1.) Wild Bob - 04/28/2017
Looks like the old Friday music thread died, dried up and blew away... what's wrong with you guys, does no one give a damn any more??
So I'll resuscitate a new one. 2.) DParker - 04/28/2017
You're right, Wild Bob. We have shamed our ancestors. Here's my attempt at atonement (I'm just not in the mood for seppuku today...at least, not my own):

Oh, I see how it is...:p The people who aren't usually around get to complain that nothing's going on here...And the people who ARE usually around get the stink eye for chatting to take up the slack...:tap:
LOL--- Just pokin' you, WB. Thanks for stopping by. Try to make it a habit. 6.) Wild Bob - 04/28/2017
"Oh, I see how it is... The people who aren't usually around get to complain that nothing's going on here...And the people who are usually around get the stink eye for chatting to take up the slack...
LOL---" That's the way of the world these days isn't it???? :dig: 7.) Swamp Fox - 04/28/2017
Seems like it.
8.) DParker - 04/28/2017
I'll go with that theme....
9.) Swamp Fox - 04/28/2017
I see your hearts afire, and raise you the classic boy-meets-girl/boy-loves-girl/boy-loses-girl/that's life theme song, written by Steve Earle but performed by Irish musicians in Ireland, where they're nuts for it, thus connecting Wild Bob, the Irishman Van Morrison and EW&F across the sea with the whole way of the world thing where we began.
(Always wanted to be a DJ doing themes...LOL) 10.) DParker - 04/28/2017
If that's not a drinkin' song then I don't know what is. 'Course, pretty much everything's a drinkin' song in Ireland, isn't it?
11.) Swamp Fox - 04/28/2017
They're a merry bunch, sure.
LOL 12.) Swamp Fox - 04/28/2017
Speaking of drinking songs, or songs of drink, let me put this link to Bow-fishhunter's thread here, since it had potential and it would be a shame to lose it in the musty archives.

Good point. So...more Ukrainians...
Honestly, I'd pay to see these guys. 14.) Swamp Fox - 04/29/2017
They really are good.
I'm not really up on horns and brass too well, but this seems to have some value...LOL...Who knew you could do this song with a brass band? :-) (This might not be their best video, but hey, Marvin Gaye...) 15.) DParker - 05/11/2017
Some of you might recall from a past incarnation of this topic me listing a few songs that everything inside me tells me I should hate, but for some unfathomable reason...I end up liking. Well, I was listening to the radio on my way home from work last night and discovered another entry for that list. I'd never even heard of this group before (yeah, I'm old), let alone this song (which was released back in 1990). And in spite of the fact that the lyrics are clumsy and the melody is ridiculously simplistic and repetitive, something about it pulled me in and made me want to hear it again. So much so that I bought it from the Amazon music store as soon as I got home. Maybe the fact that the bassist/lead singer kinda', sorta' has a Grace Slick thing going when she hits the higher register did it. Oh well. I learned long ago not to over-analyze aesthetic experiences, and instead just enjoy them. So....
ETA: I seem to have missed Swampy's entry above from last week. That's a good find, and I'm going to forward it to my son, who is sure to appreciate it. 16.) Swamp Fox - 05/11/2017
That song was on the radio a lot around here. Because of the crowd I was in at the time, I'm sure I would recognize some other songs of theirs, though I don't remember any from the radio and would have trouble with titles. But Concrete Blonde immediately rang a bell.
Chicks dug them...LOL 17.) DParker - 05/11/2017
Chicks dug them...LOL
So you're saying I should break out a bottle of vodka the next time I listen to it? 18.) Swamp Fox - 05/11/2017
That would be about right...LOL
If you were into Heart, Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, Blondie---and Grace Slick (good call)---you liked Concrete Blonde. Not that there's anything wrong with that...LOL (Seriously...I'm not trashing it. It's got a good beat, and you can dance to it.) 19.) Swamp Fox - 05/11/2017
Here are two more I remember now. I don't remember radio airplay, but people had them on.
20.) DParker - 05/11/2017
I like the first one. That second one is kind of like a cross between Blondie, Marilyn Manson and Ozzie Osbourne. I'm going to have to give it another listen or two before rendering a verdict.
21.) Swamp Fox - 05/11/2017
I put those two up to show two different styles they had. I'm not sure that's the best version of Bloodletting, either. The studio or video version might be better ones to look for, but I always like to post live performances if they're not total crap.

Ha! Good catch. I'd forgotten about that song.
It always reminded me of this one: BTW---I wore that album out (Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy). Seeing the cover art again after all these years gives me goosebumps. I remember exactly when and where I got it, and who was there. July 1975. 44.) DParker - 06/23/2017
We're so old. I didn't have Captain Fantastic, but I did get both Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Caribou when they came out in '73 & '74, respectively. Now, in retrospect, I'm not really sure why...other than the fact that I was 12/13 years old at the time...and it was the '70s.
45.) Swamp Fox - 06/23/2017
LOL...I didn't have Caribou, but I did have GBYBR. I'm not 100% sure, but I think I got GBYBR after Captain Fantastic. Elton John was a little bit of joke in my circle, but most of us were smart enough to know he was making good music.---LOL
My first album in my collection was Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs, so I guess you could say I like almost all kinds of music...:-) 46.) DParker - 06/23/2017
My first album in my collection was Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs
"We're so old."
- Hahahhaha! I wasn't going to point that out...but since you did, I have to voice a chuckle over it. :-) 49.) Swamp Fox - 06/23/2017
:-)....Check out the Star Wars reference at 1:48...:p
This has always been one of my favorite songs, but I swear I can't hear it anymore without thinking of the concert scene from That 70's Show... LOL Bonus track: 50.) Swamp Fox - 06/23/2017

Even though they had their share of success and were even inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame last year, I've always thought that Cheap Trick was still somewhat underrated.
I even forgave them for covering some classic Fats Domino because they did such a good job with it.... The problem is that my favorite of theirs...Surrender...was forever ruined for me by this segment from the Universal Studios Orlando commercial that aired in 2003-sh. Now I can't hear it anymore without thinking, "Poor Captain America": 52.) DParker - 06/23/2017

Good call. I still have their rendition of I'm Henry VIII, I Am stuck in my melon after 51 years. 53.) Swamp Fox - 06/23/2017
I only came to that conclusion late in life. Back in the day I wasn't that impressed, probably mostly just because I was listening to so much other stuff, and not really in that genre. I did get a full dose of Cheap Trick summers, though. I ran a Ferris wheel and had a big FAST horse ride (like a carousel) next to me. They had a big sound system and Cheap Trick was a favorite. Spent many an hour catching rays or chatting up chicks who wanted to "stop at the top" while listening to I Want You To Want Me and Surrender blasting from next door...LOL...Might have put me off them a bit, actually. :-) I don't think I was there past 1978 or 9, so my Cheap Trick connection dried up and I had to pick them up again on my own much later in my musical journey...LOL You can thank me later: 54.) Ima play this even though I went looking for one of his other songs...Seems about right at this point.
