OK, after using it for a couple of years I'm going to say it, the Glen Del buck is junk. Can't stand this thing especially compared to my old McKenzie targets. Finally broke in half last night, right under the layered block.

What is a decent 3D target that is under $300.00 or do I have to spend the big bucks for something that will last and not snap in half?

You can get a few of of the Rinehart models in that price range and under. I have a feeding doe that has held up very well.

Here's a buck well under budget, with a rebate for a bonus.

I'm guessing targets with replaceable inserts is what you want to prevent the problem you experienced.

Forgot the link, now above ^^^^^

Is that a dwarf buck target? Something looks wrong with the dimensions...........
5.) Swamp Fox - 09/21/2017
I didn't look at the specs closely. My doe target is small, though.

Aim small, miss small? ---LOL
6.) Swamp Fox - 09/21/2017
I see now it says simulated weight 100 pounds ...:-)
7.) luv2bowhunt - 09/21/2017
Probably the same size as the southern deer you're used to. :re:
8.) Swamp Fox - 09/21/2017
You could just pretend you're shooting from farther away.

If I may make a suggestion.

You can relativly easily fixt your 3d target and get a lot more use before a replacement is needed. I did it this year with an old mackenze that split between the nect and backstarp. Get a can of spray foam, the higher density stuff is better and several wire coat hangers. The first step is to cut the wire coat hangers into pencil size straight pieces. You can use this as a frame work to put the two broken sides together (kinda like rebar in concrete). Onec you instert the hangers leave a gap and fill it with the spray foam, then press the two sides together and coat the whole thing in spray foam, finally wrap the repaired area in saran wrap. Let it cure overnight, then remove the saran and trim the foam down with a fiiliet knife. Problem solved and you delay paying $300 for another target. This video is similar to the way I do it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JmDbQYMO_w&t=517s. Gus (my old target) Is on his third repair and going strong!
10.) luv2bowhunt - 09/21/2017
Ok, but the foam under the insert is super thin to start with. It's one of the flaws with the design of the target. One or two broadheads passing through this area essentially cuts it in half again.
11.) Swamp Fox - 09/21/2017
Is the Loc Tite foam similar in density (i.e. very light) to expandable spray foam you might pick up at Lowe's or an auto supply place? I've used the latter and can't say it holds up to very many shots. It's like styrofoam. (Maybe it is styrofoam. I mean, like, who really nos all this stuff anyway?)

I'll have to go looking for 3D target foam. Not sure I knew there was any such animal.

We all know you won't really do that. :-)
13.) Swamp Fox - 09/21/2017
Ha! I just did!

So take that! :p

14.) JGB Ohio - 09/21/2017
You could re-enforce it with some additional thickness when doing the foam. Or just throw it away.....
15.) Swamp Fox - 09/21/2017
Just listen to your heart. That's what I always do.

:wink
16.) Swamp Fox - 09/21/2017
Or quit taking heart shots. I have to say that the target I have is very solid, so that if I miss the insert, the structure of the target isn't taking a beating.

That's the entire problem with the Glen Del _uck. The body and legs are crap, so if you miss the insert with a broadhead (especially low), you're destroying it.

Do I need to post the "Aim for the heart, Ramon" video again?
19.) luv2bowhunt - 09/21/2017
Well if I'm reading that site correctly, it's $69.00 plus shipping for a repair kit. Or spend another $100.00 for a better target and buy a repair kit for it later on.

....or just be like alot of other guys and never practice.

Yeah. I would think going the primo repair route would only make sense if you had a primo target to begin with.

I noticed Lancaster carries a lot of R&W targets. I've never shot one but the price is right and there might be more acceptable sizes compared to Rinehart. (I haven't studied many of the Rinehart bucks.) R&W has a medium buck under budget and a large buck slightly over (Lancaster prices).

A quick Google search shows that for a backyard target, guys like them. The knock against them is arrows need lube until the target breaks in a little and pulling gets easier.
23.) Swamp Fox - 09/21/2017
I'll just throw this out there since we're talking about Gerry-rigging things. I doubt it will help this particular target since there's not much material to work with, but I bet it might help with a different decoy with more surface area, or a different kind of failure.

Lexel is an artificial rubber caulk adhesive that flexes and is waterproof, among other benefits. It's said to be able to stick to almost anything. I was going to use it for a fishing gear project but decided to go in a different and unfortunately more expensive direction.

I like the Rinehart cubes I have ... A lot. Those are some steals on Camofire.
