What's been the best producing set up for you...like blind and bow, blind and shotgun, either no blind, sit call wait?
I turkey hunt the same spot every spring blind and archery equip. With little callin I do and decoys some years better than others was thinkin about changing it up but would like good ideas to look at for trying out. 2.) Deerminator - 03/09/2013
I haven't been useing decoys. Here in NY our season opens May 1st. Which is the end of the breeding period.
The hens are heading to the Tom's rather than the Tom's running to the hens. In general. I try to ambush them. Hide in the blind or woods.........wait for them to come sneeking along.........now wait for one to get in range.....look for a clear shot ( gun or bow ) and BLAMMO!!! 3.) i like to set my blind pretty close to where they roost, i actually have better luck in the evenings than the mornings. like you, i've been hunting the same spot for yrs give are take 20 yards..
mornings are good if i dont set up to close, after that first hour of gobblin action, then everythings quiet, i like to call pretty loud just to get there attention and let them no where i'm at.then for the next hour i'll cluck and purr with some soft yelps ..3 maybe 4 yelps ..if nothing shows i'll repeat it.. then if nothing shows again thats when i go in town and have a dennys big boy breakfast.. 5.) crookedeye - 03/10/2013
my funniest hunts are evenings.. sometime you sit there and give out a call..and you hear a gobble..and the best part you no he's comming,..,

Thanks CE! Our spring hunt ends daily at 1pm .... I guess gives em time to recoop and unstress. It's great knowing when they're on a string

I start out in a blind but usually wind up chasing and trying to find a big tree to drop down behind to get drawn. Decoys rarely because these birds around here are getting decoy shy. They'll come in but hang up and watch the decoy.

Have to stop at 12:00 noon here.

Spring turkey hunting is so dynamic that it's hard to have a go to set up. What works one day may flop the next. I also hunt the same area every year and have found that timing is everything. As the birds feed through an area and move on, you can either be set up like a bandit or left in the dust. I like to start scouting and listening in the mornings a good month before the season starts. Gives you a good idea if they are moving in to your spot or moving out.

heres my basic set up. 11.) Hunter - 03/10/2013
I have never used a blind or decoys. I do have a special spot I hunt every year. I sneak in early among 'em. There's a little clearing in the middle of a swampy area. They roost all around it and usually pass through there early on. I will be there NEXT SAT! :hb:

i bought me some of those gobbler getter broadheads from nap..last year i used the green rage 2 blade, shot a bearded hen, she was walking away and shot her in the back..the hole that rage put in her was huge. i couldnt believe i had to finish her off..

I took my nephew on the youth hunt and had a great time seen 2 dozen birds but 4 of the 6 gobbles were huge and none would come into my set up with the pretty boy n girl...... season starts tomorrow for us and I won't be able to get out til Sunday due to work. I think I'm gonna use just hen decoys and see what happens. I'm pumped .....can't wait.
