Its been a while since I have been on here and just thought I would stop in and wish you all the best, I hope everyone has had a great Hunting season, and I hop you all have a happy and prosperous new year..
2.) DParker - 01/01/2018
Long time no see. Glad you're well.
I've got the Happy New Year covered. A local whiskey distillery does flights! 3.) Pa bowhunter - 01/01/2018
Thank you DParker, it looks like you have New Year well covered..
4.) bluecat - 01/01/2018
-5 right now, just sayin. (not wind chill)
5.) Pa bowhunter - 01/01/2018
We are up to a balmy 18, started at -4 this morning...
6.) Triton Rich - 01/01/2018
Happy New Year fellas! Since we're reporting temps, it's -4 in Chicagoland this morning up from -10 overnight.
7.) Swamp Fox - 01/01/2018
Hey, Pa bowhunter -----
I don't even want to know what it is here. It's cold enough to freeze water and keep it frozen all day, so that's enough of that! Bringing that "winterizing your hose" thing back up again ... LOL 8.) Swamp Fox - 01/01/2018
I was almost supposed to be tent camping this week. Glad that didn't happen!
Just dumb luck that I'm not out there. Here's how smart animals are in the cold, though: Have you ever seen them drink from the side of a bowl or trough that's catching sun? They'll get right up on the metal or poly/plastic or whatever it is. A few degrees makes a difference! "It's good to be inside!" 9.) Swamp Fox - 01/01/2018
I was gonna title this "The Eighth Day of Christmas" but then I figured that would just enrage Crookedeye...
So I call it "New Year's Day" or "Christmas Gift Gone Horribly Wrong".
10.) Swamp Fox - 01/01/2018
11.) Pa bowhunter - 01/02/2018
Hello Swamp Fox, this week would be a little chilly to be tent camping..
12.) Swamp Fox - 01/02/2018
LOL ... Yeah, I've done it before for a couple or three days in the high teens or low 20s at night, but I remember the days as warmer, so it didn't wear you out as bad, LOL. This time I would have been out for an extended period. Not sure I'm in the mood for that anymore, LOL.
Last night we were down to 6 here, which is nuts. 13.) Swamp Fox - 01/03/2018
... Not sure I'm in the mood for that anymore ...
"Suck it up, buttercup ..." 14.) Pa bowhunter - 01/03/2018
To me it's not the temp's that get me, but the wind, I haven't done any cold weather camping in years, but I am gearing up for it again as I plan on heading out west to chase elk, I wont be going this year, but 2019 will be my year..
15.) Swamp Fox - 01/03/2018
Wind'll definitely get you. Never lets you warm up. Humid cold is the worst, though, I think. Subtracts a bunch of digits from the temp in "feels like."
Where do you think you'll go? Rut hunt? 16.) Pa bowhunter - 01/03/2018
Its looking like Colorado or Idaho, it will be a DIY hunt, cant afford a guided hunt, and don't know that I would get the satisfaction out of a guided hunt that I will get from a DIY hunt.
17.) Swamp Fox - 01/03/2018
Cool. If WildBob ever wanders through here again, he might be useful.
18.) DParker - 01/03/2018
Last night we were down to 6 here, which is nuts.
And we were whining when it hit 14°F here yesterday morning. Relatives and friends we have in the northern states were saying, "Above zero? Pfffft. Shut up." 19.) luv2bowhunt - 01/03/2018
Good to see you're still alive PA bowhunter.
I went hunting on New Year's Day morning, was 1 deg. when I parked. Had the entire State Forest to myself, pretty sweet. Plenty of deer left judging by the fresh tracks in the snow. Passed up on a few doe. Good luck on your future hunt. 20.) luv2bowhunt - 01/03/2018
Humid cold is the worst, though, I think. Subtracts a bunch of digits from the temp in "feels like."
OK, I'm curious. How do you get humid cold? Every time we get one of these arctic blasts that brings in the real cold, the dew points are ridiculously low. Today for example, -4 with a dew point of 0. When it's humid dew points are in the high to mid 70's. What is your dew point when it's cold down there? Humidity is all in the dew points. 21.) Swamp Fox - 01/03/2018
It's a balmy 21 here right now (9:45 AM) 52% humidity and dew point 6*. Got down to 6 last night again, according to Intellicast.
FWIW, they have the feels-like at 21 as well. Calm wind. All I know is that a dry 21 feels better than this does. Humidity in the 50% area is pretty standard. Of course, it can get a lot higher. It's partly cloudy. If it were going to precip, humidity would be higher. I'm not sure I understand dew point. Whenever I think I do, I look at the readings and scratch my head. 22.) Swamp Fox - 01/03/2018

The weather map yesterday afternoon had the morning lows in NYC, Raleigh and Atlanta within 1 degree of each other. 12 in NYC and Raleigh, 13 in Atlanta. I was at 6 out here in the semi-country. The map had Cleveland at 6. r 23.) Swamp Fox - 01/03/2018
That's measured temps from yesterday morning, not predictions for today.

