2.) billy b - 06/23/2013
Whatever for:cf:
3.) Hunter - 06/23/2013
He was the lucky winner of my free hunting equipment giveaway with optional hog hunt included. Great times!
4.) crookedeye - 06/23/2013
did you guys shoot anything ..are was it more or less kinda like a date thing where you took swampy out to lunch??:-)
5.) Hunter - 06/23/2013
Actually......... Swampy took me out to lunch. Is that a date??????? ewwwwww

As far as hunting....... Swampy and his compadres........... there was an arrow flung and a rifle shot..........

I will let Swampy give HIS version of events
6.) luv2bowhunt - 06/24/2013
Wow. So he can and Florida to his list of states that he's missed game in?

I hope he comes here this Fall to buy me lunch and miss a nice buck.
7.) Ventilator - 06/24/2013
Well, he had threatened to go down there for years. I guess since you are moving, he thought he better get down there. LOL
8.) Hunter - 06/24/2013
Swampy's prize winnings........

I'd like to thank my sponsors....

:wink
10.) Ventilator - 06/25/2013
swampy, thats a terrible recap of your adventure. you need to try and do better.
11.) Swamp Fox - 06/25/2013
Besides a 20-hour contortion act in the back seat of a small pick-up...."Extended cab" my aching butt!... LOL

I hear a lot of people asking "Where's Waldo?" but we found it pretty easily. It's in the north-central part of the Cracker State. These are my buds Mark and BooBoo standing under the big white horse. "Horsey, horsey, in the sky, why you do that in my eye?"

If the flea market had been open, we would have browsed for some Florida souvenirs.

photo 100_1109.jpg

We got some good eating in on this trip, of course. Here's Hunter (Ted) with the boys at one of the best places to eat in Arcadia, Fla. I give it two thumbs up for the food, the portions and the name, of course. Ted made us some excellent ribs and some killer rice when we arrived Friday night.

photo 100_1114.jpg

In between eating and gathering gear that's relocating to Camp Swampy, we got a little hog hunting in. On Saturday morning, I missed one with a rifle and BooBoo stuck one with an arrow. He'll only go in water up to his chin unless it's a beach vacation, so unfortunately we didn't recover. Here's Ted and BooBoo getting ready for the afternoon hunt and discussing whether or not I should be given the same rifle as I choked with earlier in the day, or would it be more fun to see if I'd choke with a different one.

photo 100_1116.jpg

Finally, I want to thank Ted for his generosity and hospitality on behalf of the three of us, and for all the guys that will get the benefit of his donation. I know he's got a great opportunity with his move to Texas, but how can you not miss a hunting camp like this when you're baking in a dry heat surrounded by cactus and mesquite? :wink

12.) bluecat - 06/25/2013
Looks like a great time! Thanks for the pics.
13.) luv2bowhunt - 06/25/2013
....which I could see.....IF YOU UPLOADED THEM FROM YOUR COMPUTER!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I get time I'll have to refigure my Internet Protocol settings so I can see them. But I was right about adding FLA to the states Swampy had missed game in.:tu:
14.) Swamp Fox - 06/25/2013
So there are only 56 states more to go! :wink

I thought you fixed your viewing problem, Luv2...

All I can get is thumbnails when I post from my computer, so I thought this time I'd go through the trouble of PhotoBucket...If somebody would tell me what's the deal with fixing the thumbnail problem, I'd gladly skip the hassle of the Bucket...
15.) luv2bowhunt - 06/25/2013
But with the thumbnails, I click on them and they get bigger. So it's all good.
16.) luv2bowhunt - 06/25/2013
Why would anyone move to Texas?
17.) Swamp Fox - 06/25/2013
'Cuz it's a dry heat in some places, LOL.

I'll repost with thumbnails if I get a second....
18.) luv2bowhunt - 06/25/2013
Don't bother. I just have to logout of IE, change the setting, and log back in. Then I can see all the bells and whistles.
19.) Ventilator - 06/25/2013
Nice trip looks like. Tell booboo i said hello. he is a good feller! :wink
20.) Hunter - 06/25/2013
The only thing worse than Swampy missing his shot is that Boo Boo was present when he missed. Luv2 has nothing on Boo Boo when it comes to rubbing salt in the wound!!! That man is relentless!
21.) Swamp Fox - 06/25/2013
LOL...

Yeah, he never misses...That's why they call him BooBoo :wink
22.) Deerminator - 06/26/2013
Awesome

Nice camp. Good times.
23.) Hunter - 07/01/2013
Good thing you came down when you did, Swampy. We are having a monsoon right now. That 2-man stand would have been waist deep now!
24.) Swamp Fox - 07/01/2013
LOL...

I was thinking about the timing while I was there, LOL, and glad the water was low (except in front of the Circle K...:wink...They were throwing up rooster tails driving through there...

