My brother has been getting trail cam pics of this buck since last year. He spent a couple months patterning him and set up some stands in likely areas. He had no sightings of the buck even when the other bucks started getting really active with the rut. He needed to make an adjustment. He thought about it and realized there was a draw between a large scrape where he had pics of the buck and some huge rubs out in an open area, that was the spot! He put up a new stand and sat in it right away. Suddenly, he was seeing all kinds of bucks running by. He was on to something! On only the second day in the new spot, the buck he was after finally went by. Unfortunately, he didn't offer a shot. A short while later, Mike heard noises behind him in the direction opposite of where the big buck disappeared. To his amazement, it was him again and he was headed right towards the stand! He must have done a big circle and came back. By time he got the bow off the hook, the buck had already passed under the stand and was headed away. Mike drew the bow and stopped the buck at only 13 yards or so and immediately released the arrow. He saw it enter low just behind the leg. The buck crashed off and stopped some distance away, through the binoculars, Mike saw lots of red as the buck stumbled out of sight over a rise. After a short wait, he went to collect his trophy. What an animal! The buck is huge with double split G2s and a big drop tine off of his left beam. He later scored the beast at a whopping 168 7/8" gross and a still impressive 153 5/8". I think it is quite a feat to target a particular animal and manage to get him. Congratulations Mike! Great job! Regretfully, I was once again unable to share in the recovery and celebration. I was an hour out of town on the way to go musky fishing. One of these years, my brother will be courteous enough to shoot a nice buck while I'm around!

The equipment:

06 Bowtech Alegiance

Gold Tip XT 5575 27"

100g Rage Hypodermic

The Rage Hypodermic functioned perfectly leaving a large entry and exit wound. The shot was beautiful, double lung and heart.

Thank you for the kind words everyone!
11.) luv2bowhunt - 11/19/2013
Not bad I suppose................:wink Big congrats to your bro, that's a monster.

One question, why didn't you shoot that one? We could have used the points for our team. Heaven knows I won't be helping us.

.......I'm on the 60 day DL now.:td: MRI coming up on Thur.
12.) Triton Rich - 11/19/2013
Oh I woulda shot it but I can't hunt with him. The land owner is very picky about who's on his place. Meanwhile, I'm having my worst season ever as far as hunting the rut. The only deer that has winded me all year was a P and Y 9 point! That and I plain old haven't been able to get out as much as I'd like. Oh well, anything can happen I guess. Good luck with the MRI L2!
13.) luv2bowhunt - 11/19/2013
Worst season? Worst season?

You know nothing of worst season my friend. Whatever your story is this year I can 'undo' it. :-)

I explained this all to Swamp Fox via PM.

Let's just say, it was bad, not to mention the treestand accident/injury.:td::td:

It was bad...I had decided to stop drinking and avoid mind-altering drugs just last night, and then when I heard from Luv2, all that went out the window....LOL

:p

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.

Yes, sounds like you win! I'm just crabby cause I was out of town for those few days that really matter each year. So what happened with the treestand accident? Is that what the MRI is about?
19.) luv2bowhunt - 11/20/2013
Unfortunately yes.

I was going to move a hang on stand with metal tree steps. Was coming down after a morning hunt and it had snowed and the steps were wet. Hit the last step and my foot slipped off, so I just decided to jump down to the ground, only an 18" drop, no big deal.

What I had forgotten about was that the ground sloped down hard away from the base of the tree. Landing was awkward and severely hyperextended the left knee. Pain was severe and I went down like a ton of bricks.

One of those times, as soon as you do it, you know something bad happened. I tore the stand down anyway, and walking on flat ground it didn't feel so bad, so I went ahead and moved the stand. That was a joke, because I could only space the steps out 12"-14" because I could barely lift my left leg to the next step.

Couldn't hunt the next day at all, too much pain, so I bought a knee brace and tried to hunt the rest of the week.

Ended up just sitting on the ground in a small woodlot at my daughters house. Flat ground made the walk in much more tolerable. Actually saw more deer there than where I was hunting in the big woods.

MRI tomorrow and we'll find out if I did anything more than sprain the ligaments. Reminder to myself and everyone else, be careful ALL the way to the ground and take no step for granted.

Pretty much ruined my annual last week of the season vacation hunt.

Oh Man, that sounds pretty awful! Hoping for not too bad news from the MRI. I won't get out much the rest if the month but I've got til Jan 15th. The chances of getting a big buck are severely diminished now though. But again, I'm losing perspective. There are guys who struggle to see any deer so I should be thankful.

Beautiful buck!
