What's everyone using?

I have an old moultrie D40 that I have had for 4 years probably. I have no complaints about it, pictures are good enough, and the battery life is good.

The other day at Scheels I picked up a Moultrie M-550. I just stuck it out the other day, so no pictures yet. I like it so far, I really like the small size, but I am interested to see how well the AA batteries hold up.

Im looking at getting at least 2 more, what's everyone else using?
2.) Swamp Fox - 08/18/2014
I have had good luck with Wildgame Innovations mid -range cams. I run an equal number of Bushnell Trophy Cams which have better battery life and a burst function but you have to count on approx. 1/4- 1/5 camera failure within the 2- year warranty period. A ltitle worse than that past two years. But most other brands only have a one-year warranty, so there's that.
3.) luv2bowhunt - 08/18/2014
I'm mostly using the Bushnell HD Trophy Cams. So far so good, quality of pic and video has been excellent. One I've had for 3 seasons so far, still going strong. The other one is in it's second year. The only complaint I would have is sometimes I'm getting false triggers from the sunshine, but that might be my fault with the settings, which I find a bit cumbersome.

The brand I've had the most trouble with is Cuddeback. Won't be buying another one of them anytime soon.
4.) Swamp Fox - 08/18/2014
Should have said that my Bushnell Trophy Cams all started out as Cabelas-brand. When and if they crapped out, Bushnell replaced them with minimal fuss and usually upgraded me (Bone Collectors, more LEDs, video). The problem was that the menu wouldn't come up anymore on 9.9/10 of the problems. Sometimes the cameras would still take pics but whatever settings you had before was what you were stuck with. Never had one that didn't run for a reasonable amount of time with no issues at all.

Dlc coverts and moultrie.
7.) Pa bowhunter - 08/19/2014
Moultrie M880's, I also have two older stealth cams that have served me well but I am really liking the bang for the buck on the m880..
8.) Swamp Fox - 08/20/2014
I'd like to know how the Primos no-glows do, but I think they discontinued the one I was looking at. I didn't like the EL (extended life) models for some reason.
9.) NEBigAl - 08/22/2014
Im gonna pull the pics from the new moultrie tomorrow. Let's see if I got a whole memory card of cows like usual
10.) Ventilator - 08/22/2014
Im using Primos Ultra 35`s now. I have 4 of them. Swampy may remember that I once got a pic of an elk at 55yds on one of those in NE back 2012. Great cameras. around 100 bucks on EBAY new. Battery life is 6months or better
11.) NEBigAl - 08/23/2014
Does it use AA batteries?

A little anecdotal evidence for the Swampster........ don't know if it means anything or not, but...

Just set out 15 cameras on our protein feeders to start our herd survey. All are Primos 46led except 1 which is a truth cam 60 and another which is a Primos Blackout. We expect the 1st few days to be slow until the deer get used to the cameras. 3 days after setting them out, I made a round to make sure they are all operating (nothing worse than wasting 2 weeks on a bad camera.) Interestingly enough, the average number of pics on each camera was 50-60 pics, some a little more, some a little less. Except for the Blackout which had 170 pictures. I had specifically used that camera over that feeder because I had to set it a little closer than I like.

Did the deer not notice that camera as they do the others? Coincidence? Who knows, just thought I would throw that out there for you. When we pull the cards in a couple of weeks, maybe the pics will tell the story.
13.) Swamp Fox - 08/24/2014
Thanks, Hunter. Keep me posted.

I think deer on food aren't as camera-conscious as deer on trails, which is where I'd want the Blackout/no-glow cameras.

Deer on plots/agriculture seem less camera-conscious than deer on feeders, with deer on licks somewhere in between. Deer on trails seem to notice the camera most of all.

Any one look at the Browning dark ops?
15.) Swamp Fox - 02/02/2015
I saw them in Sportsman's Guide a while ago but didn't look them up until just now. Here's a good review. I didn't dig any deeper than this, though. Seems like a good choice, especially for the money.

Swampy...your on top of this schtuff
thank ya
17.) Swamp Fox - 02/03/2015
Glad to help. :tu:

Thanks for pointing that camera out. :-) I'm looking for a no-glow or black-out camera myself.
18.) DropzOfWild - 02/03/2015
I seen another review where someone had it out for 5 months with 4500 pics and still had 50% life left....I also found them for $130 with 8 gig cards... I'll have a personal review when I get my two in a few days... & the 2 yr warranty is a big time plus
19.) Swamp Fox - 02/03/2015
That's what I like to hear! I have a bunch of Bushnell Trophy Cams and they have a 2 yr. warranty and I've used the heck out of it. LOL. I started out with the Cabela's Exclusive versions, and now through warranty replacements my collection is a mishmash of the originals and the "pure" Bushnell replacements---They're all out of warranty at this point, though, and I had some trouble with a bunch of them last year.

Oddly enough, the other half of my camera arsenal is a particular model of Wildgame Innovation (since discontinued) with a one-year warranty, and their durability has been absolutley outstanding. It's really no contest compared to the Bushnells. A few years of use and I am constantly fiddling with the Bushnells, while the WGIs keep right on marching.

I will say that the battery life is tons better on the Bushnells. If the Browning proves durable and has great battery life, that price is really attractive!
20.) DropzOfWild - 02/03/2015
I must say that the Bushnells have been my cam of choice as well.... Mine lasted over 5 yrs til the screen went out however still takes rock solid pics just don't know the time lol my only issue was extreme cold....they want to shut down but that's probably more battery issue than the cams them selves
I really wanted to try out a spypoint but the model I wanted they've discontinued.
I hope these Brownings prove to be just as awesome if not not better.

