im just looking for somthing to carry my essential in ...like a knife, tolit paper, my comb, a grapefruit to snack on, maybe some rasins..plus water....you need a bottle of water while hunting in youre stand ..thats the most important thing is water..you get dehydraded up there..

I've always been skeptical of how good "bow-carrying" capability really was. I want the bow's finish and string protected, and I don't think many do that.

Plus there's always the "What happens when you fall on your bow?" question.

Would be interested to see individual models people think prove me wrong.

What are the pros and cons of the Slingshot, since you've looked one over? I thought about that style for something a year or so ago, but never did anything. I think my idea was to wear it in the front while carrying a stand, but I don't remember. Might have been for turkey hunting.

I have a Monster and a very small pack that Badlands might have discontinued. The Nano? The Monster might have been a prototype and has some comfort issues, The other pack is too small for my typical day. So I was probably looking for something to complement those two.

Looks like somebody like me with older packs would probably have to get some different buckle hardware, but it's a start. I think you might be able to make it work for the Scout pack, but I assume the Pursuit would be good to go. Call Badlands, 'cause I don't see where they say yay or nay on these two packs. Pursuit's a little bigger than 1000, Scout a little smaller.

Although it sounds like a good idea, I would not want my bow riding on my back like that. I have to duck under too much crap and it would snag. Hard to negotiate a bow through trees when you can't see it.

My system of carrying a bow has worked flawlessly. When I was hunting and it was under 20 degrees I sat on the duffle. The ensolite padding inside the duffle kept my whole body warm when sitting on it. Didn't count on that but it is a really nice bonus.

I realize this is probably more pack than you want but they do make different sizes. If you purchased a comparable pack via Badlands or some of the other designer pack companies you would pay 300+ (and that's just starting)

I will probably pull the trigger on this, this year. Full lightweight frame capable of hauling heavy loads/meat. Infinitely customizable, affordable, shoulder straps, waist straps, tough. What more do you want?

I think the standard Molle ruck is still 3000 cu. That's a good size for all-around use, and by all-around I mean "a little more than most would need for day hunting."

I've been staring at my bellybutton for a few years about whether I want to go in a different direction about a meat pack. Maybe now I'll stare with greater intensity, since you bring it up.

But back to the bow carrier. According to the copywriter at Badlands, you only fall forward:

Thus the bow you carry on your back is completely safe.

There was a carry system I saw a while back that had padded or soft flaps that went over the riser and/or string. I thought that went a long way toward meeting some of my objections to bow carriers on packs. Every time I see somebody cinch a piece of strap or webbing down on a bow riser and then make out like tey're going hiking with that arrangement, I just wince.

Saturday, when I was crossing a steep creek I almost went down...backwards. Started up one side, bank was slick and I lost my footing.

Swampy have you seen the frame of those molle packs? They look amazing. They have gone through a couple of iterations I believe. They are on Gen IV which is the upgrade to Gen II. The only change I see is they made it a little stronger.

I haven't seen one in a while. I might make a trip to my local A/N surplus to take a look, not that there's much hope of finding a newer one. WWI gas masks, yes. Recent issue, no.

That gives me an idea for a rant ...

Maybe as useful as a rear view mirror on your pack so you don't have to turn around while hiking/packing.

The A/N stores are hit and miss unless you have a good one. If I need some faded, mis-sized, shrunken, overpriced holey bdu's that have already seen a pretty rough life, I always know where to go...
