Also, they're allowed sometimes where other firearms are not.
Gotta do something about that. Are we sure astronauts are the only people who live in outer space?
Muzzleloaders, the group said, are dangerous because they are specifically exempted from the NFA and it accuses the gun industry of trying to exploit that exemption. "These laws prohibit convicted felons and other dangerous people from possessing guns, require gun retailers to be licensed, and require licensed retailers to conduct background checks on purchasers," the report said. "There is one blanket exception to these laws, however: the exception for antique firearms, including muzzleloaders. The gun industry is determined to exploit this exception." Muzzleloaders, which require gunpowder and a projectile to be manually loaded down barrel of the firearm before each shot, and other antique firearms are exempt from the NFA. The antique firearm exemption applies to "any firearm not intended or redesigned for using rim fire or conventional center fire ignition with fixed ammunition and manufactured in or before 1898 and also any firearm using fixed ammunition manufactured in or before 1898, for which ammunition is no longer manufactured in the United States and is not readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade," according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The group views the centuries-old firearms technology, which was rendered obsolete shortly after the Civil War due to advancements in self-contained ammunition cartridges and semi-automatic; self-loading firearms, as dangerous because a silencer can legally be attached to it without the paperwork or tax stamp associated with other firearms silencers. "Cue the .50 caliber muzzleloader, which delivers a particularly lethal .50 caliber round," the report said. "This weapon is designed with a built-in device to suppress its sound. If any other firearm were built with such a device, it would be subject to the NFA as a silencer. But since this device is designed to suppress the sound of something that is exempt from federal firearms laws, it is not considered a silencer and not subject to the NFA. In fact, it is not subject to any laws at all and can be bought online." The group called on Congress to take action and pass new laws restricting muzzleloaders and the other products outlined in the report. After 90 some-odd shots and a little experimenting, you'd think the reviewer would have hit on something a lot more accurate than what I'm getting the impression he found.
Other than as a novelty, I don't know why someone would buy one of these in its current design. Maybe this'll be the new thing for urban hunting, though, where you just can't have people flinging arrows around from high capacity quivers. 4.) DParker - 11/16/2017
'Cue the .50 caliber muzzleloader, which delivers a particularly lethal .50 caliber round'
It won't just kill you dead like other rounds. It'll kill you more especially deaderer!
"Cue the .50 caliber muzzleloader, which delivers a particularly lethal .50 caliber round," the report said. "This weapon is designed with a built-in device to suppress its sound.
But, yeah...the validity of their concerns is made obvious by the rash of murders and other violent crimes committed every year by thugs with $1,000 suppressed muzzle-loaded black powder guns (yikes...and the name is racist to boot!) Of course we don't actually know about any such crimes....but we would if the evil ML manufacturers didn't build them with silencers!!! 5.) Swamp Fox - 11/16/2017

I have to admit, when I first heard about bump stocks, my first thought was that they shouldn't be legal but muzzleloaders? Really?
11.) Swamp Fox - 11/18/2017
Classic distraction.
It's hard to accommodate all your butthurt when it turns out the regulations you supported for regulations' sake were just so much fluff. So, you dig deeper to find some moral outrage and impugn the motives of those who found a way to work with your regulations in one of the few areas left open to them. I doubt anti-capitalism was a motive, back in the day, for making suppressor ownership a huge PITA. Once people realize that the emperor has no clothes, though, it's convenient to suddenly discover greedy boogeymen under the bed. 12.) DParker - 11/18/2017

911...What's your emergency?
I just heard some shooting down the block! Was it loud? Well, kinda. Kinda a boom .... Like a car backfiring? Well, no. Lower. Lower? Yeah, like a boom, but softer. Not really a bang. A car makes a bang. How many shots? Well, one. And then about a minute or two later, another one. Sounds like one of those suppressed muzzleloaders. We'll send someone out right away. Tell them to hurry! It's coming up on another two minutes! Don't worry, sir. Help is on the way. 14.) bluecat - 11/18/2017
That muzzle loader probably had a bump stock on it.

I'm not interested unless it has the under-barrel chainsaw attachment. 16.) Swamp Fox - 11/18/2017
Attention Callous Gun Nuts Who Don't Care About Their Fellow Americans:
Those are toast now that USA Today has exposed the danger of these forestry-grade implements of destruction. Chainsaws have only one purpose: cutting things up. Why do you need one? Of course, if we are successful in spending months and months and thousands of dollars an hour drafting and debating legislation (or doing an end-around and just regulating) there will always be people who will are so deviously ingenious and so particularly morally dead inside that they will exploit any exceptions that our expensive attorneys and lobbyists are not able to close. You really need to be clairvoyant to save lives from gun violence with laws and regulations, and we are seeking righteous Americans with paranormal talent or at least a ouija board to rally to our cause. See our listing on Monster.com. It's an affront to civilization and a threat to the American people that the NRA and the Chainsaw Manufacturer's Association have joined forces to resist even common-sense reforms supported by a majority of responsible citizens. "Dear Santa ..."
18.) DParker - 11/19/2017
Given the mass of the projectile, the muzzle velocity and the fact that the rifle looks like it's very light, I'm surprised that the recoil wasn't more brutal than it appeared.
19.) Swamp Fox - 11/19/2017
Some of the recoil effects seem to be between fairly mild and quite tolerable, some are just tolerable, and there are a few that seem to be mules. I think the video is trying to show the bullet weights increasing, but I don't know that the shots sync with the cutaways of the various bullets. I think the last shot that flips the log section up on end is definitely supposed to be the 1132 gr. bullet that the guy discusses later in the shop. If that shot was taken by the last shooter seen, I think there was probably some some damage to his dental work.
(Also, I appreciate that surprise guest shooter Stan Potts took a beating but came up grinning one or two rounds earlier. :wink) I'll have to watch it again (!) to see if I can match up recoil to bullet weights shown. Fortunately, this video is now on my favorites playlist, so it won't be unpleasant work, LOL. I don't know if it's the music or the merriment involved in shooting a rifle you built yourself in WTF, but it has something goin' on ... BTW, I saw an earlier video of the first shots with this gun (at least as a prototype) a while back, and recoil was quite mild if I'm remembering properly. I'm sure they had the first test rounds loaded down, but they did start off shooting it with a string from behind a barricade. :wink I don't remember if they explained what they had cooked up to start with. 20.) bluecat - 11/20/2017

Giffords is clutching pearls over several items in the "report," which is really just a medium-long blog post by someone who can string a list together. Think 9 Things Millennials Are Ruining For Everyone and you have basically zeroed in on the idea and approximate level of intelligence of this masterwork.
To continue on the topic of scary calibers (.50 is the one Giffords is going after at the moment because it is the largest not covered by the NFA, in rifles at least ) --and to keep the good music going on a Monday, here is a video brought to you by the number 50, where a 50-lb. rifle is not enough gun: "You lied to me! It kicks like a mule!" ----LOL 26.) bluecat - 11/20/2017