Very nice quality. Did you get any nighttime pics? If so, how did those look?
23.) DropzOfWild - 03/07/2015
No night time of deer just one of a coon and not a good one but quality not bad for night.. I'll upload soon as I can
24.) Swamp Fox - 08/28/2015
Bumping this up for the new season...I haven't made any changes to my arsenal, and haven't been keeping up. So, just curious what's looking good out there in newer cameras.
25.) Jon - 08/28/2015
I still use the Covert cameras and now have a cellular version. I really liked the covert cameras so I figured the cellular version would be a great one to try. I really like it, makes me feel like a kid at Christmas when I get a text from the camera!
26.) billy b - 08/28/2015
It must be nice to have a cell signal everywhere, I can hardly send a text from my house most of the time.
27.) Swamp Fox - 08/28/2015
Has the pricing on internet cameras and service come down at all? I have a vague impression from maybe three or four years ago. It seemed like a good bit of hassle (remember who you're dealing with here, lol) and pretty pricey.

Also, I'd be interested to know if plans are per image, per camera or maybe per month. Do you buy a certain amount of data?

Billy, I don't know who you're with, but around here Verizon has the rep for being most accessible even in the most rural areas. Alltel as well, even before Verizon came along. I don't know how common Alltel is anymore, though.
28.) Triton Rich - 08/28/2015
I sent in my Primos (Bushnell) Truthcam Ultra 46 for repair because the night pics all sucked. They sent me a new Proof cam. So far it's OK. Very good day pics and so-so night pics.

Started out with AT&T, currently with Verizon, not much better, I live in a very rural area.
30.) Swamp Fox - 08/28/2015
If Alltel still had a network here, I'd still be with them. They were super back in the stone ages. You might look into them. Seems to me they're making a bit of a comeback. Not sure why. I thought Verizon bought some or a large portion of their business/territory, but now there seems to be a little competition. Just how much, and how practical the present-day Alltel is, I don't know.

The camera I'm using has AT&T service and it came with a sim card, all I had to do was go on AT&T website and create a account, input the sim card numbers and choose a plan, it runs $25 for 90 days. Pretty cheap and very easy to setup (yes, even for you swampy).
They've been trying to get the Verizon model up and running for about a year, having difficulties obviously. I get better coverage with AT&T at my new place than Verizon. My cell phone is Verizon and it sucks at the house, can barely send/receive and phone calls are problematic.
32.) Ohbuckhunter - 08/28/2015
I have a order in for USA trail cams. Same as the coverts but run off the Verizon towers. Trigger speed is a lil better and battery life is suposse to be as good if not better. We will see when I get it in hands.

I don't see anything on their site that shows a Verizon model. Enlighten me piggie

DO NOT GET BROWNINGS THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS!
I had issues with certain functions of this from the get go. I made a few calls in the course of using them in the last year and it was try this and that then no do this and and end result was the same. So I emailed them and they're like oh we'll take care of you and do this and that .....vlah vlah blah.... end result I'm out cameras that they intact state are defective but because they strung me out of the 1 yr warranty my only option is to up grade for $120 a pc...(x2) what a crock of crap!
36.) Swamp Fox - 08/16/2016
Well, that's not good news. Gave you a hassle about dates or receipts?

I'm still interested---kinda--in a good blackout camera, so if anyone has a recommendation, let me know.

I have to say Bushnell's been a 9 out of 10 on their warranty. I think the only hassle I ever got from them was over something that was more confusing than an actual obstacle, and it was only once, which is damn good considering how much I've used their warranty.

Sounds like you need to get somebody else on the horn to go to bat for you. You probably have a paper trail of email dates, etc.

Can you speak to a manager or big cheese in Customer Service higher up than where you've been?

I had a problem with one Wildgame Innovation camera I sent in. They claimed they never got it and that I was required to send it in to them a certain way (with tracking and/or signature required, or whatever). Well, nowhere in their warranty/service literature did it say that (it may now) or I would have done it that way.:re: Knuckleheads.

I jumped up and down and stomped my foot a little, but --besides not knowing what they were talking about--they were obviously outsourcing their customer service to a call center, and pretty incompetently at that, so I just sucked it up. The camera was out of warranty anyway, so it wasn't like I was all that confident anything good would happen anyway.
38.) DropzOfWild - 08/16/2016
I had a bad cam in the past from a great customer service goof..... I say goof because he was in fact goofy in the 5 minutes of speaking and my end result was "no problem what's your email address" I told him and he said I'm sorry for your inconvenience if you do not have an email in 30 minutes call me.....I had a prepaid ups lable in 10 minutes and I know I had the replacement camera before they got the bad one.. why did I switch from Bushnell....(beating head against wall)

I'm still fighting the in emails
39.) Jon - 08/17/2016
I'm still happy with my Covert cameras. I run 5 of them 24/7/365 and they are still taking good pictures and video. I check them every week, change cards and check batteries. Some of my cameras stay out for 3 or 4 months on one set of batteries. I also have a plot watcher pro that also runs sun up to sun down and it gets new batteries about every 2 months. I have it taking pictures every 20 seconds so that's 3 pictures a minute every day, from about 0600-2030 or 2600 pictures a day. I'm very happy with the pictures I get from these cameras.
