What new gear is of interest to you this year?
I was gonna do a review of some of the new gear reviews LOL (I spent the $24 on various magazines so you don't have to) but I think I'll keep it up my sleeve until we have more than 13 forum participants...

I'm liking the sight. Wonder if you can control the size of the dots. If it doesn't involve electronics how bright can it be in low light situations?
I like the fact the peepless doesn't involve looking elsewhere on your sight. Would love to play around with it.

I doubt size can be controlled, but I bet you could control brightness with a rheostat ring like HHA uses on some of their sights. I don't know that this sight has one or that it would be needed for dimming. I have the same question as you re. low-light conditions.

Okay D, I picked out two for you. A lot of mechanical broadhead info is designed to make my eyes roll up into the back of my head, so there's only so much I can take. Also, I'm not in the market anytime soon, so I'm not paying really close attention.
However, to me, these two are worth paying some mind to:
G5 Havoc---Looks like something of the cut-on-contact point I liked so much on the old black Tekans may be back in a souped-up, up-armored two-blade with a 2-inch cut. I have seen two pics of this BH with slightly different views of the point, so I'll have to see some in person to decide how hawt I'll actually get over this version for my own use.

I like the stabilizer quad rail on principle alone. I'd like it a lot more if I could think of something useful (to me) I could mount on it other than a video camera (it looks like the perfect place for a GoPro or the like). A flashlight is no good to me. It's not legal in TX, and I can't hunt public land in the dark anyway.
Maybe I could rig up a bayonet, just for the Deerminator seal of approval.

Nighttime hog hunting with a Hawg Lite or Sniper Light or the like :tu:...I knew a guy who had fair to middling luck on public land (near Center?) but he may have given it up by now. Or maybe it wasn't public land if there's a nighttime prohibition.
You should have seen everything I went through to rig up a bowlight years ago when I first started doing it for hogs, first in Georgia and then Texas. I finally had Timmer make me a stabilizer that would mate with a shotgun barrel rail and I had about three different types of attachment systems I went through, lol. I knew every small rail and light bracket sold in the U.S. at one point, and only about 1% of them came anywhere close to being useful on a bow.
If that bracket or their stab had been available about 10 years ago, I could add weeks back onto my life, LOL.
Unfortunately, I don't have the hog land in SC that I used to, so that whole set-up hasn't seen any action in quite a while.

Anyone else notice the sight was completely made from plastic? I'm not a big fan of plastic on my bow but it does look interesting.

I haven't had the sight in my hand, but from what I've read over the last month or two since I first heard of it, this seems more of a myth than a reality. I have read one or two reviews that say the sight uses some plastic in what seems to be a non-critical area, and a few more than one or two saying the sight is "not plastic", apparently in response to a handful of claims that "operators" broke something during installation. :bang:
I always try to read critically, and I have to say I'm leaning in the direction that the sight is a lot more metal than plastic, LOL, if not all metal. When you can't spell or use any punctuation in a simple review or forum post---when you proclaim something a "waist" of money--it makes me question how much care and smarts you brought to handling the sight to begin with, LOL. Especially when your address is the [COLOR="#FF0000"][B]A[/B][/COLOR]ppalachian [B][COLOR="#FF0000"]T[/COLOR][/B]rail... not that there's anything wrong with that.

There are some helpful reviews with both positives and negatives on Amazon, and I think I saw some at Cabelas as well.

I reread the advertisement and saw no mention of materials. Generally if a sight uses strong metal (aircraft aluminum etc.) they are proud of it and make note of it. There was nothing said, so your guess is as good as mine.

A slider or a fixed pin?
I would still love to see a slider with MULTIPLE sliding pins, but as far as I know, we're not there yet. Maybe with Trophy Ridge's React-One sight pioneering (?) the yardage dial mechanics (?), that idea will become obsolete, or more popular. :cf:

Does anyone know what the difference between this and using something like HHA's pre-calibrated tapes is? Initially I assumed there was a difference, but I haven't bothered to look up the set-up instructions or inspect one. My initial reaction was that the magic was in the dial mechanics and not in selecting the proper tape, but I could be wrong.

But in happier news, there's also the fact that apparently you push these "pins" and/or alignment wire all over the place to sight in and adjust for torque, so I suppose that has something to do with the need or no need for axis alignment of the bracket, as well.

Good video. I'd say the Whisker Biscuit was an idea that spread, and against the odds. Possibly the best example in archery, followed closely by the droop-away rest (a little less incredibly).
Also, both are brilliant, as opposed to sliced bread. What, so you don't need a knife and you save a couple of minutes feeding your family of six kids and a husband who's been working on the railroad all the live-long day?
I wonder what new gear people would go for if someone would just come up with the idea?

As a long-time sliding sight shooter, I don't know what "problems" this really solves, but it sounds good, LOL. Haven't seen one in person, but at least it got my ears perked up.

Check out the way you can get your bow light up toward the rest and sight...Excellent for shooting out of a window. Also accommodates a tripod (or a laser). [B]Very[/B] cool light-mode memory feature!

I did try mock scrape business a while back but this stuff I'll stick with.. I actually called David Healy from there and 50 questioned him fo death to get the most "bang for the buck" so to speak... As I said what works on this side of the fence may not on the other so all these products are simply trial and error to me....
I started making mocks about two to three weeks before I would normally start to see normal activity(late Augearly Sept). Used just the dominant buck first ..my 8 I shot on the first of Oct before I could get the doe estrus in that particular scrape. I started using the estrus puff when I noticed trailing / mild chasing..... The scrapes (4) I made, blew up to 3 times the size and stayed active longer than any one I knew of.. but I also noticed that a deer made scrape I decided to hit with some powder (estrus) in the beginning rut lost activity. I have been cameraless the last 2 seasons so I can't support my proof of powder with pics(hence the purchase of 2 new Brownings) this is a great topic that can go endlessly due to so many factors.. once I get my laptop I'll be able to post pics of locations of everything to understand how my thought process is with hunted area.

A few years back, I began starting mock scrapes even earlier than I used to (mid-August and sometimes even earlier) and with several of them going, found it a bit too much work/intrusion for the reward if I had to rely on drippers at all locations. A several-weeks mock scrape effort is a lot different from a several-months campaign, LOL. That's why I started looking into lower-maintenance tricks.

It's all intrusive .. has to be to get product out there..I guess that's why I mostly pick spots with open areas and minimal vegetation with rubber boots, but then again when that's the only kind of area you have for private hunting spot picking is made easy! I agree scrape maintenance is a lot easier and less likely to disturb deer if you can locate in areas that are easy to zip in and out of. I may need to try harder to accomplish that with a higher percentage of my sets. I'm sure I could on some hunting ground; in other places it would be difficult.
