I'm considering getting an AR platform in 300 BLK.
Let's here your ideas, suggestions, recommendations. 2.) OKY - 03/21/2013
Can you find parts to build one?

Excuse me sir, I will refrain from...wait, what was the question?:cf::cf:

Q-public says, "yes".

As to the parts question, good luck for a little while (though things are starting to ease up just a little now).
I think 300 AAC is the best AR chambering to come along since the ill-fated 6.8 SPC. Better even, in a way, because you can use standard STANAG mags and load them to full capacity. And if you go suppressed it's still potent with sub-sonic loads (at reasonable ranges, of course). If I ever get around to building one myself turning some of this mountain of .223 brass into 300 cases is going to keep me busy. 8.) luv2bowhunt - 03/21/2013
I'd say go for it, but consider how this could effect home owners insurance.:re:

uhhhhh... hmmmm.. whats a 300BLK?
uhhhhh... hmmmm.. whats a 300BLK?
"300 BLK" is shorthand for ".300 Blackout"...aka, ".300 AAC" and ".300 AAC Blackout". It's a wildcat round (well, it WAS a wildcat round that was recently standardized by SAAMI) that consists of a .308" (.30-caliber) bullet in a necked-up .223 Remington case. In full-power loads it is ballistically similar to the 7.62x39 (think AK-47), albeit just a little less powerful. And because of it's use of the .223 case it can be loaded into STANAG mags (standard AR-15 mags) just like .223/5.56 rounds. As a bonus, it can be loaded as a sub-sonic round for suppressed rifles and still be potent at moderate distances. Mostly due to these characteristics the new round is rapidly becoming very popular with AR enthusiasts. 12.) BULLZ-i - 03/21/2013
I KEEP TELLING YOU KNUCKLE HEADS..... AMMO, PARTS, AMMO, PARTS, AMMO, PARTS. ALTHOUGH THINGS ARE STARTING TO LIGHTEN UP, THE CHIT STORM IS NO WHERE NEAR OVER.
NO MATTER WHAT, YOU WILL ALWAYS NEED A SUPPLY OF AMMO AVAILABLE ON STANDBY. 300 BLK IS NOT A STANDARD OR CHEEP CALIBER TO FIND AND/OR PURCHASE. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GO TO YOUR NEXT DOOR NEIGHBORS HOUSE AND ASK FOR A CUP OF 300 BLACKOUT WHEN SHTF. ALSO WHEN FACTORY AMMO SUPLIES ARE AT RISK, THE COMPANIES WILL BE PUSHING .223/5.56 AND .308/7.62X51 AND 7.62X39 AS BEST THEY CAN AND WILL ALSO BE THE LEAST EXPENSIVE. WE HAVE HAD 2 PANIC BUYING FRENZY's IN THE LAST YEAR OR SO ALL INCLUSIVE TO AMMO AND GUNS & COMPONENTS. WHEN SHTF, I MAY TOSS YOU A MAGAZINE TO GET BACK IN THE FIGHT, BUT I WILL NOT GIVE YOU OR ANY OTHER MY GUN, YOU BETTER HOPE THAT FULL MAGAZINE WORKS FOR YOUR APPLICATION. NOW THEN, I UNDERSTAND THE LIKES AND WANTS OF NEW OR OR UNUSUAL CALIBERS, BUT NEEDS????? THE SECOND IT RUNS OUT OF JUICE, THEN WHAT? IF THIS WEAPON IS A BACK UP OR SPORTING WEAPON ONLY THEN HAVE YOUR FUN, BUT AS A PDR, PROLLY NOT THE BEST DECISION. THIS IS JUST MY PERSONAL OPINION AND RAMBLINGS. TAKE IT FOR THAT ONLY. 13.) luv2bowhunt - 03/21/2013

When I get home tonight I'm going next door and ask if they can spare a couple boxes of .223 and see what happens. And mind you, we haven't even had any zombie sightings yet. :p Honestly, if you're serious about being prepared for ammo shortages then you've equipped yourself for reloading. And if you've done that then something like 300 BLK isn't much more of a challenge than .223/5.56, as the only difference is the use of .30 cal bullets (which are about as common as .224"....AND you're not competing with LEO/military for the existing supply) and the need to rework the necks on the .223 Rem cases. But if you're strictly buying factory ammo off-the-shelf then the story is a little different...although .223 isn't exactly cheap and plentiful right now either. Hell, would you have predicted a 6 months ago that .22 LR would be near impossible to find, and going in some cases for well over $100 for 525 rd boxes? Of course, if you're talking about scrounging compatible ammo from the zombie-gnawed corpes of your neighbors then yeah, that's a different story (and one most of us are going to be hard-pressed to survive anyway, and not because we didn't lay in enough guns and ammo). 17.) Bob Peck - 03/21/2013
I travel the world for my job.
Bottom line is we ought to be able to build what we want, shoot what we want and buy what we want to support our hobby and sport. Sadly, we are reduced to our cro-magnon instincts. I do not hold myself above any of this. I stockpile as much .308, 30-06 and .44 mag as I can wherever I am. A box here and a box there. I can tell you in the U.S that the panic buying is very real and not over by a long shot (pun intended). There is a lull only because the manufacturers of ammo and weaponry haven't caught up and frankly may never. Demand (real, perceived and waiting lists) has far, far outstripped supply. The notion of supply and demand ever getting back to parity is a well-known industry joke. That day is long gone. Many think this started with Sandy Hook but the sales number, background checks and conceal carry permit applications show it began as a trickle during the first election of our President and ramped up quickly upon his re-election. Sandy Hook pushed it to a new level. This was predictable but I'm not sure the magnitude was. Some manufacturers are using the panic buying very much to their advantage and releasing limited quantities on regular intervals and at much higher wholesale prices, some (not many) are ramping up production to meet demand and still others aren't doing anything special in the hopes that it will all level off and return to stasis. I have personally witnessed several feeding frenzies the most recent of which was in a Gander in Fredericksburg, VA last week. The store employees weaving through the aisles with pallet jacks full of ammo were descended upon from several angles. By the time they reached the gun area more than one patron had their pocket knife out and cutting the clear plastic wrap holding the pallet together. Bottom line is the ammo never made it to the shelf. People were grabbing armfuls of ammo. One guy made the mistake of basically reaching over my back and nearly knocking me to the floor. If we were on a basketball court he would have gotten a technical and I would have been ejected. He got a nuclear shove and a death ray. 18.) BULLZ-i - 03/21/2013
BP: YOUR ON MY LINE OF THINKING
DP: YOU ARE TOO, BUT JUST BECAUSE A GUY HAS A PRESS OR 2 SET UP (I DO) DONT MEAN THE PRIMERS, POWDER, BULLETS, MOLDS AND DIES ARE AVAILABLE, HELL EVEN BRASS IS AT AN ALL TIME PREMIUM... AND MOST IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD SAY "OH HELL NO"!!! WITH THE AWB ON THE BACK BURNER (FOR TIME BEING) I CAN SEE RETAILER STOCK NORMALIZING AND BACK ORDERS CANCELLED. STORES THAT ORDERED SO MUCH INVENTORY WILL REALIZE THEY CAN NOT MOVE THAT MUCH THE STOCK THAT THEY HAVE ORDERED AT MUCH HIGHER PRICE WHEN THEIR COMPETITORS CAN OFFER AT A LOWER PRICE. MAYBE NOT AS LOW AS PRIOR BUT AT THAT POINT IN TIME AND IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT. THAT WILL BE THE TIME TO START BUYING GUNS, AMMO AND COMPONENTS FOR DEALS. SOME PRIVATE CUSTOMERS THAT WERE PANIC DRIVEN WILL ALSO BE WANTING TO OFF LOAD WHAT THEY REALLY COULDN'T AFFORD TO PUT ON THEIR CREDIT CARDS AND THEN SEEING THE PRICE OF WHAT THEY PURCHASED DROP SIGNIFICANTLY. A BUYING PERIOD IS ON THE HORIZON, BUT WHO KNOWS HOW LONG THAT WILL LAST. GET WHAT YOU WANT WHEN YOU CAN. 19.) Floyd - 03/21/2013

AND MOST IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD SAY "OH HELL NO"!!!
Quite true. But my point was with regard to the supply differences between .223 and something more "exotic" like 300 BLK, and the fact that if you're relying on pre-manufactured ammo then you're not doing SHTF prep right. But if you're more prone to rely on your own reloads then there is very little difference between the two cartridges in terms of supply issues...which are no worse right now for reloaders than for off-the-shelf ammo purchasers.
WITH THE AWB ON THE BACK BURNER (FOR TIME BEING) I CAN SEE RETAILER STOCK NORMALIZING AND BACK ORDERS CANCELLED.
A movement toward being more normal (relatively speaking...we'll never be back to what was so recently "normal") will happen, but I don't see that many backorders being canceled. People were seriously spooked this time, even more so than 11/2008, and I suspect that very few are willing to not follow through on their attempts to stock up now.
STORES THAT ORDERED SO MUCH INVENTORY WILL REALIZE THEY CAN NOT MOVE THAT MUCH THE STOCK THAT THEY HAVE ORDERED AT MUCH HIGHER PRICE WHEN THEIR COMPETITORS CAN OFFER AT A LOWER PRICE. Pretty much every single round that has been ordered by retailers is already spoken for by some eager customer. I don't foresee much excess inventory sitting on the shelves as a result of the current ordering cycle.
In the items discription is written, "(Concussion Reduction Device)". Did you miss that?
The little cagey thingy around the brake. 29.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2014
Nope, I saw it and had no idea what it meant. I figure somebody had just decided to declare they'd come up with a better mousetrap. I bet the flame still comes out the front, but I don't see where the gasses go (except mostly out the front).
But what the hell do I know about brakes... That's why I'm asking. 30.) Floyd - 02/02/2014
You got me..... I guess there could be a fake brake that don't brake brakes like real brakes do. Let me go look. Do some reading.
