1.) Swamp Fox - 03/20/2017
I got a notice today which looked like it was from DTV and offered a link to view a "new user agreement effective 3/20." (Today is 3/20).

DTV, spawn of Satan AT&T, has become my new arch-enemy since the buy-out ruined a perfectly good company, so naturally I clicked to see how they were going to eff things up even further now. I noticed a new $10 fee to change to a lower-priced package buried in a chart in the back of an attached PDF.

DTV has always let you change plans at will, easily and at no charge. It's one of the small things they still had going for them after AT&T got involved. Predictably, my blood pressure spiked, since I am coincidentally looking at rearranging plans right now, and...drum roll please...today is the 20th. I went on line to the DTV site: no disclosure of the fee, even though I went so far as to click all the buttons necessary to change my plan without actually finalizing it.

So I called "Customer Service." They'd never heard of such a fee. They DID know about a rate hike for service calls, which I also noticed in the PDF. So now the question was: is CS just in the dark, or incompetent, or did I get a phishing email?

My money is on a phishing email, but I have to say I've gotten so much bad information from DTV CS/TS over the years that i wouldn't rule out the idea that the people who are supposed to know this stuff know nothing. It was funny when it was Sgt. Schultz, but it's not so funny when it's people who are sucking money out of your wallet and who have no competent supervisors or complaint department.

So: I suggest if you got a DTV email that you do not open it, and if you've done it already, change your Yahoo password.

And don't get me started on Yahoo...I've probably had to change my password with them four times in the last eight months.

I feel your pain when it comes to good companies being ruined by takeovers. Not only have I been a DirecTV customer for over 20 years (and a satisfied one for all but the last year, for the same reason as you), but I was also extremely happy with my 22 years of Verizon-supplied phone (land-line) + internet service, only to have that ruined by them selling that business to Frontier Communications (an outfit that has screwed up my billing twice now in just a few short months since the takeover).

So now, after 2 decades of satellite TV contentment (with the exception of that Genie false advertising...she never did show up at my house) I'm looking into ripping the dish off my roof and going with a different provider. The easiest AND cheapest way to go would be to add TV service to my existing phone+internet bundle via Frontier, even as much as I dislike them, as I could use my existing FiOS equipment (which is excellent) and still get a good discount on all 3 services combined. The alternative is to switch everything over to Spectrum (aka, Time Warner). As bad as their reputation has been in the past, it sounds like they may have gotten their act together lately. But then that would mean gambling on degradation of my more important phone and internet services, as well as having to have all of my FiOS stuff ripped out and replaced by cable.

Why can't anyone ever leave well enough alone?
3.) Swamp Fox - 03/20/2017
AT&T royally screwed up my 800 service more than 10 years ago and cost me a lot of time, stress and money, so I've known they were trouble for a long time.

Last time I knew anything about this, DTV wasn't removing dishes from disconnected accounts. I don't know if most people take them out by themselves. All I know is that a bunch of them near me are planted where they've always been, unused.

My cell phones are with Verizon, and except for the fact that their pricing is outrageous and I can't find anyone who's better, at least they haven't screwed anything up for me yet. CS has also been pretty good, but as I say, all I have with them is cell phones.

Spectrum seems to be an improvement over TWC. For a couple of dollars more per month, I got a ridiculous exponential increase in my internet speed (which shows you just how bad TWC was, without even getting into their horrid CS) and their CS (Spectrum's) gets a B. They would get an A except that they dropped the ball on some follow up, and also sent me equipment they should have known I didn't need, that we discussed that I didn't need, and that they promised they wouldn't send me. I got them to pay for the return, but I had to spend some time fixing their own stupid mistake, including obtaining a return label that they told me was included in follow-up, when it was not. They actually FedEx'd me an empty cardboard box for return (which the return authorization and pre-paid return label were supposed to be in) when I had the perfectly good original shipping box. If they continue to do moronic shit like that, I predict Chapter 11 bankruptcy within 5 years.

So far I'm pretty happy with the local KFC, but I'm keeping an eye on the Bojangles, and the Hardees continues to be the worst in the state.

If I can think of anything else, I'll add later. :wink

Not a problem. Mine is mounted just above my BBQ grill, on the roof of my attached garage (the dish is on the roof, not my grill...because that would be really dumb), so that won't be a problem to take down myself.

KFC has always been one of those its-crap-thats-killing-me-but-I-love-it-anyway guilty pleasures for me, but lately I've been rescued by the local addition of both a Raising Cane's and an El Pollo Loco to my little 'burb as alternatives when I feel the need to get my fast food chicken fix.

From the wrong thread:
Where are you on KFC vs. Popeye's?
I know Popeye's is popular, but I just can't get myself to like them. I mean, for starters...how does it make sense that I can get creamed spinach as a side with my chicken at Boston Market, but not at a joint called "Popeye's"?

Good point. That's almost a marketing faux pas. Popeye's should be serving a little spinach with olive oil drizzled over the top.
7.) bluecat - 03/21/2017

By the way, was she a virgin?
8.) Swamp Fox - 03/21/2017
We don't have many Popeye's here for some reason, and by that I mean almost none. The few times I've eaten there they were pretty bad. I remember the chicken not being very good and something was especially bad. The fries, maybe.

I had some good friends from New Orleans (where Popeye's was founded) who used to talk about it as if it was good stuff, but that was a long time before I got to try it. (We all liked to drink Dixie beer, too, which turns out to be not as good as you thought it was when you were a teenager, either, so I guess it just goes to show you...)

By the way, if you want to avoid eating at Popeye's, remember that there is a thing called the Bojangles Line, above which you will not be able to find a Bojangles anywhere, even near I-95. I've missed it and paid the price. I know: rookie mistake.

The line is somewhere around Fredricksburg, Va. for those keeping track, so don't say I didn't warn you.

What this place needs is a Jack-in-the-Box...

Wake some people up, maybe...LOL

Those are hilarious. A couple of years ago, we stopped at a Jack in the Box in San Antonio. Wow, it was filthy and disgusting. I can never eat there again.
13.) Swamp Fox - 03/21/2017
San Antonio, or Jack in the Box?

Wish there were more commercials like that. I'm sure there would be some specialty group that would be offended.

If only Jack had been at the top of the ticket this past November.

Address your complaints to DP...He's the one who referenced this thread when I was ranting on another one....So I couldn't not revive this. LOL

No problem. I'm all set up and ready to handle things.
