just finished up a week of fishing with the family at awesome lake Champlain in upstate New York. Halfway home on the way back now. caught a bunch of nice smallies , northern pike and a few largemouth as well. A beautiful place that ive finally got to visit and fish!!!
Kids caught plenty of fish as I had hoped. Here are a few pics of our trip. 8.) Swamp Fox - 07/01/2014
Some nice smallmouth there. Did you target pike at all or did you find them with the smallies?
What did you fish? 9.) DParker - 07/01/2014
Nice haul. I somehow missed this thread before. I love northern lake fishing. But what's with the glove? Real men lip-lock their pike. :wink
Although I'm kidding, I saw a guy actually do that on a show once. He was some well known (although not to me) hot-shot southern bass angler who'd never fished a northren lake before they got him doing it on camera in Minnesota or someplace similar. They all had a good laugh over it once they got the bleeding stopped. 10.) Wild Bob - 07/01/2014
Nice fishing! Looks like fun and nice weather too. :tu:
11.) Jag - 07/02/2014
Nice trip! Love the action shot of the bass full out of the lake.

Thanks Jag, my daughter had that one hooked up! Ended up getting away at the boat, but that's what makes a fish story. And pics to prove it. lol

What did you fish?[/QUOTE] No, we didn't target the pike. We had 5 all together I think. They were in the hydrilla beds while fishing for bass. Most of the smallies were caught on dropshot rigs and jighead/grub combo. Had a green ROBO worm on the D-shot and a smoke 5" Yamamoto grub on the jighead. The largies and a few smallies/pike were caught on Lucky Craft jerkbaits. Couple of frog fish on topwater in the lily pad fields. Pretty much any way you want to fish on Champlain. Its one badass lake! Ive wanted to go most of my bassfishing life since I first saw it on tv years back. 14.) Deerminator - 07/02/2014
Excellent!!! yep thats lake champlain all right:tu:

Had the glove in the boat from one of our bowfishing jaunts for gar last year. Actually worked pretty good. A couple of the other pike we caught, I was able to grab them without it and land them. Others I just let shake off at the boat. The jerkbaits are hard as heck to get untangled from the net. I need to buy one of those rubberized nets at some point. Champlain is the best lake ive ever made a cast in. You should go if you get a chance. The best fishing was north of Plattsburg, not far from Canada. Id say end of July would be better overall. At least this year anyway. We caught 20-25 bass per day along with perch , sunfish and pike. Id say the 50-75 bass days would be very likely late July once the topwater bite really turns on. Water was only 63-65 degs all week and the smallies had just came off the beds. 16.) Ventilator - 07/02/2014