If your dew point is 6, it's not going to get much "drier" than that. Dew point is the real indicator of how much moisture is in the air, not relative humidity. For example, a temperature of 30 and a dew point of 30 will give you a relative humidity of 100%, but a temperature of 80 and a dew point of 60 produces a relative humidity of 50%. It would feel much more "humid" on the 80 degree day with 50% relative humidity than on the 30 degree day with a 100% relative humidity. But who really................never mind. 25.) Swamp Fox - 01/03/2018
I hope I'm posting a screen shot for Friday, after a clear, sunny day tomorrow to remove the possibility of aberration. Columns are (left to right) Temp, Feels-Like, Dew Point and Humidity.

Feels like, comes from the wind speed, wind chill. Not RH.
Yes...........I am a weather geek. 27.) Swamp Fox - 01/03/2018
But who really................never mind.
Oh, c'mon! Put in the effort. LOL.. I'm going to read that a few more times to absorb it, but it might make sense. All I know is that I'm miserable on the 30* day with 100% humidity and coping pretty darn well on the 80/50. :-) I'm no meteorology student, but do you know how dew point or relative humidity is calculated? I think wind has something to do with dew point. And on a note of personal triumph, I'm surprised my print screen link got up there. Next challenge: figure out how to post it as an actual image. 28.) Swamp Fox - 01/03/2018
Feels like, comes from the wind speed, wind chill. Not RH.
Yes...........I am a weather geek.
Understood. But it seems colder when it's "humid cold," whatever I mean by that. 29.) Swamp Fox - 01/03/2018
"Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony." 30.) luv2bowhunt - 01/03/2018
Dew point is the temperature at which the water vapor in the air under a constant barometric pressure will condense into liquid water. Wind has nothing to do with it.
The RH is the amount of moisture in the air (via moisture mass or vapor pressure) divided by the maximum amount of moisture that could exist in the air at a specific temperature (via max moisture mass or saturation vapor pressure). Dew point is tangible, RH is so much hocus pocus. 31.) bluecat - 01/03/2018
"Throw him to the floor centurian?"
32.) luv2bowhunt - 01/03/2018
Anyway, deer season was fun.

Although maybe I thought if there was some wind blowing on a non-rainy day, it was "drying things out," LOL. 34.) Swamp Fox - 01/03/2018
I was going to post a weather meme I made, but it was too big for this site and would have come out as a thumbnail anyway, probably, so I said screw it and it's just on my computer now.

Just wanted everybody to know ...

Any highlights? Lowlights? 37.) bluecat - 01/03/2018
Luv2 is like an eclipse or a whale breach.
38.) Swamp Fox - 01/03/2018
He was called away to a pothole emergency. I'm sure he'll be back again for a day or two in the summer to follow up on his report.
Any highlights? Lowlights?
Passed up a couple 2 1/2 yr olds. Had some decent daylight mock scrape activity this year.............more to follow. 40.) Swamp Fox - 01/03/2018
I'm living vicariously right now, so just let me know when you're about to start so I can refill my popcorn and get back to my seat.
41.) bluecat - 01/03/2018
...that was the extended version.
42.) Swamp Fox - 01/03/2018
Dang.
Hopefully the credits are good, then. I almost always pick up on a good song from the soundtrack, or learn something about a shooting location. 43.) luv2bowhunt - 01/03/2018
...now that I'm thinking about it, I thought Alex's Christmas photo was weak this year. I guess I expected something a little more professional with a little better subject matter and artistic flare. Or maybe in his case..autistic flare.
Just sayin' 44.) luv2bowhunt - 01/03/2018

Deer raisin, I'm guessing.
46.) Pa bowhunter - 01/04/2018
Luv2 good to here you had a good season, my season went of pretty good, no Deer in the freezer though, passed on a few younger Bucks, and blew it on a few older bucks, I was hoping to make it back out after Christmas, but life happened, then the Saturday before new year had some Boiler issues and spent two days getting parts and fixing it..
