I gut deer with one particular knife and evidently when I'm done, I put it back in the leather sheath and throw it back in my pack. I just used it to gut that deer the other day and it still had blood and fat on it from last year!!!!:tu:

But on those rare occasions when I [I]do[/I] get to use my knife in the field, I try to give it a good wipe-down in whatever dried grass happens to be at hand (there almost always is some) just so what was on it doesn't congeal in the sheath and stink to high heaven.

I once left some deer legs in the trunk of a Delta 88 (The Blue Bomb) for a year, but I'm generally pretty fussy about cleaning non-automotive gear*...

Those toothbrushes that they hand out for your dental cleanings go in a drawer and then get used to clean arrows, broadheads and knives using dish soap. After I process the deer (again, if) I go through my equipment and return to working order.

That was a hell of a car, but mostly I used all the room for coolers and gear. Added fabric seat covers, a hat rack and a dashboard spittoon. Smooth.

Could have lived in the thing...

Bluecat, take away the deer legs, clean up the car, install shag carpet and fuzzy dice and guess what.......Swampy still wasn't getting any action in that car :wave:

But then after that car went up on blocks, I hit a long dry spell....LOL

I border on OCD ... alright ... I'm pretty sure I *am* OCD.

I do a meticulous reset, resharpen and repack after every hunt. I use the hydration pack to wash the knife and Kagen saw.

I do the same thing with the lawn mower by power washing after every use.

Same thing with tools that get cleaned after every job and then nested back into their designated location.

Sad but true.

No, you just take some pride in ownership and your equipment will continue to last.

I completely agree with taking pride in ownership making your equipment last a long time, not sure why I just throw my knife in my pack........ maybe I'm just a bad person
