1.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
I had reason to look this up...It's kind of an old outdoorsman's guide but I wanted to see the specific breakdowns again, and when I found this link I thought some others might be interested.

I didn't see an index for witches on bicycles. :cf:
Yesterday we had gusts up to 56 miles per hour. 3.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
Yikes.
I spent an unexpected night in the woods last Saturday because of the wind. Weatherman never said boo about sustained 25 mph winds, forget about the gusts to the mid 30s, so I ventured out on some water I wouldn't have otherwise. I couldn't paddle out under the bridge (read "wind tunnel") to get back to my launch site even two hours after sunset. Let me tell you, 40 degrees is right nippy, especially with damp feet, and I didn't get a lot of sleep, LOL. Believe it or not, getting out first thing the next morning was almost as bad. I finally got home at 10 AM, feeling like I'd been beaten with a sock full of nickels---and by a girl I was sweet on---and slept like a rock for 10 hours before going back to bed and conking out for another seven. Should have had a motor, LOL. 4.) bluecat - 04/08/2016
Was this like a bad episode of "naked and afraid" ?
5.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
Except for the light clothing, a ham sammich and one beer, yeah, probably...LOL
6.) bluecat - 04/08/2016
No coconut crème pie?
7.) bluecat - 04/08/2016
8.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
LOL...
I just renamed the point I camped on "Gilligan's Point"...LOL... Thanks for the inspiration. 9.) bluecat - 04/08/2016
Did you have provisions for the night as a backup or did this catch you completely off-guard?
10.) DParker - 04/08/2016
Was this like a bad episode of "naked and afraid" ?
More importantly...was there banjo music? 11.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
More importantly...was there banjo music?
No, but I thought I heard a mariachi band across the lake, where the Mexicans catfish...LOL
Did you have provisions for the night as a backup or did this catch you completely off-guard?
A little bit of both. I always have a light jacket with me, and on a chilly day wear or store wool socks. I have to step in water to launch or beach. I wasn't expecting the small leak in my neoprene boots, but that's what I get for a first-time re-purposing of some hunting boots that didn't get immersed a lot to begin with. This day, I had an extra jacket with me (fleece pullover) and long pants, even though my main fishing time was shorts and t-shirt weather. Don't ask me why. I suppose because it was supposed to get chillier in the late afternoon. The food and drink was left over from the day. For a long day, I take two sammiches and three cans of beer. I don't know what you get in the Navy these days, but they used to give you rum rations. Rum would destroy me. So I keep that at home, or in camp. :wink That said, I always keep two granola bars and water in the boat (No bananas---look it up.) So I would have had some sustenance, regardless. I keep two headlamps in the boat, and sometimes other lights. The headlamps help navigate on the water, obviously, but they also let me hike through the woods. In this case, they got me back to the truck 1/3 mile away, where I had a lightly insulated jacket. Either the fleece or the jacket usually stays in the truck, but this time I was lucky that I had both. I grabbed the extra jacket and hiked back to my gear. I also know the area very well, so it wasn't like I felt like I was stranded in Outer Slobovia. 12.) DParker - 04/08/2016
No, but I thought I heard a mariachi band across the lake...
And the prospect of guacamole and half-priced margaritas wasn't enough incentive to get you paddling? 13.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
LOL...They were cross-wind, which would have been even worse than trying to go into the wind. You should have seen how far how fast I got blown trying to round the riprap to go under the bridge into the breeze the first time....:omg:
I did hear a lot of laughter from that direction, though, so I'm glad they were having a good time...:-) 14.) DParker - 04/08/2016

"Look at that gringo in the boat! He never woulda' made it across the river with us!" 15.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
As long as they are laughing with me and not laughing at me, I welcome them and their tasty rice- and-corn-based food, and their beautiful women...
16.) DParker - 04/08/2016
The music did play and Felina did whirl.

Also, when you can tear yourselves away from that: :wink 18.) DParker - 04/08/2016
19.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
Well, it was between him and Jerry Garcia, so Abba won out...LOL...
Although I think Marty's version beats all that I can think of...For vocals, at least. "Wild as the West Texas wind..." 20.) DParker - 04/08/2016
I posted that pic of Fernando Lamas because it's from his role in the original The Lost World, which I rewatched this past weekend (yeah, TV sucked that bad). It served to remind me how spoiled younger people are when it comes to movie special effects. Here's what big-screen "dinosaurs" were in 1962:
Jurassic pet shop rumble. 21.) bluecat - 04/08/2016
He did look like Marty didn't he!
Swampy, you have that bare necessities website bookmarked don't you... 22.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
Other than that first one, they all look legit to me...LOL
The dinosaurs, I mean....Not necessarily the 1950s/60s/70s singers, LOL 23.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
He did look like Marty didn't he!
Swampy, you have that bare necessities website bookmarked don't you...
No, really. Some girl once said something about a Felina bra to me, so naturally I had to do some research...."El Paso" has never been the same for me since, for better or worse... :wink 24.) bluecat - 04/08/2016
I agree that kids today are spoiled, however...maybe we had to have more active imaginations. Some of those sci-fi films were pretty terrifying, even if you could barely see the strings.
25.) DParker - 04/08/2016
This is still the ultimate rendition of "El Paso". It really brings the story to life.
26.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
LOL...Steve Martin is the best...
Felina also refers to a type of otter, so you have to be careful how you use it... 27.) bluecat - 04/08/2016
LOL! It all makes sense now.
28.) bluecat - 04/08/2016
The only good Felina bra I've ever seen was crumpled up on the floor.
29.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
....
30.) DParker - 04/08/2016
Felina also refers to a type of otter, so you have to be careful how you use it...
I've always been an advocate of caution when using otters. It's just common sense. 31.) bluecat - 04/08/2016
So close...
32.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
I've always been an advocate of caution when using otters. It's just common sense.
LOL.... 33.) DParker - 04/08/2016
And don't even get me started on how careful you need to be with beavers.
34.) bluecat - 04/08/2016
....
35.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
"I hope you brought protection..."
And he pulls out a pistol... What movie was that line in ^^^^^^? Was it one of the Naked Gun movies? 36.) DParker - 04/08/2016
"I hope you brought protection..."
And he pulls out a pistol... What movie was that line in ^^^^^^? Was it one of the Naked Gun movies?
I think you might have stumped the panel with that one. 37.) bluecat - 04/08/2016
I gots nothing.
38.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
South Park?
We might have to open this up to the wider forum and see if anyone out there knows...LOL Maybe even offer a prize... 39.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
Or maybe I have that slightly wrong...
Maybe the girl says, "I hope you have protection" and the guy says, "No, I don't like guns...Oh..." I know I saw it in something fairly recently....LOL 40.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
I almost want to say Chevy Chase...
41.) DParker - 04/09/2016
Maybe the girl says, "I hope you have protection" and the guy says, "No, I don't like guns...Oh..
At which point she remebered that she preferred men and dumped him for one, right? 42.) bluecat - 04/09/2016
Maybe the girl says, "I hope you have protection" and the guy says, "I lost all my guns in a canoe accident."
 |
