I am getting some new arrows for my new Hoyt, getting ready for my elk hunt this September!
Hoyt Faktor 28" draw 70 lbs I will probably be getting them from Passthru custom arrows, for reference. I was really leaning towards the GoldTip Kinetic arrows, I like the weight and slimness of them (price is good too!). But they only come in 300, 400 or 500 spine! Would the 300 spine arrow be a problem? It really seems like I would be terribly overspined with a 100 grain head. Should I go ahead and get the .300 spine GoldTips, or switch them out for some other arrows at a .340 spine? I have read some conflicting stuff online. Some people say that its hard to be overspined, while others say the opposite! Any help? 2.) bluecat - 07/15/2014
You could always go to a 125 head if you have them. I've always heard that if you are on the line between two different spines go with the stiffer one. I think it might come down to where you sit in the charts.

Is there something wrong with the srrows your currently shooting? whats your KE?
4.) Dan-o - 07/16/2014
Go with the 300's and leave them a little long. Say 29 inches. You'd be fine. A little stiff won't hurt you. As a guideline, I shoot 300 spine out of 70 pound bows, 400 spine out of 60 pound bows, and make 340's work in either by either cutting them short or leaving them long.

My current arrows are lightweight .400 spiners, and they are already showing weak spine effects in tuning! 6.) Deerminator - 07/19/2014
Do they fly good if you crank the bow down to 60-65lbs?, if not then a stiffer arrow might be the ticket.
7.) NEBigAl - 07/19/2014
Yes they do, but I need heavier arrows for my elk trip
8.) crookedeye - 07/19/2014
get the fmj 340's..cameron hanes shoots 400's out of a 82 lb bow..but then again youre no Cameron hanes...lol..

I did ask them if they new ..BIG AL
10.) Deerminator - 07/19/2014
Al arrows would work for ya prolly get you up to a 600 gr arrow. And quiet the bow a lot as well.
11.) crookedeye - 07/20/2014
I shot the fmj's 340's at around 70 lbs with my z7 ..27 inch arrow give are take and I think they where to stiff ..broadheads flew to the left a little.. my 400 fly pretty good out of my 65 lb hoyt..field points and broadheads fly the same out of it.

I ran the numbers for both the Faktor 30 and the Faktor Turbo. The 300s @ 28" would be about perfect for either one.

Thanks! Im looking for something like a 450 grain arrow, this should get me right in there, maybe a little low. Might try a 115 or 125 grain head to get a little higher FOC weight too. 20.) Ventilator - 07/22/2014
410-450 grns is plenty for elk. It will blow right thru a ribcage and keep going into the dirt with a 70lb bow. Im a big fan of the small diameter arrows. I have shot two elk with Axis 340s . Last year I used the Injexion deep six series arrows on several deer and a bear. this year I just changed to Carbon Express Pile Driver Pass thru extremes. Same diameter as Axis . I got the 350s and they shoot great. Im a 28.5" draw and I cut my arrows 27.75" from back of the nock. I think I like these arrows better than the injexions for accuracy. Antelope in 3 weeks with Crookedeye and Dan-O!!!
21.) NEBigAl - 07/22/2014
Yeah these Kinetics are really small diameter. Where are you guys headed?
22.) Ventilator - 07/22/2014
Near Elbert, on the plains. Then I go back to Craig area for muleys aug 29.
23.) Triton Rich - 07/22/2014
I wholeheartedly agree with Kenny on the arrow weight. 400gn will get the job done just fine. I think the 500gn minimum is an antiquated notion from a time when the bows weren't quite as efficient as they are today.
24.) NEBigAl - 07/23/2014
Thats why Im not going for 500 grains!
