We were out and about this past weekend in the Bear Paws area. Almost wished we'd brought the wood stove to use in the tent...one morning it was 37 deg and the next it was 40.
Saw a good number of mule deer and a few whitetails, but no elk. I typically don't hunt in this area though, so we weren't focused to hard on finding critters.

That's some damned pretty country. But if I didn't know it was a lighting issue I'd swear those hills in the background were mounds of sulfur.

Yes, you're right...for now (anyway) I just stand back and bark out the orders. I did help them pull the tent itself over the frame...but that was it.
I have done it by myself several times, and I'm thankful it's not one of those huge 16+ footers. I was lucky those times by myself that it was not windy while putting it up....wind always adds an extra expletive factor.
The worst time I (we) had putting that tent up was on a mule deer hunt in Wyoming in 2007. Me and a friend from Alaska got to our camp spot on a nice high butte area just east of the Bighorns as a front blew in off the divide. NOAA reported gusts of 45 MPH in the area, rain and wet snow were mixed up in it and we had one hell of a time getting it up and all buttoned down. Just standing 15 feet apart we had to yell at the top of our lungs just to hear each other. It was great fun. LOL. But I'll tell ya, even my friend that lives in the Fairbanks area said that once we had that tent up and the heater going in there...he never felt so good!
I know 45 mph doesn't sound like much to you guys from hurricane and tornado alley...but let me tell ya, when you are trying to hold on 80 or so lbs of flapping canvas...it ain't no small feat.

BTW - I forgot to mention this, but for anyone (besides Swampy) that might be interested:
Regarding putting up a wall tent by yourself - the trick is (and we do this all the time, whether there is help or not as it makes it so much easier, especially when using a frame rather than just a wood ridge pole) is to put together all the frame, MINUS the legs on one side. Then you pull the tent over the frame with it catywampus (tilted down on one side), align the canvas up on all the corners and ridge, then with the legs handy, just lift it up an insert the legs as you work your way down the side of the tent. Doing it that way makes it so much easier than trying to pull then weight of all that canvas over the frame while it is up high, over your head.

I'm gonna remember you said that next time I need to put something up. I am trying to digest those moves, so don't be surprised if you get a phone call some time once I forget, LOL.
I put up an 18x20 industrial "awning" (heavy synthetic tarp with aluminum frame)---let's call it a shelter--at my camp and it's been fantastic for six or seven years ( I wanna say), but I don't remember how we got it up. I had one helper who was good with diagrams (I am not) but not with written instructions. I'm usually pretty poor with diagrams unless they're made for dummies, but good with written instructions. Between the two of us we got r done. But when it comes time to replace (soon, if not past due) I'm not sure how we replicate the miracle. LOL
A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
BTW, even though I am in hurricane country, or at least on the edge (with the occasional tornado thrown in for variety) you will get no guff from me about 45-mile-an-hour winds while working with canvas. Let me tell you how inconvenient 30 mph with no canvas can be...LOL

Anyway, I thought that it was the most hysterical thing I'd ever seen and managed to figure out how to make it my computer background. I had it up for years. But alas, that 'puter finally crashed and I lost a lot of stuff a while back. I'd buy somebody a beer if they still had it in their archives for some weird reason...LOL
That's close if not exactly the JA photo used, but I couldn't find what I remember as the Spy. It was the black Spy in costume (not a cartoon, as I recall) and I think he had a briefcase in his hand. The images were well matched in size and just positioned very well.
Anyway, whoever put it together was brilliant, LOL.
