Any time your arrow rotates, you're gonna have more stability and ability for arrow to correct itself. Whether you would notice a difference between offset and helical, I don't know.

i have like 10 helicals fmj 400 thinking about buying some at cabelas which are straight are offset im thinking "hoping" there shouldnt be a difference in arrow flight are POI. say out to 40 yards

The good news is that if there is a big difference, you can always refletch. Not sure what the point (pun not intended) is of having a straight fletching. For the manufacturer, it must be easier to just slap them on.

what do you prefer offset or helical? the helicals expecially blazers with skinny shafts seems like they dont adhere as good.

for me anyhow the helical fly so much better with field points, mechanicals or fixed blades

I prefer helical but I don't have any evidence to support they fly better. I shoot blazers and I have a bohning jig that fletches them in helical. My Bitzenburger is also a helical but I use that for longer vanes/feathers.

i think the store brand with the straight are however they fletch them, seem to fish tail more then the helical..but then again i have no scientific evidence to support my findings...kinda like when i found that bigfoot hair..

I think somewhere out around 30-40 you'll notice a difference because of the difference in drag, the helical creating more. The difference will be more toward the 40 end than the 30, but still.

I agree with you about the Blazers and helical on some shafts. Not sure there's a good solution for that except to use wraps.

The impression I have is that if you're preparing for longer shots---40 yards and out, say--almost nobody uses helical if an offset will do.

[B]It's all about creating drag at the back of the arrow. It's typical to add some offset with helical. If you fletched straight with a little more offset, you'd have the same thing. I've always used helical but that's because I started with feathers and that's the clamp I have. I do have a little trouble getting vanes to accept the helical twist, it takes some messing with the offset to get it to work. I'm likely going to get a straight clamp soon and just use a touch more offset. Here is the other side of the issue. The more drag you create, the faster the arrow slows down and the more the arrow will drop. If you are planning on taking really long shots, it will have a noticeable affect. It can become a balancing act. I think for those of us who don't regularly spot and stalk out west, It doesn't make a big difference.[/B]

The guys above have summed it up for you. In the rare chance that I might say something to upset you CroOkeDeYe, I apologize in advance.....
The short 2 or 2.5" Blazers or other similar vanes won't attach really well if you try to use a helical clamp, so you will have to glue them using a straight clamp and offset them as much as you can. The helical clamps are really for feathers and vanes that are 4" or greater. The more offset you use, the faster it'll spin and the more accurate your groups will be. You will also have more drop as you push out to 40yds and beyond due to the drag created with the vane grabbing the air.
At 20yds, I doubt you'll be able to see any difference between, vanes, feathers, offset, helical, 2, 2.5, 3, 4 or even 5".

If you want Blazers and helical get their own jig. Really a nice unit and not very expensive. Really puts a nice helical on a blazer vane.

i did the bareshaft tuning thru paper before i went turkey hunting this year..my mechanicals where shooting a inch right i think.. of my field points at 10 yards, i thought what the hell. after bareshaft tuning my arrows where flying like darts out to 30 yards both field points and mecanicals which is good enough for me expecially turkey hunting.

i had one as big as a couch, just strutting about 25 yards away, seemed like he was inching his way forward..i couldnt take it no more.. so i shot and hit him dead center...never could find him ..the next evening shot a jake to me i think i shot him in the same place.. the jake did a flip and died right there..

I have a vague recollection of him. He had some interesting posts which I don't recall right now, LOL. He was something like GrizzlyAdams1937 or some such. I kid. I remember his handle as kinda distinctive. If somebody does remember it, it'll probably ring a SMH bell for me.

That's a good question. I always wonder if something like that has changed if I buy the same brand arrows several years after I bought the originals, which doesn't happen often, but still ... You have the same concern with components sometimes, as well.
