1.) Swamp Fox - 09/23/2014
Saw this deer this morning from the stand and then picked up some camera cards. Have not seen her left side in a good picture, but from all the evidence so far she appears pure white (not piebald).

I'd luv to see one from the stand.
4.) luv2bowhunt - 09/23/2014
Let's see the deer dead, with your smile behind it. Quit fooling around down there. Same goes for you billy.:wink

Can't wait, season starts Oct. 4 and I haven't been this excited in years. Not sure why, maybe because I blew my knee out last year and couldn't finish the season.
5.) billy b - 09/23/2014
Shut up Luv2, and by the way it is a piebald
6.) Wild Bob - 09/23/2014
Cool, I've never seen a real piebald in the wild. (I'm seeing some brown on the legs...wouldn't that classify it as piebald?)
7.) luv2bowhunt - 09/23/2014
I've seen lots of piebalds around here. You guys need to get out more, especially billy.
8.) bluecat - 09/23/2014
Swampy doesn't want to say the word piebald.
I've seen lots of bald guys eating pies around here. You guys need to get out more, especially billy.
FIFY! LOL:-)
10.) Hunter - 09/23/2014
That is cool. Glad you got some pics.

Hey, Billy. I don't think there's any brown on her. The back legs seem dirty to me, not brown-haired.

I've always called brown and white "piebald", but a white deer that is not albino but has no brown is just a "white deer."

I'd be interested to know if you call a white deer that is not albino "piebald" because I know some other people who do, as well. I think piebald by definition is multi-colored though, but I am open to being convinced otherwise.

Nah, I gotta jump in and argue with you on this one Swamp Fox...it looks to me like she has some brown on her neck and head areas as well. Also, the dirty legs don’t quite hold water for me because if you look on the back leg closest to the camera, I see what looks like brown above the knee area on the back of the leg.

Seems to me like it would be tough to get that dirty without getting the front of that spot also dirty...unless she was getting jiggy with something in reverse...and I don't believe deer were made to move that way.

My conclusion: Better pictures required to settle this matter.

And now I'm going to be silent on the matter because I don't want to be accused of promoting elderly porn! LOL :-)
13.) DParker - 09/23/2014
I still have never seen anything other than plain-ol' brown deer around here. How boring.

Anyway, this thread is racist.....somehow.

I haven't blown the pics up or gone over them with a microscope. What I think are shadows or mud could be brown hair. In any event, a different look than a "paint" which is about all I've ever seen (maybe one exception on the hoof).

:-)
16.) Swamp Fox - 09/24/2014
Well, now that I've caught up on my sleep--at least a little, LOL--and am out of the heat of the moment, I can see some brown that might be hair and not dirt, especially thanks to BZ's cleaned-up photo-job (Thanks for that!)

This deer was 50-60 yards from my stand while I was concentrating on trying to kill a doe much closer, and her legs and neck were partially obscured by brush, so I'm not going to swear they are pure white, especially after looking at that more focused pic.

I had a chance to buy a couple of white hides from my taxidermist a few years ago, and I've always kicked myself for not opening up the wallet. But I had just had several hides tanned and it wasn't cheap, so here might be another opportunity.

She certainly is not the leader of the pack, and she may be more wary than the average deer, and harder to get a shot on. We'll see.

It was certainly cool to see her. Now it's just a matter of seeing whether she's good luck or not. :wink
