im looking at getting the ez green bow press its under 400 bucks and looks easy, and it looks like it can press any bow out there with a few exceptions..
so let the yoke tuning begin...i was always kinda leary about screwing around with my bow but now that im in my 20's i have no more fear.. i was thinking about getting the bowmaster pocket press..but.
whats youre thoughts??

People seem to like them from what little I've heard. I get the impression that for the money they're as good as it gets. I wonder if you can't get a used press that's nearly "shop quality" for about the same dineros.

There are a couple of dealers on AT that sell the EZ green for almost cost. It's a little bit of an investment but they are worth it. Those presses can press [B]almos[/B]t anything. The new Hoyts require an adapter because the bow limbs are beyond parallel. The adapters are spendy. I believe I paid a couple hundred for the adapters.
SwampRat is right. You have to pay for your advice here. A joke of the day contribution would allow you to ask the panel up to two questions per day on the proper way to yoke tune.

You can always email Last Chance to check, but I'm thinking the only bow it won't press is a certain Bear (with beyond parallel limbs) and the new Defiant series of Hoyts. I have the Defiant and with the adapters it presses fine.
It might even press the Bear with those adapters, don't know. It's a great press because it so simple. Presses the limb tips which would mimic the load placed on the bow while drawing. Very safe.

I have a Bowmaster portable press that I use. It works fine for my needs.
But then again, I'm not getting into what you are talking about doing and I only use it occasionally. I just use mine for changing strings and simple adjustments; I'm not working on any cams or putting it through the rigor of a lot of use. But on the flip side (at least in my case, for my needs) the price sure was nice.

i was thinking about the bowmaster but i figured yoke tuning and greasing the cams might be a little quicker..the bowmaster is probally all i would need, but what the hell..

The bowmaster is a great little press for emergency purposes. I own one but I wouldn't want to use it unless I had to.
btw, the cams utilize sealed ball bearings. No reason to ever lube.

why i really want to buy the press is the string and cables. you figure a good string is a 100 bucks then they charged almost another 100 bucks to put it on..plus the yoke tuning ..and its just a good place to rest the bow and tie a loop.

I can't argue with what you are saying except, where are they charging 100 buck to put it on? Scheels?
Once you get the press, you will have satisfaction knowing you can tweak, tie on loops, change string, fix serving, realign peep etc. to your little heart's content.

See guys...I hate to play Mister Obvious here and point out that which is painfully obvious; but I'm going to.
This is part of the problem around HC and why there aren't more folks on here any more. A guy tries to throw a question out there seeking a little information to make an a decision based on some honest feed back from his fellow peers... But instead of getting a little decent feed back...he gets his balls busted. Then, if that isn't enough he gets the elitist responses and then shamed for trying to educate himself.
Now, I know CE is thick skinned...cripes he has to be to still be sticking around here as long as he has...but I mean come on. And still everyone wonders why no one new wants to be bothered screwing around on here!?
Just because I change the oil in my truck and [U]I prefer[/U] to work under a Rotary Symmetric SPO18 Lift (that's a commercial grade, column vehicle lift, for those of you that may not be familiar with it) ...does it mean that I should put down the guy that has a need to work under his rig occasionally and is looking at getting a set of drive on ramps from AutoZone and then rag him for asking questions about what his options are? I guess I could, but why do that?

All I have to says is It's Podunk, Number One, and Crookedeye Number Two. Always be suspicious when he asks an archery question. He had me going for two or three pages one time about arrow selection or rest tuning or some such...Got me in the mouth! LOL...
I think he suckered me another time about something else as well. I'm a slow learner.
He's sitting out there in his underground bunker in Omaha right now, laughing at us, stroking his neighbor's cat and dreaming of fitting frickin' laser beams on clearwater carp.

All you have to do is look at the last year or two posts by new members and see how many became regulars? How many posted again or came back? But hey, we don't have any ownership in that do we?
I still say that you guys that are using drive up ramps, or hauling your vehicle some where to have some one else work on them are losers. (Oh, and don't be offended by that, it's all in the name of fun! :-) )

[B]I have an EZ press green and a bowmaster portable. The bowmaster is ok for emergency stuff on most bows but it is a bit of a pain for set-up and maintenance type stuff. The EZ press seems like the greatest thing ever for pressing my Bowtechs (Destroyer and Old Glory) but there is a problem. It won't press some of the way over center limbs that are popular today. They do sell some adapters that are meant for newer Hoyt bows but they are expensive. Now, just looking at pictures of an Element, I bet the EZ press would work fine but the limbs do look slightly over center so It is probably not recommended. Looks to me like the Halon would be the same story. I managed to press my Brother's Hoyt Spyder but I used some special precautions that I cannot share......[/B]

[B]It was actually a pretty simple concept. The whole problem is that with the limb tips angling inwards, the bow tends to want to slip down out of the fingers of the press. I hooked up a small ratchet strap on the riser to hold it in place. Worked just fine. [/B]

I have an EZ press, the shop version. It was crazy expensive and the adapter fingers are also crazy expensive BUT it works like a charm and it'll press any bow out there. If you have the $$, they are the nicest press on the market.

You have some knee pad recommendations for antelope hunting? I've got some good ones that I use in the blind as well, but they don't make them anymore, naturally. If I wanted to buy a pair of pants with pockets to go with some pads I know the combo I'd get, but I wondered what's the best off-the-shelf pad these days.
