Yesterday I had a little time to kill, so I went into a local Pawn Shop to look around. Almost everything there was Over Priced and Garbage. But then I spotted "The Deal of The Century"!

It was an antique Bear bow in Fantastic Shape...... or so the salesman said. The bow really peaked my interest because it was so different and it had Character! How could anyone Pass it up and Not take it home? And it was a real Bargain Price! (Or so the Salesman said!)

Take a look at this little gem and let me know if I should rush back and make a purchase:

I woud pass, they weren't very good in the day with cast risers, tear drop cables and fiberglass limbs. $50 would be more like it especially because you won't be shooting it anyway. IF you do feel the need to buy it, make sure you ONLY put FF string on it.

Sure, if they'll throw in a new string and cable and drop the price to $37, or $25 bare bow. :wink

I'm starting to rethink my decision finally a few years ago to leave my Browning wheelie out by the mailbox on the road...

I keep threatening to cruise some pawnshops ---If I ever come across my buttery Marlin 336 with the refinished satin stock and the fiber optic front sight, stolen from my home somewhere around 2008, I vow to join a monastery---but I never see much of interest in them on the rare occasions I make good on my intentions.

When I see pawn shops at gun shows, it seems like they've priced everything that I'd look at twice just about where you'd find Gun Broker or Guns America holding.

Anybody ever have any better luck with firearms or outdoor gear at a pawnshop?

Tools?

I'd think internet selling is probably killing the brick and mortar pawnshops that don't get in on the action.

not actually, I already own this sweet shooter! :) I've been around a while and I do know what a bow should look like, how they work and about what they should cost. I also know to Not Shop at a Pawn Shop for a bow if you don't know what you are doing! ;) :) :D

That's funny. However, that being said; that exact model (a Black Bear) was my first compound bow. (But mine must have been a little older than that one in the picture because mine had wheel brackets…just like the brown bow in the picture to the right.) Further more, if my memory doesn't fail me, I believe we bought it for 75.00 brand new back in the day.

Hahahahahhaha...

You know, looking at the picture again...I think the goofballs have the bows mislabeled because that riser, the limbs and handle look to me suspiciously like an old PSE Whitetail model. Now that brown bow in the picture off to the right; I'd bet my left pinky that is a true Bear 'Black Bear.'

Swampy - "Luck with buying anything at a Pawn shop?"

I've gotten a few good deals on power tools and video game systems over the years. More recently, my buddy got a steal of a deal on a Lowrance HDS Fish finder unit (which in reality, it probably was a steal since it came without a dust cover, and without the wiring harness and it came from a pawn shop on the Res...) But, it works great and he got a $1400 unit for $350.00 bucks.

I've never mustered up the guts to try a used gun from a Pawn Shop; as you mentioned, they never seem to be a good deal price wise and most I've seen look neglected and not well taken care of.

But that being said, I have bought a couple of brand new revolvers over the years from pawn shops which were offered at a good price for new. So go figure...