We got crushed again the last few days, too. I'll prolly have to go back in the swamp and bail out that boat again :tap: though I tried to set it so it would be better protected this time. BooBoo wanted me to set it upside down, but I told him the only way I'd do that is if he promised to be the one to stick his hand under it when we went back. :wink...

I can hang a canoe or kayak up on a couple of tree trunks pretty easily, but I have to rig some kind of sling or special hooks for that boat the way it's designed.
25.) luv2bowhunt - 07/01/2013
Just reach your hand up under there. What's the worst that can happen?:wink

Reminds me of the time I was fishing down at the golf course creek and sat next to the old pipe culvert................I should never have reached down in the water beside the pipe..............
26.) Swamp Fox - 07/01/2013
I have a good snake-under-a-canoe story but am too lazy to type it all out. Maybe I could speak it into my phone and use voice recognition....LOL

Well, you successfully linked a few pics so, yeah...go for that bleeding edge technology.
28.) Swamp Fox - 07/01/2013
I'm talking at it, but nothing's happening. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

:p

You need to download the Carolinian dialect English input module. Yeah...that.
30.) Swamp Fox - 07/01/2013
Funny story (I think): I won a Southwestern Bell voice-activated phone in a raffle back in the late 80's. This was the kind of phone that you couldn't dial...The only way to make a call was to speak the numbers. So, what you had to do was say in a fairly loud voice, and slowly, "CALL [pause] Nine... One... Nine..., Nine... Two... Nine..., Five...Six...." etc.....

I was setting up an office in my basement apartment at a time when things weren't going too well for me and every penny counted, so I was damned if I was wasn't gonna try to make this "free" phone work for me---I was gonna get my money's worth, I guess, LOL...no matter how frustrating it was to make a simple dang phone call, which I was gonna have to do at least forty or fifty times a day.

Well, you know where this is going: A good third of the time the phone didn't recognize what I was saying, so at first I thought maybe I'd have to develop a Texas twang or something like it for a Southwestern Bell phone. :-)I didn't know anyone except Texans from the Southwest, so I knew I was gonna be SOL if the phone wanted me to sound like I was from Arizona.

Finally, I figured out the phone wanted you to speak very slowly in a flat accentless newscaster's voice, so I tried that for a while with moderate success until I finally gave up and broke out some Yankee dollars for an AT&T two-line phone with buttons and a cord and all that good stuff. :-)
31.) luv2bowhunt - 07/01/2013
Ah the late 80's. When phones were PHONES.

I can still remember watching my next door neighbor and realizing she was sitting beside her pool, talking on the house phone. She was carrying around a big cordless phone with a 2' long antenna.

I thought wow, how cool, no cords. I went right out and got myself one when I could afford it, which was about 8 years later.

Oh, well...there was your problem. According to the U.S. Census Bureau TX is a part of the "South", not the "Southwest" (though there are some other definitions that place us in the latter). And people from AZ (legally) pretty much don't have any accent to speak of.

My biggest gripe with modern phones is that they're completely useless as impromptu home defense weapons. Back when corded phones were 8 lb contraptions with steel chassis you could cave in a home intruder's skull with one if that was all you had at hand. Try that with a 7 oz. cordless handset.
34.) Swamp Fox - 07/01/2013
LOL...If someone asked me where I think the Southwest starts, I'd have to say somewhere in Texas, but I do consider East Texas "Southern."

How far west East Texas goes is the question. ;)

And then there is that not-insignificant problem of Texans who don't like sweet tea. :fire:

I still freak out when I see someone talking to himself on a headset, wandering around on the streets or in a store. Or worse, wearing the headset, and not talking. I always want to go up to them and ask how much of a moron do they think they look like.
35.) Swamp Fox - 07/01/2013
Hint: the answer would always be an underestimate. :wink

The Texas highway traveler's lament: "The sun has ris', the sun has set...and we still ain't out of Texas yet!"

Guilty. Though I'm not a native.

It's the ones walking around talking to themselves without a headset that I tend to keep an eye on.

This chick did OK will her smart phone. Scroll through the pics, you can see her just as she's striking the blow. Some of PA's finest.:tu: Follow up story said the wound to the Eagles fan was from the girls cell phone.

Philadelphia, isn't that where they booed Santa?
39.) DParker - 07/01/2013
Oh, well sure...an Eagles fan. They're bleeders anyway, and he no doubt had it coming.

But I'm distracted at the moment by the would-be jumper drama playing itself out right now on the highway interchange that my office overlooks. It's the 3rd one since we moved into this building.
40.) luv2bowhunt - 07/02/2013
Did he jump?
41.) DParker - 07/02/2013
Did he jump?
Nope. They talked him down after 4 hours of thoroughly hosing up traffic on the two busiest arteries in the area. They had more patience than me. After an hour of that nonsense I would have pushed him just to get it over with.
42.) bluecat - 07/02/2013
Where is Riggs when you need him?
