1.) Wild Bob - 09/27/2014
May be this is a good time to post this in light of the new guy's post...

So last night I had some down time and made the mistake of turning on one of the outdoor channels. I watched this numb-nuts on Fear No Evil not only make a ridicously long shot at buck standing in a river, during a thunderstorm, while it was raining, but then make a bad shot. He hit far back and just by luck caught the liver. It was not a responsible shot to take in my opinion.

What really turned me off was the fact that he was more hung on him self and his 'Amazing, fear no evil' BS 'getting it done in extreme conditions' than promoting sound ethical bow hunting. What a ding bat... all in the name of entertainment I guess.

Once again I'm reminded that sometimes 'so called hunters' are our own worst enemies. My 14 year old shows more responsible, manly behavior than that guy showed.

Any one else see it? Am I just turning into a cantankerous old bow hunter...or does any ones else see what I see?
2.) Hunter - 09/27/2014
I didn't see it but sounds like I didn't miss much! Crazy!

4.) Floyd - 09/27/2014
Oh wait, let's make that befuddled cantankerous old guy. You know, to cover all your bases.
5.) Floyd - 09/27/2014
Fear No Evil  C'mon, seriously?

Look how the Drury Brothers artificially manufacturer excitement for their shows.

And we all know the only reason we watch The Crush is to see Tiffany; the only exciting thing in that show.

Dang Wild Bob, you'd flip your lid if you saw your Neanderthal and Cro-Magnon and earlier brothers hunt.

Well, I'd never even heard of this 'Fear No Evil' show...so I didn't know what to expect. Now I know...as bad (worse actually) than most of the others I've seen.

I'm not a fan of any of those shows, and don't watch any of them. Like I said, I just had some down time; I should have shot my bow or took the dogs out in the back yard for a little wing on a string session or something. Heck, anything would have been a better use of that 15 minutes that I watched!
7.) Wild Bob - 09/27/2014
I'm not trying to be high and mighty on this. We all (most of us on here!) were young once and cut our teeth...I think it's safe to admit that we all made mistakes shooting at deer. (I'll admit it anyway - I never claimed to be perfect.)

BUT...fortunately a lot of us (me included) made those mistakes because of ignorance and inexperience, not egotistical, greedy, narcissistic BS. :bang: AND, I (as I'm sure many of you guys) had a responsible, caring mentor that helped make sure those mistakes were short lived and that I learned from them. I mean we're human, and we all can learn. But then again, maybe not...

OK, I'll shut up now.
8.) Floyd - 09/27/2014
Bob, is it fair to call you a licensed recreational hunter? I'm thinking yes.

And as such, would it be fair that you can afford and have the luxury of picking your deer and your shot? Probably so. (excluding the last day of deer season of course, where your more apt to take a chance than what you would normally)

I'm not in favor of lawlessness, unethical or politically correct mumbo jumbo stuff, and I'm sure enough not in favor of a zero defect, zero tolerant society.

A lot more people take risk and chances, then we know. Heck, look at our driving habits were five to nine miles over the speed limit is socially acceptable law braking.

Now, you see a show that is replicating (I say replicating because how real is reality TV anyway?) a desperate survival situation, and the guy trying to survive takes a desperate shot, during a desperate situation....AND the arm chair quarterback in us jumps out and throws a flag at the TV.... (among other things). How sane is that? "Were you not entertained?!!" Clearly you were not entertained. But, the guy is eating a piece of liver with a hole in it (success).

(Of course, all bets are off with reality TV)

P.S. I bet you cried when Luke and Laura got married on General Hospital. Didn't you?
9.) Wild Bob - 09/28/2014
Floyd,

I’m sorry Amigo, but I’m not rolling over on this one:

I can honestly say that I have never watched General Hospital...nor do I care to; but thank God that I live in a country where I'm not forced to. Believe it or not, I’m also thankful that the other folks that do like General Hospital can have at it all they want. Just as everyone that enjoys 'Fear No Evil' can partake all they like, or not. I'm not faulting anyone that does like watching it; that's their choice and thankfully so (again). Most of all, thank God I can choose to live in a place where I can go out into actual places that don’t see boot prints for months on end month and live out my own adventures.

