I'm off to the Hallmark store to choose an appropriate card. Hopefully it's right next to a liquor store or local brew pub.

I put my kegerator to the test. I can't ignore a NATIONAL holiday!

In fact, the alcohol industry has long been relied upon to bring in tax dollars. For perspective, in 2013, the alcohol industry generated $7.9 billion in federal excise taxes (that doesn’t include state and local excise taxes). Today, excise taxes make up about 3% of federal receipts – and that doesn’t count taxes on production, distribution, and sale of alcohol: when it comes to beer, those taxes eat up 40% of the retail price. While the federal excise tax is about 5 cents per drink (assuming that the average beer has an alcohol content of 4.5%), the actual tax rate is $18 per barrel of beer, or 10 cents per ounce of alcohol.

And I thought the gasoline tax was high!

This means the taxes generated by PBR and some others--say--are astronomically higher than sales revenue to the company that makes the product, and higher than even the revenue to the retailer. That's quite a racket! I need to find a scam like that for myself.

Thanks for posting that. Very interesting.

Well, now that I read that again, I guess she could be distinguishing the alcohol content from the beer itself. That's a little weird, but I guess the milk is different from the cow.

The question is, is the meat different from the animal?--LOL

They're MADE of meat!
5.) bluecat - 04/08/2016
I always chuckle when I hear that meat has lots of protein...

I nod and courteously acknowledge that meat does have a lot of protein.
6.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
Good point.

In this case it doesn't make a lot of sense. If you run the numbers on the tax rates given in the TTB table she cites they're all over the map you'll find that there isn't any direct correlation between those rates and alcohol content when you compare the rates for beer, wine and distilled hooch.
8.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
So you're saying that the only way the numbers make any sense is after a few beers?

I've been there before...LOL

We should get Bernie on this. This kind of math is right up his alley.
So you're saying that the only way the numbers make any sense is after a few beers?
Or if you just remember that you're trying to make sense of something from fed.gov. Either one has the potential to give you a headache.

"Either way, just as good."

Is that longspanx?
11.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
Alcohol and government?

Excellent!

On a related note, if you need (or just want) another reason to not vote for Hillary, here's the best example of her incompetence I've seen so far:

LOL...

She should ask Bill about getting good head...

I'm sorry...It was just too easy...:-)
15.) DParker - 04/08/2016
Just just seems so proud of her epic failure....bless her heart.
16.) Swamp Fox - 04/08/2016
It's too bad she doesn't have a personality, or she could almost be the Rodney Dangerfield of politicians...

That's actually the only photo I've ever seen of him that makes we want to like him at least a tiny bit.
