Didn't see any turkeys, morels, sheds, arrowheads but had a great time. 2.) bluecat - 05/02/2022
Two weeks ago, I got out there before dawn but they had already flown off the roost so I was sol. So I got up at 3:30 (yes that's right) arrived way before sunrise and got set up. That was the morning they vanished.
3.) DParker - 05/02/2022
You should have shot that decoy. The way he was just standing there and taunting you? He had it coming.
That looks nice though. I didn't get to hunt at all this season, what with the house stuff and all. Now I'm envying you. 4.) bluecat - 05/02/2022
It confirmed to me how much of hunting has little to do with the actual killing of game. I got refueled by listening to springtime and wandering the creek. I really would like to find an arrowhead someday. That would be the best day ever.
5.) DParker - 05/03/2022
Yeah, that's what I really look forward to the most every season. The peace and quiet, occasionally interrupted by nature and experiencing something new.

That's what all the vegetarian hunters say ... :wink 7.) Swamp Fox - 05/04/2022

Some people are arrowhead magnets. I know a couple of them. I share nothing with them on a molecular level, but everyone else seems to find plenty of arrowheads. But I do know it pays to spend a lot of time where there were a lot of Injuns ... But out in the Plains, they were more spread out than here in the East ... Or were they? Maybe you just need to look where they were most concentrated, and maybe that could be easier than here because all the rest of your area is just ... huge tracts of land. But maybe there were just more of them here, or for a longer time? I don't no. All I no is that I bet CE is having so much trouble finding Custer's hat because he's either looking in the wrong place or using the wrong metal detector ... So don't be like CrOoKEdEYe... :wink But I mean, like, who really nos all this stuff anyway? 8.) Swamp Fox - 05/04/2022
Also, keep an eye out for Viking battle axes.
(You never no ...) 9.) Swamp Fox - 05/04/2022

3:30 doesn't surprise me. That they vanished strikes me as odd. Did they get spooked off the roost early? Did they change roost sites all of a sudden? Why? I think the one thing Plains hunters have going for them, compared to here, is very predictable roost sites. Well, maybe not the **ONE** thing, but you no what I mean ... 10.) bluecat - 05/04/2022
Yeah, I'm shaking my head on that one. There were about 4 Toms, 4 Jakes and about 10 hens previously. Didn't even hear a gobble. Going to try again Fri afternoon.
11.) Swamp Fox - 05/04/2022
I always blame other hunters when things get boogered up like that.
Over the years I developed a sixth sense for when "my" gobblers were getting messed with. I feel like I was absolutely right more than half the time ... LOL 12.) bluecat - 05/04/2022
There isn't anyone out there. It's all private property.
13.) Swamp Fox - 05/04/2022
Ah... Then you just suck.
LOL ... :wink Can you hunt Saturday AM after Friday PM? 14.) Swamp Fox - 05/04/2022
Ah... Then you just suck.
LOL ... :wink Can you hunt Saturday AM after Friday PM?
Yes, I do suck, but I can't get up at 3:30 in the morning again. It takes me a week to recover from that. You either go early or go later in the morning after they've had a chance to mess around. Trouble is, they may travel a mile and not come back till dark. Big country. 16.) Swamp Fox - 05/04/2022
I much prefer morning hunts but they do wear on you unless you can get on turkey time, especially if you have to drive every morning.
A cot or a camp chair back at the truck, or the ability to sleep on the ground wherever you are: Priceless. 17.) Swamp Fox - 05/04/2022
I came up as a whippersnapper reading stories of turkey hunters hunting every morning of a season (some long ones, too) and then going in to work--if work was even mentioned-- and then regularly roosting birds that night and getting up in the wee hours to do it all over again ...
I tried to do it myself for a long time. I came to a number of conclusions: To make this work--- You have to have turkeys out your back door. You are independently wealthy, self-employed and willing to run your business into the ground, or you have an extraordinary bossman who doesn't have a bossman himself, or has the balls to ignore him. You have to work a mid-shift. Your gear lives in the truck. Find a cool spot for your bow, and either cable your shotgun, stash a cheap one, or get everyone used to seeing you tote Ol' Thunder in and out of work with you. You are only hunting fly-down and the immediate aftermath. You will be hunting henned-up toms. You have easy access to ice, or to a refrigerator owned by a person not real fussy about what you put in it until you you can come back later, in case you get lucky. You can put yourself to sleep anywhere at any time, including standing up and upside-down: in a bed, in a hot Bronco, in leaves, pine straw or tall grass---ticks, chiggers, snakes and scorpions be damned. --- Also, in an office, break room, or business meeting. 18.) Swamp Fox - 05/04/2022
Also, don't let your calls cook in the truck ...
19.) Swamp Fox - 05/04/2022
Ask me how I no ... :wink

