1.) Deerminator - 03/18/2013
Cause I can't find one around here.
357's yes. 44mag no. Weird.
2.) DParker - 03/18/2013
Any particular style (cowboy gun, carry-type revolver, etc)? And are you saying you can't find anyone that carries a 4" .44 mag, or just can't find one currently in-stock?
3.) Deerminator - 03/18/2013
I'd like a Smith.
I've been visiting and callingl the gun shops in the area and nobody has one new or used.

If you're having trouble finding anything at local shops, have you tried any of the on-line auction sites?

5.) CHRIS - 03/18/2013
Deerminator, what shops have you been checked in western NY? Buffalo Gun Center? Beikirchs? Everything is drawing premium dollars today..especially in NY.
6.) Deerminator - 03/18/2013
I'm around Syracuse.

I have looked on the web and seen a few. Might be the way to go.
I was hopeing to just pick one up. It's still cash and carry here. ( for now )
7.) CHRIS - 03/18/2013
i'll keep my eyes open for one in my travels up there.
8.) Deerminator - 03/18/2013
Sweet, Thanks man.:tu:
9.) Swamp Fox - 03/18/2013
I like these...Every year or two I think I have a need for one, or the Taurus...

10.) Deerminator - 03/18/2013
The S&W guns have drop in kits for smoothing the trigger. Single and double action.
Taurus is a great firearm but very difficult to get trigger jobs. Don't know of a smith that would even tackle the job.
11.) Swamp Fox - 03/18/2013
I only mention the Taurus because of their lightweight .44 (titanium). It seems to have earned its stripes since its introduction several years ago.

That damn tracker in a 44 will stomp this piss outta your hand
16.) Deerminator - 03/19/2013
I bet it does.
17.) CHRIS - 03/19/2013
deerminator check you PM.
18.) Deerminator - 03/20/2013
OK:tu:
19.) Deerminator - 03/20/2013
That damn tracker in a 44 will stomp this piss outta your hand
Truer words were never spoken! I've shot 100+ rounds through my neighbor's Tracker back before ammo got scarce. I thought I'd be a smartie pants know-it-all and buy the Raging Bull version. With nothing to back it up I figured the longer barrel (8-3/8") would improve accuracy (it did) and tame the recoil (it didn't). It's a whole different revolver shooting .44 specials through it but then again the muzzle velocity drops like a stone with that cartridge.
21.) Deerminator - 03/20/2013
Hi Bob. How's things.

How's the trigger on that Bull? If you have fired a Smith or Colt revolver with target triggers or
triggers that have been worked on than you know there's a big difference. Especially when shooting longer hunting range distances.
Balance gets wacky. Hard to hold steady and pull straight back.

Ya ever think about having detachable stock made for it? That would be kinda cool.
Actually REALLY cool. Might even be able to sell it to Taurus, who knows?
Hi Bob. How's things.
Family is healthy and we survived Snowmaggedon (15" gone in 48 hrs) so life is good!
How's the trigger on that Bull?
You know ... surprisingly out of the box it wasn't too bad. I'm guessing the hillbilly gunsmiths in VA ain't skeered of doing a trigger job on it. Got it back in 72 hrs and yeah, you're right ... *BIG* difference.
23.) CHRIS - 03/20/2013
does your wife know you got a "trigger job" done...on your gun.
Did you have them put new iron sights on it for you?

Great to hear Bob. Y'all been getting a lot of crappy weather this year.

It's a nice pistol to shoot 44 SPL through, and yes your velocity then takes a nose dive...
26.) Deerminator - 03/20/2013
Say Logan, Have you seen many 4" 44mags down your way?

My wife doesn't even know about the gun. Should she find out from a dirt bag like you I will simply do what she does "Oh, this revolver?! I've had that for years. Where you been?"

The iron sights? I paid extra from Taurus to have black-on-black, "couldn't see 'em in the best light" high performance iron sights put on so I could promptly take them off. It's only money.
28.) CHRIS - 03/21/2013
I would never rat you out... unless your she devil pressures me. Before you buy a Halo style sight or regular pistol scope Ill let you shoot mine to see if you like them.

WHAT DID YOU ELECT TO GO WITH
31.) Deerminator - 04/12/2013
WOOHOO!

