So it appears that the part of the intertubez that posts with a southern drawl is all lit up about so many of last night's CMA awards going to Chris Stapleton...an artist whom it appears most of them had never even heard of before (in spite of his long and accomplished career in the biz). I didn't watch the CMA, nor have I ever, because...quite frankly...the vast majority of contemporary "country" music that's commercially successful these days sucks, and has for quite some time now. In fact, when I got home last night my wife had the DirecTV box tuned to a modern country music station for background noise while she was making dinner. I used the time to install some "smart" switches for the new ceiling fan and light that I put up over the weekend (part of my ongoing home automation endeavor), and didn't bother to change the channel. The installation took me about an hour before I got everything working correctly with the "SmartThings" hub and all, and for the life of me...the entire time I couldn't tell where one song stopped and another one started. The tempo and basic melody of every single song was almost exactly the same. And it wasn't even a good melody. It struck me as the equivalent of a simple rap performed to steel guitars. In fact I think I've posted this brilliant illustration of the phenomenon here before:

So when a co-worker enlightened me this morning about all the buzz regarding Chris Stapleton he sent me a few links to some of his tunes, and I'll say that what I saw and heard of him strikes me as heads-and-shoulders above most the crap that's been spewing forth from the CM biz for quite a while. So maybe there's hope. On the other hand, he then said that his absolute favorite was this one:

Every time I've tried to submit more than one in the same post via the video-embed control it's been rejected with an error.

BTW...I now have all of the lights in the living room and family room, as well as the ceiling fan in the latter responding to voice command control. Now, if I could just figure out how to make that work with a wife.....I'd be a billionaire.

ETA: Well, technically I [I]do[/I] get a response from her when issuing commands by voice. It's just almost never the one that I want.