You left some off though. You are single and food and personal grooming are not that important. 21.) bluecat - 05/04/2022
Funny cause there is a Double Bull Dark Horse Blind and backpack in my Blazer right now. I managed to remove my bow.

DP and Swampster, have you ever watched "Skinwalker Ranch" on History channel? If not, I endorse it completely.

I've never seen it. It sounds like it involves zombies, or porn...or zombie porn. 25.) bluecat - 05/04/2022
You are close. It is naked zombies that forge knives.
That's a pretty good list. You left some off though.
You are single and food and personal grooming are not that important.
Good point. Tho: While being single and de-emphasizing personal grooming and hygiene are luxuries I can afford (!), most days I have to look pretty for work, or plan around it,, LOL ... So, hunting (and living the pirate life) have both caused issues. Hat hair has been a main problem. (See what I did there?) As for food:
Limerick In Progress ---Working Title, by Anonymous I might be single, but I can bring home the bacon, fry it up a pan, And e'en if I couldn't I can open a can .
27.) bluecat - 05/04/2022

My guess was nudist colony. I hear you never meet the people you want to at one of those ... 29.) bluecat - 05/04/2022

I've always said a man should have a hunting truck and a fishing truck, and then the little lady can do whatever she wants ... 31.) Swamp Fox - 05/04/2022

LOL ... +6 You'd be surprised how many girls with hair on their legs find me attractive.... 33.) bluecat - 05/05/2022
Are you sure they are women?
34.) Swamp Fox - 05/05/2022
LOL +4 ... No, +7
Well, so far so good, but I'm ever vigilant... 35.) Swamp Fox - 05/05/2022
This reminds me of my day yesterday ...
36.) Swamp Fox - 05/05/2022
This is more like today ...
37.) Swamp Fox - 05/05/2022
I'm hoping tomorrow is like this:
38.) bluecat - 05/05/2022
Are you transitioning tomorrow?
39.) Swamp Fox - 05/05/2022
Probably not, but I've figured out the scam with guys in Irish dance ...
40.) bluecat - 05/05/2022
They're only there to ogle Irish chicks?
41.) Swamp Fox - 05/05/2022
Well, either that or they're very merry ... :-)
42.) bluecat - 05/05/2022
Do they like Cher?
43.) Swamp Fox - 05/05/2022
Doesn't everyone? :wink
You hear about gypsy moths? Tramps and thieves? That's messed up, right? 44.) Swamp Fox - 05/05/2022
No, seriously ... If I had a son that I knew about, I'd tell him to get into Irish dance or horseback riding ... Possibly both if he's a glutton for punishment ....
Football and bassetball will come along naturally ... 45.) bluecat - 05/05/2022
"I've got you 'mass of biological material'", is one of my favorites.
46.) Swamp Fox - 05/05/2022
It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye ...
47.) Swamp Fox - 05/05/2022

48.) bluecat - 05/05/2022
Ease up on that son, you'll go blind.

That's liable to blow your mind. 50.) DParker - 05/06/2022
Let me tell you about high paddling vs. low paddling ...

55.) Swamp Fox - 05/08/2022
Or right off, as we used to say ...
