I know this is very location-specific, but would you rather fish September through mid-October, or hunt?

If fish, what for?

If hunt, what for?

Show y̶o̶u̶'̶r̶e̶ ̶w̶o̶k̶e̶ your work, but I'm keeping the poll anonymous for you anarchist types ...

(I hope you're wearing a mask while surfing this ....) :re:
2.) DParker - 07/10/2020
Since the only public land hunting opportunity here during Sep. is for dove...and it's still hot pretty much the entire month...I'd probably opt for fishing (catfish, crappie and LM bass) if I had to choose. The fact that we have a relatively long stretch of hunting seasons helps.
3.) Swamp Fox - 07/10/2020
"I forgot to vote"

I'm printing up some stickers Americans can wear in November ... :wink

If you're on the East Coast, September seems a good month for travelling hunters ...

Fishing can be tough before the water turns over.

And once you kill/spook your buck off your corn pile, then what?

It can be a long month ...
4.) bluecat - 07/10/2020
It's all good, but given a choice hunting in the evening, fall is my favorite.
5.) bluecat - 07/10/2020
I don't really care what I'm fishing for but I love fishing with a bobber like a small kid.
6.) Swamp Fox - 07/10/2020
Around mid-September here I'll switch up from catfish to bass, and from nights to mornings.

It's easier hunting afternoons but more likely to booger things up.

So there's a period where I want to hunt AND fish mornings, and afternoons are just not that attractive.

You have to have the right set-up to hunt mornings though, especially with a bow. Just about as tough as the right place to get out of in the evening, but I think AM sets have the edge.

Zebco 202, bluegill, sunny day - the only thing missing is a cooler of pop and sandwiches. Yes, I said pop for you easterners.
9.) Swamp Fox - 07/11/2020
Whenever one of you people (to borrow a variation on the phrase) says the word "pop" I silently giggle and think of the toy-making scene from Elf.

(Before Elf was made, I just silently giggled...)

a slip bobber is the way to go ..set youre depth and cast like a pro. and dont forget the lighted bobber
12.) crookedeye - 07/11/2020
i always liked the times when i kinda wanted to go deep with a regular bobber set up..my bobber was probally set at 10 feet, it would be laying in the weeds behind me..i would cast and my worm would go one way and my bobber another way
13.) crookedeye - 07/11/2020
you gotta be smooth
14.) crookedeye - 07/11/2020
if i had a dime everytime a minnow come flying off my hook
15.) crookedeye - 07/12/2020
i always did like the old fashion bobber way..if you made a perfect cast ..the bobber and worm would fly threw the air on course with the bobber hitting first than the worm in front of it
16.) crookedeye - 07/12/2020
the perfect bobber and worm cast ..is close to a flyfishermans perfect cast

22.) crookedeye - 07/12/2020
getting back to the bobber thing..if youre bobber is in front of the 10 foot line with a worm on the end, and you make a perfect cast one will follow the other in a circular motion.. almost as a ballet. its a beautiful thing
23.) bluecat - 07/13/2020
my main goal is to shoot a dove next weekend and grill up a jalopeno bacon wraped dove..
So do you have three boxes of shells that will eject, or will it take more?
33.) Swamp Fox - 09/28/2020
I catch a lot of deer activity around 10 -11 AM in the early season, just as I want to climb down. Of course, it depends on the type of area you're hunting. It would be transition areas in my case.

Not too much action earlier, but the temps are often nicer in the morning.
34.) Swamp Fox - 09/28/2020
I like when people talk about transition areas ...

It's not that they don't exist around here, but if you're looking for distinct bedding and feeding areas and an area in-between that's neither, good luck --and good luck hunting it.

You're just as likely to bump a buck coming in at mid-day to set up as to blow one out climbing down at dark in a lot of areas that are neither "bedding" nor "feeding" sites. I'd call those transition areas.

So I guess once that happens, you move on and just chuckle at the guys who like to present hunting strategies in neat little boxes.

Perhaps a better term for the Holy Grail would be "travel corridor", a designation you don't hear very often anymore. I can't come up with a good reason why not, except group-think.
35.) bluecat - 09/28/2020
You guys and all your high fa-lutin words ("travel corridor").
