Good news is I wasn't in the stand, all the components survived and relocated to another tree and oh yeah ... I killed two deer out of it this year during bow season.

Bad news? There isn't any. Not today anyway.

Not the first time your stand and the tree have ended up horizontal. Just glad you weren't in it this time :-)

That's good news that there is no bad news lucky stand for sure.
4.) Jon - 04/06/2016
I'd hunt out of it anyway! Good nap spot. Glad you weren't in it brother
5.) Swamp Fox - 04/06/2016
Glad you were elsewhere.

Looks like you created a good place for a ground blind:wink

I knew at the end of this season there were 2 reasons I would need to relocate the stand.

1.
It wasn't precisely strategic and I prefer precisely strategic. In those moments of sheer tree stand boredom I evaluate every possible tree, angle and position and run every trail cam picture in my head over and over. The location and tree was good enough for 2 years in a row but I felt I could do better.

2.
I generally stay away from pine trees as there are plenty of hardwoods where I hunt but when the canopy is bare, deep into the season, I love pine trees for year round concealment and masking scent. But when pines start to die (as this one was) and there are high winds (40+mph took this one down) forgedda bout it. I steer clear.

Wow...and I thought I needed to lose weight.

OK, I do. But that kinda' undercuts the joke, so let's pretend that I don't.

I was gonna ask how long that tree had been as dead as it looks, but something held me back...:wink LOL

One of the most awe-inspiring things I've ever seen is a healthy pine at least 50% bigger than that one snapped 5 feet up from the base by a freak wind. And not a hurricane or tornado wind, either, LOL. Just regular ol' Mother Nature on "one of her days."

Did this happen Saturday, by any chance? We had hellacious wind here that the weatherman never said boo about, at least not until I was out in the big water with only a paddle.

There's a semi-interesting story there, but I'm not sure anyone wants to hear it, LOL...

LOL....I had a couple of beer-and-donut jokes all lined up for Bob...This self-censorship thing is no fun at all...Really cramping my style....

I don't know where it comes from all of a sudden...

I might need to see a doctor.

glad you wasn't in it brother. We had 3 stands last year like this. We wasn't lucky and lost the sticks and stands though.

I'd say that last year it had a full canopy but nothing below the 20' mark where the sticks and stand were located. This past year the canopy thinned out considerably which is why I knew it was time to move and after many hours in this stand I could see a better tree (white oak) nearby that was better. And yes, the big wind we had over this past Saturday did 'er in.

Good luck in your new home!

Always exciting to see what happens in a repositioned stand.
