Nice video, thanks.

Yeah, my perception of him changed a bit from a bully.

That's because you've never screwed up a plate of risotto in his presence. Do that and he'll gut you like a fish.

So who was the maker of that pistol? Was that an FN? Had a hammer and wasn't a Sig or a Beretta. Had a long extractor. Not too familiar with an HK .

I think you got it. Thanks.

Didn't realize our military was using HKs. I read an article that they were possibly transitioning to Glock 17's.

They might have been more successful had they not talked so much but I understand they are running a TV show so you have to constantly babble.

I wonder what he would have done with Swampy's roux? That would have been some entertaining television.
11.) Swamp Fox - 06/28/2016
:-)

As long as he didn't try to give me a rose, I think I'd be okay after a good cry in the shower.

I blame my oven...It's either that or my measurements are off. Either way, I've never ruined the gumbo. :wink
12.) Swamp Fox - 06/28/2016
That video made me hungry.

Don't you think the HK was a personal weapon? ("I gotcher weapon of war rahcheer...")

Are there any indications HK is toward the top of the heap of what's being looked at for much U.S. military use?

And why would you open the trap before you shoot the hog? Jumping up on the top to get a close shot after you release the hog seems a little more trouble than it's worth, LOL. Or did I misunderstand what the major said they were going to do?
13.) bluecat - 06/28/2016
I deduced that it wasn't Gordon's gun. He was unskilled using it so I'm thinking the officer let him borrow one of his or checked it out from the armory.

I was a little confused by the cage thing too. The only thing I could think of is that if things went south (for whatever reason) get up on the cage. But letting the hog out to shoot it is asking for problems.

That meat sure looked tasty.
14.) bluecat - 06/28/2016
The more I read about HK's the more I hear praise toward them. Now whether the military can afford $1,000 guns I don't know. The seals were using Sigs until recently and they are basically the same price.

Crying game?
16.) bluecat - 06/28/2016
The other goofy thing is practicing at 20 yards? Should have been practicing at around 5 for the pistol.

Oh, man...what'd you bring that up for? To this day, remembering that movie makes me want to curl up in a fetal-position ball in the corner.
18.) Swamp Fox - 06/28/2016
Also would like to know the story on recovering the bullet, LOL. My guess is one shot in the brain is not how things went (though maybe they went digging around), but that probably means they didn't let the hog out of the trap. But THAT probably means they got blood and scent in the trap, which probably means they didn't catch anything else in it for a while.

I might have more questions later...:wink

I was going to say this earlier, but now I feel greater pressure: I haven't seen the movie (but it's high on my list)---So NO SPOILERS!:tap:

My first impression was that hog was hauled there as a "if we don't shoot anything blundering through the woods while talking" insurance policy. Right on the road, truck with cooler and ice a few yards out of camera shot.

All I remember about that movie was that I made a bad viewing choice that day and I was gonna have to live with it the rest of my life.
22.) bluecat - 06/28/2016
btw, the butler did it...

I haven't been around a lot of hog trapping, but a little. Most traps I know of are very vehicle-accessible. Hogs use roads a lot, and to corn them and to get the hogs out, it's much easier to do by truck than ATV. Certainly don't know anyone who sets a hog trap out in the middle of nowhere...although that's the kind of thing I would probably do, :tap::bang: LOL.

One thing I did notice is that the trap wasn't shaded very well. I expect that this was a springtime hunt, but still, you don't want hogs in a trap in the sun. Unless you're checking them every day or so.
24.) bluecat - 06/28/2016
It looked more like a cage than a trap, I would think if you wanted to trap hogs, the trap would hold more than one.

I don't know much about all this so your observations are more accurate I'm sure.

I don't know. I've stumbled across similarly-sized TPWD hog traps on the public land units I hunt. Unfortunately, they've always been empty.
26.) Swamp Fox - 06/28/2016
Depends on how the gate works. That's a big trap, especially height-wise, but it could hold more than one hog.

Lots of different trap designs, some quite small.

Billy's got some experience with trapping hogs. Maybe we can pull him away from smoking a Boston butt or whatever he's doing.

I saw Luv2 lurking for the first time in a long time this morning, as well.

I'd like to hear what he thinks. :wink

I saw him lurking too. Generally, though he comes in around August to make a special point to tell us he much he hates us.

Global warming must be screwing with his time clock.
29.) Swamp Fox - 06/28/2016
I have trained him over the years to make sure he stops by at least once during the summer in case it's time to sign up for the deer contest.

That looks like it might be pretty effective. Although....it does lack that satisfying *BOOM* that goes along with my favorite method.

i'm thinking that dialog was for the PETA folks out there. I feel confident that hog never saw the outside of that pen!
33.) Swamp Fox - 06/29/2016
I think you've probably hit the nail on the head about PETA. I never thought of that, but it's the only thing that makes sense to me, unless--for scent control--you remove the hog, drive him to a remote location, and execute him while your buddy pretends to take a leak.

"Leave the corn, take the delicious porker."