What I am being an 'Arm Chair QB' about (I guess if you want to call it that; but I somewhat disagree with that, since I have a lot of actual experience with what I am commenting on here) is that impressionable, young, and inexperienced bow hunters can see this TV show and think it’s OK and believe that whatever goes is OK. I'm not pie-assed...I never claimed to be perfect and I never claimed to not making mistakes (again). Argue all you want; this is America and we can beat out brains out on the wall over this, if we want to...at least we don't have the KGB, Pol Pot, or ISIS doing it for us (beating our brains out for their beliefs in our own homes). For clarification, I called the guy an idiot for taking an irresponsible shot; I didn’t say lets punish him, pistol whip him, or imprison him.

I knew I shouldn't have put this on here because I didn't want to get into a pissing match over it...but I went against my better judgment and see what that got me. I guess my hope was that someone that might not realize the difference between the entertainment business and legit hunting might read this, sit back think about it for a moment. I hoped to spur one to at least consider that a little thought should go into choosing one's shots. I agree with you, we all partake in risky behavior – but that doesn’t mean one should promote or condone it.

Additionally, please don't presume to know me, and assume that I'd chance a stupid shot on the last day of the season. Why the hell would I do that anyway...? To throw caution to the wind on the last day of the season would exemplify no respect for my quarry; not to mention that it would negate the integrity my actions all season up to that point (why work towards a goal to piss it away?). Believe it or not...there are still some people out there that believe strongly enough in their actions, that they don't just sell out on a whim. I have been in exactly that situation twice within the last five years. Once bow hunting and once rifle hunting I did eat tag soup because both the shots I had on the last day (last few minutes of the last evening actually) were not solid shots to take. Did I like it? No, but to this day it still feels a whole lot better knowing that I didn’t wound either of those deer not to mention it feels good knowing that I honored my belief.

Lastly, just for clarification; I’m not fighting, being pissy over this or picking a fight – I’m just clarifying my beliefs on this matter. Now, with all due respect, I'm not going to perform elderly porn... :-)

Good luck and good hunting, now get out there and get a nice deer anyway you see fit… :wink

You're all over the map Wild Bob.
11.) muleyfever1 - 09/29/2014
bob that looks like words a respectable hunter would write. id have no problem sharing the woods with you. that Floyd feller seems to know a lot about hunting. he says sumthing on almost every section ive red. I guess being from texas he nos a lot about it. but us okies never did give texans
much credit for stuff.

The old Texas-Oklahoma gambit. You are a Rhodes Scholar. Uncle, I give. You win.
13.) Triton Rich - 09/29/2014
I saw that same episode of FNE, I was rolling my eyes as well. I generally like Chris Bracket and his show is ok but I've watched him take several 60+ yard shots and all were bad hits that ended up as dead deer by pure coincidence. I wonder how many of them he's missed even more badly....
14.) Floyd - 09/29/2014
Here's the web site: http://www.fearnoevil.com/

A hunting show. Based on what Bob wrote/described, I was thinking it was a survival/reality show of some sort and the guy was a none hunter. Which led me to, WB didn't know too much of what he was talking about, he didn't know what the show was or the guys name. I feel now he was trolling for an emotional response. In which the TV show won on all accounts. In bold below, I would say mission accomplished, with arguments on did he learned something and was it really a epic kill shot. But, I suspect Mossy Oak and the Outdoor Channel is talking about the show and all its episodes in general, not just one episode. (You're free to misunderstand and take my comments out of context now)

About the Show

Chris Brackett's Fear No Evil presented by Mossy Oak is a darker, more serious look at what makes a hunter tick—it's about pushing one's self to the breaking point and then looking back on the experience and learning from it. Host Chris Brackett, known for his high energy and intensity, takes you on hunting adventures around the world – from your backyard to locations a million miles away. Chris brings you heart-stopping animal encounters, epic kill shots and breathtaking cinematography that is second to none. With several Golden Moose nominations and awards won, Brackett and Chris Brackett's Fear No Evil presented by Mossy Oak are looked at to push the limits and set the bar for outdoor television.

