There will be recommended scopes for that rifle. My Nikon buckmasters was made for .22s. It's not as big as a regular high powered rifle scope.

How far under $200 are you wanting to stay? That could really narrow things down with regard to short/compact rimfire scopes. And how short are you looking for? Just something under 10" or so? Or something more along the lines of a "tactical" optic? Also...what kind of shooting are you going to use it for? Benchrest target-plinking? Perforating bunnies/squirrels?

Look at Weaver, or some of the refurbished scopes at Natchez. I haven't been in the market for a .22 scope for a while, and I'm a Leupold guy (Gold Ring, baby!) but I put a Weaver rimfire model on a lever-action for an inexpensive scope on a rifle that kept falling out of the canoe, and was quite pleased with it.

The challenge is finding a mounting system that works and that you like.

So, neither type of round is better than the other, so long as you use a bit of logic in deciding which gun to shoot.

Hoo-boy!

I just looked on ebay for these scopes and they're selling for more than the original MSRP now, even used.

So feel free to disregard my previous advice about trying to find one at a good deal, though the little guy on my other shoulder keeps whispering, "There's gotta be at least one desperate dummy out there who doesn't know what he's got."


I wonder if Leupold knows how badly it's screwing up.
