We start early around here at Hunting Country, with some seasons opening in August...None of this sitting around $#!+ like they do over at Delta Iota Kappa...To prevent chaos, sign-up is encouraged and sometimes required by August 14. Don't miss your chance to get in on the action.

Timing on this is funny; hunting season must be in the air...

This morning, my soon to be 15 year old got up wanted to go along for my early morning walk with me... (This impressed me because I know for a fact he didn't hit the hay until almost 2:00 AM!) Anyhow, during our walk he brought up deer hunting and was full of chatter about what we need to different this year, as well as reminiscing about previous years. :tu:

I'd consider all that...

I think the gun hunt would be a parallel option, separate from the bow contest. [COLOR="#FF0000"]Instead of a different point system, which was my first instinct, maybe the same scoring scale we use for archery would suffice. I'll cogitate on that some more, and please add your thoughts.

Maybe a photo contest rather than a point system on the small game and 'other." I don't think there are that many competitors to fight it out over mulies or elk, or wabbits and skwirls...LOL

Well, it's not like you're making donuts for a living...

Don't get me wrong: I love donuts, and they're not gonna bake themselves, but the North Koreans don't respect donuts, at least not at the top. I'm sure your average North Korean peasant would like to get his hands on a few donuts, but there could be a little more restraint shown in Pyongyang.

Rich, the javelina are mean critters they are not scared of anything, one time a big boar charged me beside the feeder pen & I had to dive into the pen to get away, he got his nose under the fence & shot into the pen, I dove back out over the fence & headed for me, I made a beeline for the tripod that was 20 yards away, I looked back while I was running & I saw he had something in his mouth shaking it vigorously, when I settled down up in the stand I could see my cap laying in the pen. After he left I retrieved the cap which was mangled & full of holes. As for eating them, they stink too bad for me to even consider gutting one.

Here are my thoughts on the small game/other contest: Let's make it a photo contest with winner decided by votes. There would be at least 5 categories: Scenery, Game or Wildlife Pictures, Hero/Dead Animal Pics, Cool Stuff (rifle against a tree, armadillo on its back, abandoned still, old home place, etc,), and Buddy Pictures. The pictures should be centered around small game or "other" hunts, but for the first year we'll accept pics of your whitetail camp or pics taken while hunting whitetails.

Also for the first year, pictures can be from any year as long as you [B]go[/B] on a small game/"other" hunt this year. In future contests, say starting in year Two or Three, we would probably limit photo entries to current year photos by hunters who have taken small or "other" game that year to qualify. This gives you a chance to stockpile some photos this year that can be used later.

Thoughts, questions, concerns? ---I'm open to suggestions on the scoring/voting system, especially...

I'm on board with this idea, with one exception...I think the Small Game / Other contest (even tho it's the first year) should be from the current year only. It's still plenty early enough for anyone to plan something for this fall season (if they want to put that much effort into it, but I think that most guys are going to do what they do regardless, but if there is a contest then they may be more purposeful in taking pictures).

We can always have a contest for previous years seperately. Heck, you can call it: 'A Blast from the Past' or what ever...just my .2 cents.
