I was wondering what the latest and greatest was for mounting cameras on stakes and swivels and adjustable whatnots a little while ago (clue me in if you have some ideas) and I came across this, which I think is fairly new.

There are two versions. One is a one-screw model and the other is a two-screw with a beefier strap. They're selling for roughly $30 and $50 respectively. The screws require a special tool to remove, and the band is high tensile steel. It's gotten good reviews in the few places that have written about it.

Thought somebody might be able to use the info.

BTW, it took a couple of minutes for this post to show up on the board, and even hitting Refresh several times didn't allow it to appear. I've mentioned this possible bug in the update/refresh area before.

Alex?

I actually thought I'd deleted the post somehow and was about to retype when I though I'd go in under "Today's Posts" as a last gasp.

Fortunately--or unfortunately depending on your perspective--my post was there. Hope everyone enjoys it...LOL

The problem with dirt bags is that they don't want to get caught doing what they are doing. I believe most trail camera thefts come after the trespasser realizes he is caught on land he shouldn't be on and sees the camera and realizes he has to take it so as to not be caught trespassing. So, locking the camera will undoubtedly cause the camera itself to be destroyed
Just my take on the issue

I think there's a lot of truth to that. Taking the SD card and leaving the camera removes evidence, but leaves other evidence that someone was there. Unless you're me, and can easily talk yourself into the idea that you forgot to load the card in the first place, LOL.

I've caught three people on camera that I can think of. One was a coon hunter who had permission. The second was a buddy who's notorious for getting turned around (and this was irrefutable proof, since I had pointed him to a completely different stand, LOL).

The third guy was a stranger who left the camera alone but did the whole "nose in the lens" routine like you get from does and raccoons, LOL. The only thing I could think of was that he was trying to figure out how to open the camera up to take the card, and couldn't ever figure it out. Either that or he'd never seen a trail cam before. :cf:

I'm sure Jon's scenario happens a lot, but they steal cameras on public land too.

The product seems decent, would deter most thieves. I prefer my way better, they can't steal what they don't see, and it's free. Keeping them up 9 or 10 ft makes a world of difference. I've had several hunters/hikers go by and never even look up at them. No one is looking up in trees for today's small trail cams.

Place them right with no strap around the tree and they're almost invisible.

Luv2,, what's the name of the mount system you use again?

At one point I was on ebay a lot looking for cameras. I never noticed more than a few "damaged" cameras for sale, and those were always listed as being "for parts." I never noticed that any of them had body damage.

I don't recall seeing tons of options for used cameras, period. If people are selling a lot of stolen cameras they must be doing it somewhere other than on ebay. Craigslist? Pawnshop? Your other brother Darrell? I don't know.

I can't imagine you can get a lot of money out of anyone for a used piece of gear which is notorious for crapping out in the first place. I have a feeling guys who steal cameras keep most of them for their own use.

Works like a charm. Never had one stolen although I did have one shot to pieces.

I'm still pissed off that one of my cameras was stolen last year. I had it on my property, facing my food plot but it could be seen from the neighbor's property if you were sitting in the stand the 15yr old kid set......same kid I chased off the property about a month earlier when he was giggin for frogs and lied to me about going on my property. I tried to tell him that I had no problem with him giggin for frogs on my property if he would just ask but instead he ran from me and then later, stole a camera.
I doubt he'll be able to use the same stand this year, sometimes those stands just don't last very long..........
9.) Swamp Fox - 06/29/2017
It sucks when you arrive at your stand that's in a good place right on your neighbor's property line, and the seat's missing, too...LOL

At least you know you're not in the woods with thieves. Everybody hates a thief.

I'm going to share it with you Chris, but I know you're not going to do anything with it. You never do. You make us answer you with all this info, links, and helpful tips. And then you do nothing with it. Some things never change.:-)

But for funsies, here it is.

I kinda remembered that had a ball mount and a stand-off which is what I liked about it.

I'd ask some more questions but now I'm skeered...LOL
