1.) Jon - 10/26/2016
Last year we all talked about making mock scrapes and seeing what type reaction we'd get, I don't remember seeing anyone follow up.
I was checking my cameras on Monday after being away for a week for work and saw a decent 2.5yr old hitting a licking branch and making a scrape. I also found a fresh scrape right where my back yard merges with the woods so I decided to put a camera on it and see what happens.
I peed in the scrape Monday night, Tuesday after work I pulled the card and 4 different bucks visited and 8 different does. None of the bucks freshened the scrape but they all put their noses in it and used the licking branch. All the does smelled the scrape and none of the deer were spooked, they all stayed around for some time before just walking off.
I'm leaving the camera there for a while to see if the bigger one comes in and freshens up the scrape or if it remains the way it is.
I'm guessing that none of the 4 bucks who visited made the scrape initially and that's why they didn't freshen it up, maybe I'm over-thinking it?

I'll follow up

I think the obvious question that needs to be asked here is, "What kind of beer were you drinking?"
3.) Jon - 10/26/2016
Sam Octoberfest, should I change to whiskey?
Sam Octoberfest, should I change to whiskey?
Absolutely not. If processed Sam Adams is attracting deer, then that's what you should stick with. Besides, my beloved Blanton's is already expensive and scarce enough as it is without adding even more demand to the equation.

I just wanted to know because, although my 5am 20 oz coffee is producing in terms of quantity, it just isn't doing the job as an attractant after my 7am on-stand leak. 'Course, guzzling beer on the way to the WMA at that hour comes with its own set of issues....
5.) Jon - 10/26/2016
Good call BUT I generally cease all beer consumption at approximately 2200hrs so, the proper dilution percentage would be out of whack should you drink said beer that close to the hunt.....

See, this is why I ask these questions....for science, and stuff.

zactly

I SEE NO REASON WHAT-SO-EVER, NOT TO INCLUDE A SHOT OR 12 OVER A PERIOD OF TIME. JUST BE SURE IT'S WILD TURKEY AND DRINK SEMI SORTA RESPONSIBLE

I think we might have talked about it the year before as well, but I could be wrong. I thought I put a thread up about it earlier this year, but since it was just you, me and Luv2 that showed any interest, it fizzled.. Maybe we should just give up posting hunting topics until November, LOL.

Really, though, I blame Luv2. He got skwirly when I asked him to tell me what scrape magic he was going to perform so we could do something different--or rip off his idea, depending---for science. Said he was gonna do his own thing no matter what anybody else thought (I think his exact words were, "Screw you guys; I'm going home") and was seriously considering thinking of voting for Hillary, so he might have to leave the site permanently anyway...

again I'd like to know what to use in it that would get the big ones to show up. I smacked a nice one two years ago over a mock scrape I made with the wind pro dominant buck ... I have a scrape that gets made in the same spot every year so I am wondering if this would be made by an old doe? or that because it's so saturated for being made the last 5 years they can't help themselves but to use it... what ya think?
11.) luv2bowhunt - 10/28/2016
I have mock scrapes again this year. Will put cameras on a few starting tomorrow. I had pics last year but I was the only one who 'participated' in Swampy's reindeer games. This year I'm trying to do a mock scrape line, to see if that stirs even more interest than what I got last year.

Jon you know the deal on here. 95% of these guys are big cloud, big thunder, little rain.
12.) Jon - 10/31/2016
I've been watching the scrape with a camera and peeing in it every night or there abouts. Had a nice wide 7pt come in the other night and freshen up the scrape and pee in it, I think he is probably the original "scraper" since he's the only buck who freshened it up. Does are quite interested in it as well, they always stop and smell all around the scrape, never spook either.

<--- Asparagus.
15.) Jon - 11/01/2016
I imagine Asparagus might have a different effect?
16.) bluecat - 11/01/2016
With asparagus, the scrape will fluoresce and act like a beacon...
17.) DParker - 11/01/2016
I imagine Asparagus might have a different effect?
It certainly does with me. Though it depends on your DNA AND the deer's. Apparently I have both genes...or whatever the actual combination of traits turns out to be...

Looks like approximately 1 year ago we discussed this same topic........I walked through my woods last night checking cameras and found 2 fresh scrapes on a trail. I put my cellular camera on it and peed in the scrape. A few hours later, a doe came in and checked it. She was smelling the licking branch. Her and another doe came in 2 more times throughout the night and checked it but no buck yet. I'll keep the camera on that spot for a few weeks and see what's checking it.

19.) DParker - 11/03/2017
Did you forget to eat your asparagus?
20.) Swamp Fox - 11/03/2017
Who's that guy talking about Brussel sprouts last Haloween??

He seems like fun. Let's see if we can scrape him up.

21.) Jon - 11/06/2017
Had a decent buck walk right on by, he didn't check the scrape at all. Several does, a small buck and a possum came in and checked it

Well, it looks like you....pissed him off.
