1.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
This is the time of year you see a bunch of seminars and talks being given for aspiring gobbler slayers, and a lot of them are geared towards folks who are new to the chase, or even new to hunting altogether. There are a few geared toward intermediate and even so-called advanced hunters but it seems to me they're less common.
Is anybody familiar with any good talks, speakers or events for this second crowd? I'd kinda like to know what they're doing. If you were going to try to learn something new, what would you like to get out of a formal presentation or a brain-picking session with a good turkey hunter? What questions would you ask? What turkey hunting problems would you like to solve? Techniques, strategies, skills, GPS coordinates, general philosophy....LOL...What? 2.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
Crookedeye usually has a lot of questions...I wonder where he is. :wink
3.) bluecat - 02/02/2016
For me it always comes down to, do I put out a jake or not? When I do, they generally run away. When I don't, they generally run away.
4.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
LOL...
Have you tried the Funky Chicken? I keep threatening to, but haven't yet. I want to ask some turkey hunter who can tell a good story, "So what exactly happened when you pulled your Funky Chicken out in front of somebody for the first time?" 5.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
"So what exactly happened when you pulled your Funky Chicken out in front of somebody for the first time?"
Well it was at band camp... 7.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
"Did he jump?"
"Well, yeah, a little bit." LOL 8.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
I'd play a Funky Chicken video now except the only ones I've seen are too long, too boring, or otherwise not up to our standards around here. :wink
9.) bluecat - 02/02/2016
I looked at those too and decided I wouldn't make y'all suffer.

Standards? When did that happen? 11.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
Standards? When did that happen?
I blame Wild Bob... 12.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
There's one video I thought to play, but the music's wrong, it's played in the wrong place, there's way too much going on that you could never get away with if you hunt actual wild turkeys under pressure, the guys seem like video-gaming doofuses, etc.
Other than that, an awesome video, dude. 13.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
I just looked at the seminar lineup for the Dixie Deer Classic this year (first weekend of March). It sometimes has something decent for turkey hunting. Not so much this year, although the speaker they have doing the seminar on calling is a great hunter and a champion caller. I'm not sure how fresh the material's gonna be, though. I guess I'll hope to be surprised.
14.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
One thing I'd like to hear somebody speak on sometime is afternoon and evening hunting.
You don't hear enough about that. If I get out on the morning roost, I usually have problems staying out all day, or even catching a nap and then going for Round Two, LOL. It's different if you can get back in bed after a good lunch in the AC and then go out again. But I should probably do some more afternoon-only hunts. I can't say I'm overly optimistic about what my success rate would be. Plus it's a pretty sedentary way to hunt, which isn't really my first choice with turkeys. But there are worse ways to spend your time than an afternoon in a blind, preferably with a bow. Right? . Somebody also has to explain to me how to function at work if you hunt in the morning. You read about it a lot (or you used to) but I don't think it works for most people, LOL. Never really worked for me. :bang: 15.) bluecat - 02/02/2016
Who is the hunter/caller for the Dixie Classic?
16.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
Marshall Collette...He's a local guy. I think he travels, at least a little. If you ever get a chance to hear or meet him, it's worth it.
17.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
This is decent. If you're short on time, the best parts are probably after the 4 minute mark, and especially the last four or five minutes. In between it's probably stuff most guys who've been around a while know or do already. But maybe not.
Marshall Collette...He's a local guy. I think he travels, at least a little. If you ever get a chance to hear or meet him, it's worth it.
If you look for him in Yahoo Images, this is one of the results. Unfortunately, this is not him... 19.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
Seems like the game plan over at the Dixie Deer Classic for the last handful of years has been celebrity attractions every other year. The money raised goes for conservation projects, so I'm sure the less paid for celebrities the better off the world is.
This year it's just the regular crew, no celebs. Not sure why I want to meet any television Swamp People, anyway, and Tiffany lost almost all her attraction for me when she got married, LOL. I think Eva Shockey was here a few years ago, but I missed it for some reason. I guess I could be talked into that....:wink 20.) bluecat - 02/02/2016
Good video, thanks.

