Does it seem like that when the snow carpets the woods deer start moving aroung ALOT later then when there is no snow?

Not a snow expert, LOL...

But when we get snow, the deer definitely act differently. There is a depth as well as a miserability factor (copyright Swamp Fox 2014) to how differently. More than a skiff and you might as well count on them shutting down for "a while". I've seen them shut down for up to two and three days after a bad storm.


I wonder if moving later is a function of having more (reflected) light with snow on the ground.

I always though it was because they, ( and every other critter ), simply stands out a whole lot more.
They won't come out till after dark,[I] after sun set.[/I]

I agree they 'seem' to act like they know they are more visible. Unless it turns bitter cold after the snow. Then they are up on their feet earlier, sometimes much earlier than dark.


PS - Never listen to someone below the Mason Dixon talk about snow or driving in the snow. They know nothing about either subject.

In the mornings, after a hard freeze overnight, they'll move later, after the leaves are less crunchy...to walk on and to eat...

Brevard, NC is famous for its white squirrels. I've seen black squirrels here and there ---not in the Carolinas, though. They (the white squirrels and the blacks) are grays, not fox---I don't know about elsewhere, but we have a lot of black fox squirrels in this area.

Toxo and I have been thinking about a squirrel hide colliction. Have some around here that are gray with red tails and black with red tails.
