Yes, it's true. It still has to run the gauntlet of the antis, the ignorant both innocent and willful, and the misguided---And some, I assume, are good people---but it is now at least a possibility, along with some not insignificant easing of some Sunday restrictions on private land.
Of course, some good proposals still went down in flames, and more could be made, so the work is not finished.

If anyone knows of inaccuracies with that map, please let me know. Most maps I've seen recently are obviously outdated.
Looks like Maine and Mass. are the two die-hard hold-outs of the old blue law states with regards to hunting. The restrictions in Virginia and SC are simply the public land prohibition, as far as I know, although Virginia might also have a restriction around places of worship even on private land.

I'd be very interested in compiling a list of states, especially in the group above, which allow Sunday hunting on public land at this point.

OK just to clarify, PA allows almost NO Sunday hunting. I think the only thing we can hunt is coyotes in the early morning and crows during the day. I can't think of anything else we're allowed to hunt on Sunday but I will have to read the digest. They are constantly making subtle changes so the average Joe remains dazed and confused.

When it comes to hunting in TX, Sunday is just another day like any other. That fits nicely with the fact that there are no restrictions on use of suppressors, magazine capacities, etc. Oh, and the fact that we can hunt hogs using night vision equipment and from helicopters if we're willing to shell out the coin required to do so.
Yippie-ki-yay, mo....well...you know.

That fits nicely with the fact that there are no restrictions on use of suppressors, magazine capacities, etc. Oh, and the fact that we can hunt hogs using night vision equipment and from helicopters if we're willing to shell out the coin required to do so.

I'd better amend my statement about SC above, which was poorly worded and also missed the point of the map key. Although I can't think of any SC Sunday restrictions on private land that affect me either as a bow or gun hunter, I thought about deer dogging on Sundays, which I've never seen done. I thought it might be illegal and a contradiction of my previous statement, so I went looking.
I didn't see any such prohibition. I could have missed it because SC's book isn't the best-laid-out, but I don't think so. SC is a state where if it's not spelled out to be illegal or prohibited by regulation, you can do it. Now, for all practical purposes dogs don't run on Sundays because they're worn out from Saturday, and because a lot of the guys the huntmaster needs are in church or at least they think *you* should be, LOL. Traditionally, dogs run on Saturdays and Wednesdays, but I was surprised to see that they "might could" run on Sundays, unless I missed something. I'd be shocked if more than a handful of people have even THOUGHT about deer dogging in SC on a Sunday, though. LOL
So I'll have to think harder about what restrictions SC has on Sundays on private land that are really "Sunday-related" but right now I'm not coming up with anything. I will take my lashes with a wet noodle if I'm goofing up something big and obvious here.

Not to get off topic (something you guys never do here :re:) but an example of confusion. In my management zone does have been legal starting the opening day of rifle season for many, many years. This year, my zone will be the same as the rest of the state and for the first time will be buck only for the first week, with does being legal starting on the first Sat.
With the exception of a couple other zones that will be doe and buck starting the first day, except the areas that are shotgun only, they will be ending later than most of the rest of the state. Unless of course you're in a DMAP area than all the rules change a bit. And then there's the early doe season which is muzzleloader only except for the 3 days that juniors and seniors can use a rifle but don't forget to check to see if you're in the CWD areas, then you can't transport your deer brain out of that area.

Can't wait to see how many guys I see with a doe back at their truck this year on opening day.

I used to like to flip through the regs books because the changes would usually jump out at you: they were highlighted or bolded. Nowadays it's harder to put your hands on a paper copy, and you're left scrolling through a website or PDF that's just begging to let you miss something.
And this will be fun: SC just made a huge change in their tagging system and limits, and the rules are different for residents and non-residents. (Wanna guess how many NRs will get instructed on what the *resident* rules are by residents who don't know they're not universal? LOL)
I have to do the reverse tonight. I have a good friend--a resident--who has a reading impediment and often gets things confused or mis-communicates in verbal communication when there are too many small details involved. And I am sometimes not the best explainer in the world. Based on a conversation we had last night, my job this evening is to go over the new rules with him with the book in front of me, and I'm hoping it won't be too much like the blind leading the blind LOL.

That's interesting. On TX public land, the only times that does can be legally taken with a firearm (non-muzzle-loaders) are the opening weekend of the "General Season" and Thanksgiving through the following Sunday. The rest of the time it's buck only, and even that subject to a minimum 13" inside main beam spread or spike (at least one unforked antler) buck restriction. That's one of the reasons that my son and I adopted a tradition of hunting Thanksgiving morning. We can take a doe (if we're lucky) and the woods aren't crowded like they are on just about any weekend...especially the opener (::shudder::). In fact we usually have whatever area we pick to ourselves.

Thanksgiving Day (all day) is one of my favorite days to hunt for that very reason. Plus, it's usually decent timing rut-wise where I usually hunt, except in eastern coastal plain NC. Everybody has given up inviting me for Turkey Day because I only give up the woods once every seven or eight years or so, LOL.
You want to see a goofy set of rules, look at the Western Deer Season in NC. They mostly don't have the high deer populations of the rest of the state, with some exceptions. There are 20 counties covered (out of 100) and the gun seasons vary by No Either-Sex. Introductory Either-Sex, Conservative Either-Sex, Moderate Either-Sex, and Maximum Either-Sex, with a couple of extra twists for some individual game lands.
No wonder they're down here all the time with their damn tomato-based BBQ, shootin' up the place! LOL