I wouldn't ...I've heard from Swampy that they're low return...:-):-):-) 22.) bluecat - 02/02/2016

Whoa! What'd I miss, how did I end up drug into this??? :-) 24.) Wild Bob - 02/02/2016

This is more fun than the old Mad-Libs...
26.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
Speaking of someone who learned a new trick and needs to FIFY responsibly...LOL
WB, I had to dig pretty deep on that last one, but I hear ya! LOL 27.) bluecat - 02/02/2016
You're kinda ornery today Bob.
28.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
I'd pretty much take any turkey hunting advice she wanted to give me...
29.) bluecat - 02/02/2016
I'd even overlook the fact that she's using a pellet gun? What is that thing?
30.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
Okay, what it's looking like is that the Perfect Turkey Hunting Seminar includes discussion of decoy sets and afternoon hunting, the money goes toward conservation, and the presentations are done by girls who look great in bikinis....
Am I right so far? 31.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
I'd even overlook the fact that she's using a pellet gun? What is that thing?
Pellet gun? What pellet gun? I can just barely make out the turkey... 32.) Wild Bob - 02/02/2016
You forget...I'm happy! :-)
33.) Wild Bob - 02/02/2016
Did you guys know that Lewis and Clark even had a number of air guns on their expedition?
34.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
Did you guys know that Lewis and Clark even had a number of air guns on their expedition?
Yes, I'd read that. A LONG TIME AGO---I think it was on here---I got in a brawl with a guy who insisted there was no such thing. 37.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
So far so good.
Good, because I don't want to get off track here...:wink 38.) bluecat - 02/02/2016
I've been going at this all wrong!
39.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
....
40.) Wild Bob - 02/02/2016
Very interesting! I stand corrected...one, not a number of. Just goes to show you...you can't trust local lore!
41.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2016
Very interesting! I stand corrected...one, not a number of. Just goes to show you...you can't trust local lore!
Yeah, but it was a high-capacity military-style assault air gun....so....it's like they had a number of them. 43.) Dan-o - 02/03/2016
I'd type up my thoughts on turkey hunting, but eventually someone will get their feelings hurt, shut down the website, and all that effort and content will be lost. So Instead Swampy, just give me a call someday and we can talk turkey hunting!
44.) bluecat - 02/03/2016
Recocking a pellet gun in front of strutting birds wouldn't be a problem I don't think.
45.) bluecat - 02/03/2016
The difficulty is in remembering your carefully rehearsed and edited endorsement lines after the kill.
46.) bluecat - 02/03/2016
I always write them out on my hand so I can sneak a peak while pretending to fluff up the tail or stretch out the beard.

That's like something Luv2 said on here a while back, but look at him now: posting funny videos and stuff like a boss. I still say this is the best damn hunting forum on the webz...LOL   48.) Wild Bob - 02/03/2016

Don't humor yourself...we're all assholes at some point in our lives; we can't help it...we're men!! :-) 49.) crookedeye - 02/07/2016
theres a seminar here in a couple weeks by Frans Stickinkular..he's an up and coming turkey hunter out of germany..

i always want to learn how to outwit a turkey.. they say a turkey has the brain the size of a freakin pea...
51.) crookedeye - 02/07/2016
i spent thousands of dollars to get the illusive turkey.. it's a chess match between me and the turkey...
52.) Swamp Fox - 02/07/2016
LOL...
 I don't want this thread to get lost today...:wink 53.) Swamp Fox - 02/18/2016

Nice video.
55.) Swamp Fox - 02/18/2016
I thought so. Couple of things could have been better, but I think Wild Bob would approve. :wink
:poke: 56.) Swamp Fox - 02/18/2016
I think that soundtrack is The Lumineers, but can someone confirm? I could use the name of the song as well.
57.) Swamp Fox - 02/18/2016
My second guess is The Decemberists...
58.) Swamp Fox - 02/18/2016
D'oh!
Music credits at the end of the Vimeo turkey video above...Though I thought I was posting a version without credits---which I don't think I'm imagining, LOL. I believe I've seen a version without credits. :bang::groan: First track is easy. I still have to nail down the second track. 59.) Deerminator - 02/18/2016
Turkey hunting seems to depend a lot on weather or not you have a good spot or not.
