1.) Jon - 08/26/2015
The new property has 100yds from the back deck to the woods so I figured it's be a great spot for a gun range. My wife and I shoot allot, mostly pistols but prior to gun seasons, I like to sight in my shotguns/muzzleloader and rifles.
I built a backstop using 3 - 8' 4x4's buried 2' in the ground and faced it with 8' - 2x6 boards. I then piled dirt and stacked maple logs every foot, piling dirt on top and doing it again until I got to almost 6' tall. Like I mentioned, I can get 100yds from the deck but if I want to stretch it out, using the side yard I can get 250 max. The backstop is effective stopping a .308 round with zero penetration into the 2x6 backstop. The dirt and maple logs stop that round so I would think I'm good with anything else we shoot. I built a target holder (not shown) that sits in front of the backstop that we can staple targets to. Works great! When I first saw the pics of your yard there, my first thought was "rifle range." :tu:
