This is the official sign-up and rules thread for 2015.

Please use this as the ONLY thread to announce your intention to participate. If you use another thread and think you're signing up, you're dead wrong and we cannot be held legally responsible (pretty sure about that).
Also, please don't post on this thread unless you're signing up. Management reserves the right to sign up anyone who posts on this thread just for S&G's or to proclaim he's not signing up. If you feel the need to podunk about the contest, use another thread.
[COLOR="#FF0000"]This year there will be two contests: a whitetail contest and a “Small Game/Other” contest. You are automatically entered in both if you sign up for the whitetail contest. However, if you’d like to be in the SG/O contest but don’t expect to hunt whitetails this year, please tell me so I don’t put a non-hunter on a whitetail team.
The whitetail contest will have two divisions: Vertical Bow and Any Other Legal Weapon. Crossbows participate in AOLW, along with atlatls, spears, special forces fighting knives, shotguns and rifles. Teams will be selected to participate in both contests. Your buds on your bow team will be your buds on the AOLW team. There is no need to sign up twice, or to choose which contest you’ll be in.
Scoring for the whitetail contests will be the same as in the past, regardless of weapon used.
The Small Game/Other contest will be a photo contest, though, with winners in each category (to be announced later) selected by the votes of forum members. You do not need to be in the contest to vote. You do not need to kill an animal to submit a picture. The only three requirements for the SG/0 contest are that you 1) sign up for the contest, 2) go on a SG/O hunt this year, and 3) submit a photo taken this year. You may use any legal weapon on your hunt. Bowhunters compete with everyone else.

[B]Deadline for sign-up for the contests is August 14 at 5PM Eastern.[/B] The drawing for team assignments will be done at 6 PM. Team assignments will be random, as in the past.
[B]Late entries will be considered for newcomers this year.[/B] However, this will be completely at the contest administrators' discretion. If you are a regular, you don't have a good excuse to sign up late. That is not to say that we can't be bribed. However, if late sign-ups have the whiff of even a smidgeon of corruption, or if they begin to appear to be a pain in the ass, you will be SOL after August 14 at 5PM whether you're a regular or not. That is, there is NO GUARANTEE you will be accepted into the contest if you sign up after August 14 at 5 PM. Late entries (those after August 14) may have to wait for team assignment, and there is no guarantee of team assignment. You could wind up playing with yourself. That could lead to possible blindness, and also handicaps you if team prizes are involved.
[B]You will not be able to enter a deer killed before you are assigned a team. If you wish a deer you've taken be counted for the contest, you must have been assigned to a team prior to the kill. No exceptions.
Under no circumstances will a late entry be accepted after September 30.

If anyone has an issue with the shorter contest period, start a separate thread. We might need a Scorekeeper/ Spreadsheet Czar this year...We seem to be having trouble dialing in the settings in our transporter room correctly, and our Chief Engineer seems to be lost in cyberspace....Well, really, he fades in and out and never quite gets his molecules all together and back to normal, but I'm not sure if that's a problem with him or with our equipment...LOL

Here are the rules for this year, modified from the past where I have highlighted. [COLOR="#FF0000"]I have the contest ending earlier, and have modified the team selection process as well. Also, the Whitetail Contest has two Divisions, a Vertical Bow Division and an Any Other Legal Weapon division. [COLOR="#FF0000"] Vertical Bows compete in the Vertical Bow division. Crossbows compete in the Any Other Legal Weapon division if they are legal in your hunting area. [/COLOR] See Post #1 for more details if necessary.

Please note the kill-reporting process. For any major problems with the rules or my changes, I am available for duels at dusk with either sabers or pistols...sunrise not so much. Call me lazy, but it's really just good time management.
1) Teams will be drawn at random at 6 PM Eastern Time on August 14. We will shoot for a minimum of three hunters per team. Deadline for signing up for the contest will be 5PM Eastern on the 14th. See Post #1 for info on late sign-ups. Late sign-ups are discouraged.
[COLOR="#FF0000"]Hunters who sign up for the Whitetail Contest will be automatically enrolled in both the Vertical Bow Division and the Any Other Legal Weapon Division. They will also be automatically enrolled in the Small Game/Other Contest (details to follow). If you do not plan to hunt whitetails but do want to be in the SG/O contest, please tell me when you sign up so I don't put you on a whitetail team where you can't pull weight with teammates. I'll deal with any massive influx of Other Weapons hunters to the contest (if there is such an event) at my own discretion, so as to prevent confusion in the contest or detriment to the Vertical Bow division, and will do likewise if there is a massive influx of bow-only hunters causing harm to the AOLW teams, LOL [/COLOR]
2) [COLOR="#FF0000"]Each contestant will be able to score one deer, buck or doe, in[B] each [/B]division. Shoot one with a vertical bow, enter it in the Vertical Bow Division. Kill one with anything else, it goes in the Any Other Legal Weapon Division. VB deer cannot be entered in the AOLW division. [/COLOR]
3) Each contestant will be allowed to cull his own deer so as to register his highest-scoring deer in substitution of another deer he might have registered earlier. He will not be allowed to cull for the other members of the team.
4) All contestants must follow the hunting regulations applicable to the area they are hunting.
5) Any deer must be registered with the contest administrator no later than 10 days after the kill. You must have picture proof of your kill. Register your kill by posting a picture [COLOR="#FF0000"]WITH YOUR WEAPON[/COLOR] in the special contest kill thread we will set up. If you want to post a story with your picture, you can do that in a separate thread if you wish, but all kill registrations must be made in the official contest kill thread. You are responsible for making sure your kill is registered, for providing a score to the administrator when you post your pic, and for making sure that your entry shows up in contest reporting stats.
6) Contest dates are from Aug. 15 through January [COLOR="#FF0000"]15.

The SG/O contest will be an individual contest, rather than a team effort (although that may change in the future).[B] The pursuit of any game, predator or varmint other than whitetail deer by any legal hunting OR trapping method qualifies for SG/O status, and any legal weapon or trap may be used[/B]. You do not need to kill or take an animal to be able to submit a photo for the contest. The pictures you submit should be related to SG/O hunts you go on this year, but do not need to be taken on the actual hunt. A picture of you sweeping out your hunting camp in August would be okay, for instance. All that is required is that the picture should be at least loosely related to your SG/O efforts this year, and that the picture be taken this year.
There is no limit to the number of pictures you can submit, but multiple submissions should be named or numbered by the entrant to promote easy identification.
There will be six categories for photos:
Scenery
Game or Wildlife Pictures
Hero/Dead Animal Pics
Camp Pictures
Cool Stuff (rifle against a tree, armadillo on its back, abandoned still, old house place, etc.)
Buddy Pictures
You decide what category you want to enter your picture in if it's close. For instance, a picture of your buddy at 4 AM before he's had his morning coffee could be a camp picture or a buddy picture. You pick.
Post the picture on the thread we will establish soon, state your category and the details of the photo (date, general location and as much of a background story as you choose to tell). Members can give a picture contest points on the open forum by posting that they "like" a picture, or they can send me or the Contest Scorekeeper a PM if they wish to "like" anonymously. At the end of the contest we will put all the photos in each category up against one another and have a "Best in Category" vote that will work the same way. I will take the "likes" and the "Best in Category" votes and announce the winner in each of the six categories. BiC votes at the end will be weighted more heavily than "Likes" tallied during the contest, but "Likes" can be used to pick a winner in case there is a lack or absence of final votes.
Lobbying for likes and votes for your photos is allowed, as is recruiting new forum members to join HC and vote for your pics... At least until WB enrolls his entire Boy Scout troop to vote for him, and ruins the good ol' boys club we've got going on here. :wink
Contest dates will run concurrent with the Whitetail contest (Aug. 15-Jan. 15) but pictures can be from any time in 2015 through the end of the contest.

He was a 7 or 8 year old buck plus he had been in the cooler for 3 days, & Kelly's had been in for two, mine was shot the afternoon before.

I moved my feeder to the other side of the property because deer hadn't found it yet. This morning at 0530, looks like this small buck finally found it. It can only get better from here I hope.

[B]To all latecomers: The deadline for entering the contest was August 14, but we will try to squeeze in late entries until Sept. 30. [/B]However, this is not guaranteed, and is at my discretion. Abuse of the deadline, an attempt to pack a team with ringers after the first draft, or just general chaos caused by late entries are some but not all of the reasons that latecomers might not get into the contest even if they raise their hands before Sept. 30.
Also, a reminder: This year we have two contests going on. One is a WHITETAIL contest, and the other is a SMALL GAME/OTHER contest. Mule deer would be in the SG/O category, which is a [COLOR="#FF0000"][B]photo contest[/B][/COLOR], not a "kill" contest the way the whitetail competition is. A monster mulie or elk or whatever will not win the contest. A picture related to your SG/O efforts will, even if you skunked on every hunt you went on this year.