Finaly found one at a resonable price on gunsamerica.
Lets see how long it takes to get it in my hands
32.) Swamp Fox - 04/12/2013
You'll put your eye out!
33.) Deerminator - 04/12/2013

34.) DParker - 04/12/2013
Wait...you can buy guns on the internet?!!!!
35.) Deerminator - 04/12/2013
Guess so:grin:

Ammo...no... weird ain't it
36.) DParker - 04/12/2013
Is it (the .44) coming from outside of NY?
37.) Swamp Fox - 04/12/2013
Can somebody explain to me why you can't find .22LR anywhere? Or at least some places? Gander Mountain for instance?

Explanations other than "Gander sucks", I mean...

:-)

I read an article recently about this and the best the author could come up with was "hoarding", but no facts to back it up.
38.) Deerminator - 04/12/2013
Is it (the .44) coming from outside of NY?
Yes. It's in SC right now. Check is in the mail and my FFL just faxed them his paper work.
Should be on it's way here about Wensday...
39.) Deerminator - 04/12/2013
Can't help ya swampy. 22 and 22mag have been hard to find around here ever since the poop hit the fan.
The stores are getting small shipments and they only will sell you a small amount of ammo. Wait till you see what a brick will cost you:shocked:

Still can't figure out how Tom is any safer at his school now.

That's pretty much it. For a couple of reasons a lot of people have decided that they need to stock up on as much .22 LR as they can, one being the fear of bans of anything larger (pretty silly, really). They other reasons just get more ridiculous from there.

Gander does suck though. :p

Cool. When you pick it up make sure you film yourself filling out the 4473 and the FFL conducting the background check and then send it to all of your local news stations complaining that you couldn't buy a gun on the internet without a background check like all of the politicians assured you that you could.
41.) Deerminator - 04/12/2013
Last year I was done in 20min. A quick phone call and a trip down town.
Cash and carry:tu:

The most time consuming thing was finding a parking spot.
Can somebody explain to me why you can't find .22LR anywhere? Or at least some places? Gander Mountain for instance?
My unscientific and anecdotal study based on conversations with big box retailers, their buyers and some local gun store owners is pointing towards the proliferation and popularity of .22 caliber AR platforms. This gun is less expensive than other calibers and runs ammo through at prodigious rates. Like most things AR (or so it seems) ammo, clips, accessories, etc are all hard to find. It's not the plinkers like my son target shooting with our Browning Buckmark 22lr.

If I had to rate the big box stores in terms of who is doing the best job in a bad situation from best to worst I'd rate as follows:

Cabelas
Bass Pro
Gander
Dick's
Sportsman's Warehouse
Every Other Wanna Be Box Store

My local shop, Dominion Outdoors is actually doing a great job prospecting for ammo of all types. I'm seeing my calibers .308, .44 mag, .44 special, 30-06, .32 Special in reasonable but spotty supply. I have .308 clips that have been on order since December but I feel that's more a function of needing Armalite clips that only work in an Armalite platform. Those clips have to come from Armalite or the grey market where an outrageous premium is being applied.

By and large Dominion is doing things right by not over promising and under delivering. They dig, they work all channels and besides trying to make sales they realize consumers will remember the honest effort to do what seems impossible. Do I see an uptick in retail pricing of ammo? Um. Yeah. Not gouging per se. Just an uptick.
43.) DParker - 04/12/2013
Bob, that post was so useful and on-topic I'm not even going to give you a hard time about your usage of "clip". :p
44.) Swamp Fox - 04/13/2013
So all of a sudden everyone's shootng .22 LR ARs? How did I miss this?
45.) Deerminator - 04/13/2013
It's a fad.
46.) DParker - 04/13/2013
It's a fad.
Well, it was a good way to be able train/plink with an AR without having to pay an arm and a leg for ammo (as Bob points out, you can burn through brass really quickly in one range session). But now all of the mass-buying has driven the per-round of even bulk .22 LR to the point that's it's actually cheaper to shoot .223 if you buy cheap bulk stuff.
47.) Swamp Fox - 04/13/2013
I've NEVER seen a .22 LR AR on the range...NEVER...Like unicorns, I know they exist, and I think they're fabulous...but I've NEVER seen one on the range...

:wink
I've NEVER seen a .22 LR AR on the range...NEVER...Like unicorns, I know they exist, and I think they're fabulous...but I've NEVER seen one on the range... :wink
I also have never seen one on the range. I suspect mostly because the owners may fear being ostracized or having their manhood put into question. It it pure speculation but I suspect you *will* find them in hillbilly hollars, backwoods hideaways and backyards.

I've seen them. Where I live it's not at all uncommon for fathers to bring their 8 year-old daughters out for a day of shooting fun. :wink
