Seems to me I read somewhere around here in the past that you wanted to do some rabbit hunting...

Come on up here and we'll put you on some big one's to fill your soup pot. About a dozen of these and you'll be able to eat for a month. :-)

Here's one my son sniped at 95 yds with this .22 one evening.

Whoa! Nice shot!

Yeah, I mentioned at least once the idea of getting a rabbit hunt together in SC after the deer season. Got no takers, LOL. The idea's still percolating in my head, though.

I'll put your invite in the hopper!

Did he have big pointy teeth and a mean streak a mile wide?

Nice shot, Poot. I imagine that made for a couple of rib-sticking pot pies.

I think I told the story of the hypersensitive housemate I had a long time ago. There was some drama when I used one of his pots to cook a rabbit I got while hunting squirrels who knew better than to be out in high wind.

Whoa. I'm sure I've seen deer killed smaller than that. Nice shot.

Like any thing else you can cook and eat; there's ways to make a jack rabbit more appealing and ways to make a feller never want to eat it again! My personal experience: I've roasted them over an open fire...not good, unless you're just really, really hungry (more like starving!) A good option is to incorporate the meat into your favorite Jambalaya recipe which is what we do with most of the rabbit we eat.

I had so many rabbits growing up, I swore I'd never eat it when I was on my own. I'd just mix it with beef in the crock pot, once cooked separate the beef from the rabbit, then take the rabbit portion and toss in the trash can and eat the beef.

LOL.. A stew or rice dish of some type is good for dumping almost anything I screw up by another cooking method (over-salted, too tough, or whatever).

Ordinarily, I like rabbit, but I don't get it a lot.

I've never had jackrabbit before, but I have had other things most people turn up their nose at. Most of the time I didn't pick the best cooking method the first time around. Now you see these recipes for oven raccoon roasts and such, and you go, "Yeah, right. It turned out so well the last time." A crockpot is your friend, LOL.

I used to do a bunch of stuff in a pressure cooker, but I'm very rusty at this point. That's good for tougher animals if you don't have all day.

This worked pretty well...

That's not bunny.

But +4 anyway. :-)

DParker, thanks for sharing your post about the rabbit on the rotisserie. That looks like a great way to cook one up.

When I was a kid, my old man used to love putting a whole fryer on the rotisserie over some Kings-ford and cooking it most of the afternoon. I remember the sound of that old motor grinding on and the pop of him cracking open another ice cold can of Bud like it was yesterday!

I just got a new grill for Father's Day this year and I've been thinking about ordering a rotisserie for it for a while now, this just gave me the perfect excuse to make that order. On another but related note; I make a mean Gyro meat from a venison and pork mix that everyone seems to really like, but the original recipe calls for cooking the loaf of meat on a rotisserie. Since I don't have one now, I just grill the loaf indirectly on the grill, and it comes out good....but I'd really like to try it on the rotisserie to see if it improves the final product. So there's support to get that rotisserie ordered up!

I'm always happy to help other people spend their money.

Mmmm, gyros...:-)

I've heard the Turkish version-- "doner" or "doner kabab" (mit Umlaut uber das "O")-- is the most popular fast food in Germany these days. True story. Auf Wiedersehen bratwurst und currywurst.

And this may or may not be true: In Africa they have a version they serve with tsetse sauce. :-):wink:p

WTF are you talking about???? You lost me....:-)

So I take it you're not a gyro fan?
16.) Swamp Fox - 07/27/2017
No, I love gyros.

The Africa thing was a play on tzatziki sauce...Thanks for making me explain the joke because THAT ALWAYS makes it funnier...LOL
