. If you still believe it will then you simply dont understand that a system of power and control is not a system of representation. And that system will do what it has designed itself to do. Maintain and increase the very thing that it is built on... More power. More control. More wealth. yep, it's a shitty thing.. and a shitty perspective but I would wager it's still pretty damn accurate. 6.) DParker - 11/20/2013
There aren't enough details in the story for me to draw any conclusions about the cops involved. They may well have been operating under orders that they thought to be lawful (cops aren't legal scholars, to be sure).
As for pay, the average salary for a Ft. Worth PD cop in 2011 (the last year for which I can find data) was $59,873, with a starting salary (after training) of $52,187. 7.) DParker - 11/20/2013

Yep. See my previous post. By the way, this NHTSA program isn't just being conducted in TX. I've seen reports of it elsewhere too.
Wasnt suggesting there was here, other than the weak Obamabucks connection funding the federal surveys. I suppose my point is more about the prevalence for non-sitting political party to be the most verbose regarding these ongoing transgressions. We heard it from the blue states non stop when King George was in the chair and we hear it from the red states with Lord Obama sitting. But it seems a rare few are able to see beyond the political wind of the day and see that this trend is truly color blind. It's got a lot more legs than the past 6-7 years and the system is DESIGNED (at least in it's current state) to protect itself and expand itself. So once again, a system of control is not a system of representation. I cant think back to a sitting political party that was truly representational in my lifetime. It's not coincidence that every political campaign for the last 30-40 yrs has been run on the theme of "change". Lol... we've been changing the color of the carpet over and over hoping that will help with the rotting foundation. Not that I have any answers. I dont really. The only real change that will likely occur will come from either real collapse or real revolt or a combination of both. Just one man's opinion mind you. 12.) DParker - 11/20/2013

The 15 Sins Or Less aisle was a good idea in theory, except that there's always some dumbass in front who wants to write a check. 13.) DParker - 11/20/2013
All I know is that we've really lost our edge in this country when it comes to government scandals, and need to pay attention to the Serbians, who know how to engage in scandals that grab and hold your attention...

Well, I said it saved me from "having" to use it. Posting it anyway then became purely gratuitous, 'cuz I just ran across it, thought it was funny and was trying to find an excuse to use it. :-) 24.) Swamp Fox - 11/20/2013

Here's another entry for your State Fascism Files, this time from Ohio:
First person arrested under new 'hidden compartment' law Here's the money quote...
Without the hidden compartment law, we would not have had any charges on the suspect," says Combs.
...which naturally brings to mind Ayn Rand's famous warning from Atlas Shrugged:
"There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.”
26.) bluecat - 11/21/2013
What's the statute of limitations on taking a few paper clips from the office?
27.) Wild Bob - 11/21/2013
Paper clips...that has to at least 7 years, I would think. Why, are you guilty?
-WAIT! Don't answer that. Better tie this back into the original topic so that you/we are not labeled as 'thread jacking homos.' :-) Ya know, there are so many things wrong with taking paper clips from the office...I can't begin to assess the social psychological / economical issues. 28.) DParker - 11/21/2013
The state does not frown on office theft, as it involves involuntary wealth redistribution from evil capitalist corporations to the good and pure proletariat.
29.) DParker - 11/21/2013
On the other issue...
When my son and I went on our guided bear hunt deep in the Bitterroot Mts, the camp cook (who was also the guy in charge) was one of those stereotypical strong, silent mountain man sorts. An amiable guy, but just didn't talk much. The kind that, since he didn't expend much verbiage on frivolous matters, it became all the more funny when he did say something humorous. So when we were all standing near the mess tent with him looking around, obviously looking for something, and he came out with a very slow and relaxed, "All right...which one of you homos moved my coffee?" my son about busted a gut, thinking it was one of the funniest things he'd ever heard. It's all in the delivery. 30.) Wild Bob - 11/21/2013
Gotta love good camp humor...there's nothing quite like it is there! :applause:

I'm using "state" in the general sense meaning "a government", so....whichever. :wink 32.) Wild Bob - 11/21/2013
I'm with you...just cutting up.
33.) Swamp Fox - 11/21/2013
I have a feeling the secret compartment prohibitions are not going to be around too long. At least not in current form, where "intent" seems sufficient to prompt charges over an empty compartment.
