I've often thought that if you took, say, Dallas, Houston and Austin and the six surrounding counties orbiting each one and gave them back to the Spaniards, it would be a big improvement ... Plus you'd get some hot Spanish girls travelling over here to sort out the mess, which has to be a good thing ...

I guess I was being a little confusing. Maybe not worst but they don't fit the mold of the Christmas norm which is probably why I like them so much.

Just spitballin' here, but I think you can date the surge in "not the norm" Christmas songs to about the early 80s. It's my impression/recollection that most were poorly received originally, but that's not to say they didn't get a lot of airtime.
Over the years, a lot of those songs have stuck around, with many of both the good ones and the bad ones becoming perennial classics.
I believe I heard Christmas music on the radio late September/ early October this year. ISYN. Christmas coffee creamers on the shelves, too.
