My wife and I recently took a little Vacation / Photo Adventure trip to Lopez Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. Here are a few of the photos I took.
Between the two of us and our 3 cameras we took 1132 photos in 3 days.

I looked at job on the San Juan islands a few years ago...it looked like a beautiful place to live and work, but I was concerned about finding a reasonably priced home.

What is the stone marker for, and is that a light or bell tower on the old skiff? Do you know how it was used? Original equipment of some type, or added to place as a buoy? Or beached to use as a land light?

Thanks Bob! :) The San Juans are gorgeous, but Very Expensive places to live! Plus you have to contend with the Washington State Ferry System. The darned ferries have been plagued with breakdowns this year. One broke down while we were on Lopez.

Housing prices are Astronomically priced!

:) Thanks Swampy! :) The old boats were what was known as Reef Boats. My Uncle was born and raised on Lopez Island and in his youth he worked on those little boats. He says they were anchored front and rear, with nets spanning in between several boats to form a "Net Reef". The little towers on the boats is where the nets were hung and stretched between the boats.
When the old boats were decommissioned they were dragged up onto the sand spit and abandoned in a small "boat graveyard" to serve as a reminder of days gone by.

The marker is a reference marker monument:

Cool...I thought the marker might have been a geodetic marker, but I've never seen one so big.

Thanks for the explanation of the reef boats. I never thought of nets. I don't know of anything similar here, but who knows...