Yeah, that's what started the Civil War, the old Texas-Oklahoma feud. I agree with Bob that a lot of the hunting shows consistently show TV stars lobbing arrows at any distance and direction, ignoring sound ethical shots.

Floyd I think we're being trolled by someone. I will attempt to find the IP Address and see if it is who I think it is. No one would come on here with that first post unless he was completely clueless or trolling for an argument. I'm not biting.

I luv shoo-fly pie.

I love Spinach.

I believe you are right Luv2.

Now that I know and understand more despite the OP and follow up. I'm all for Wild Bob to hang that sucker high on social media for some well desire vengeance. (No soft balling like you did with Muley)

Didn't see it as I don't get the Outdoor Channel. I understand your frustration and would have felt the same way had I seen it. I posted in Swampy's thread that I hear "I took the shot because it was the only one I had" on that channel a lot and it upsets me. Just because you have an iffy shot doesn't mean you take it or your lack of opportunity doesn't make a shot acceptable. All for TV I suppose. What maybe producers/hunting stars don't realize is that it would be more entertaining for someone to say, "Nope, not going to chance this one". They would provide a little education for those not quite understanding the process and maybe develop a whole new following.
18.) Wild Bob - 09/29/2014
Come on over here Floyd...I want to give you a big ole bear hug! :-)

Then lets sit down and share a piece of shoo-fly pie with Luv2!!! :tu:

? WTH? Guys, I wasn't trying start a big argument...just blowing off a little steam.
19.) luv2bowhunt - 09/29/2014
There are no bad shots. Just bad people who take them.

You my friend, are most unconstant oddity.

By all means continue to beat me up because I was thinking the show was a survival reality TV show.
Now, you see a show that is replicating (I say replicating because how real is reality TV anyway?) a desperate survival situation, and the guy trying to survive takes a desperate shot, during a desperate situation. (Oh by the way you didn't correct me on this. Did you know or or not know it was a hunting show? Don't answer. It doesn't matter now.)
In my mind, I can't fathom a hunting program showing something like that; hence my folly in thinking it was not a hunting show.

Here is the important part (pay attention); Now that I know the show 'Fear No Evil' is a hunting show and the dude in the hunting show is a hunter, I agree that the hunter's judgement can be considered questionable. Surely an episode one (I refrained this time from using the word "you" to lesson one's confusion) can learn from vicariously. I guess that could be good or bad. (feel free to read that as "can be") I'm not going to spell out the "good or bad". I leave that for one's contemplation and consideration.

LOL

Can you imagine if Roger Raglin tried to do the bad-ass hunter routine? Few, if any, can truly pull it off without looking like DB's.

Have you ever wondered why there are no bad-ass fishermen? Oh, sure, there are some slick boats and some bad-ass boating videography, but bad-ass fishermen? Can anyone show me such a creature?

But allegedly bad-ass hunters? Dime a dozen.

I've highlighted the important part in bold red for your reading convenience...:wink

Considering the earth's circumference is only about 24,900 miles and some change, I'm wondering how he pulls off the hunting adventures a million miles away? Does anybody know? I don't watch a lot of outdoor TV so I don't know what all's going on!

SF, is that a hint to not take the show seriously? :re:
25.) Swamp Fox - 09/30/2014
Shooting stuff is serious.

"Probably the most serious that I know of" (in my Napoleon Dynamite voice)...:wink

Most everything else is further on down the scale.

I hate it when the whole show is hunting over waterfalls...How much skill does it take when the mama bear shows you where to set up and then you just wait until the fish jumps in your mouth?
32.) bluecat - 09/30/2014
Just try and move her off her spot.
33.) Swamp Fox - 09/30/2014
Oh, sure...If I had a stream with a bunch of falls and dams and a lot of fish swimming upstream and if it was just me and my family hunting it, I could kill some big salmon, too.

I just need some sponsors...And I'd be loyal to them, because I wouldn't use anything I didn't believe in.
