This year I'm going to purchase a gun safe and needed some feedback. I've been looking at the Liberty Safes for awhile now and they seem to make a quality product.
I'm not wanting to spend much more than a thousand as I don't have a lot of firearms so don't need a giant vault. I just want some good fire protection and safety for the guns and valuables I do have. I can't have it weigh so much it isn't feasible to move either.

I was hoping also not wanting mess with electronics but rather the good old fashioned rotating dial system. This will also keep the cost down a bit.

Anyone have good luck with their safe or can steer me in the right direction?

Found some good information.

I have a Remington safe. I'm sure it's made by someone else but it has their name on it. It's advertised as a 30 gun safe but the way I have it setup, it can hold 20 long guns. The door has a 6 pistol pouch attached which I like allot. There is top shelf that I put the rest of my pistols on and store some ammo as well. It does have an electronic lock but it just allows the turning lock to be able to rotate. It's very heavy, required a few friends and a dolly to bring into the house. It's built very well and has everything I need in a safe. I do need to buy another very soon, ran out of room in that one.

I'm going to watch the video in a bit, so forgive me if this is covered...What have you learned about weight and portability so far?
5.) bluecat - 06/06/2014
I already own a Fort Knox Gun Box and was really impressed by the quality. So it's no surprise that Fort Knox Gun Safes are also high quality. So far I've learned the importance of comparing apples to apples. A composite door thickness does not compare with plate steel thickness. Fire ratings can also be skewed to look impressive. A small fire time at high temperature can equal a long fire time at low temperataure.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Were you wearing a big cowboy hat and listening to the Doors as you were sifting through the aftermath?

DParker will be in here shortly once he gets off his high horse...

oops wrong thread.

I love the smell of wood smoke in the morning...

It smells like...Hickory!...

Damn those boating accidents.

Actually, I will shortly be in the same position as one fish, blue fish here. I have a simple Stack-On safe but will need to upgrade shortly, as that one is not only not as fire-resistant as I'd like...it's bursting at the seams and won't hold so much as one more firearm.
13.) Jag - 06/06/2014
Good vid. :tu: in about the same spot as DP, got a Stack-On that I need to upgrade for about the same reasons.

Lean those guns, lean them all, lean those guns against the wall...

In most situations any gun safe will probably deter the common in-out criminal. But the money starts stacking up when you start protecting yourself against fire and the professional criminal.

I liked the double redundancy locks of the Fort Knox which allows you to use the electronics every day but have a backup system if it fails.

It looks like I'm going to break the budget.
15.) Swamp Fox - 06/06/2014
I think that's a smart system, although how smart--to me--would depend on the money. I can take a couple of minutes to spin a dial if it means saving several hundred dollars that I could put toward something more fun. But then I wouldn't be in and out of the safe all the time the way someone who actually owns firearms would be....
16.) bluecat - 06/06/2014
LOL! I know right?
17.) Jon - 06/06/2014
If you are truly looking for a safe for your guns, get at least a quad lock, solid steel safe. The others are a simple box that someone can effectively steal all your guns in one attempt. I had a stack on and a wood cabinet for years until I realized that 20+ guns could make someone a very rich thief.
The one I own has 6 locking rods and is a double walled steel box. It doesn't have lights inside but I did stick 2 battery operated lights in it and they do well.

I will not fire them in the house. I will not fire them at a mouse.

Honestly, from the demonstrations I've seen there isn't a consumer-practical safe made that will absolutely keep out the professional thief. The best you can do is bolt a good safe to the slab and wall and at least make it so that they can't just roll it away.

That'll depend. I had an empty [thankfully] Stack-on at a friends place when it got hit by a couple of criminals. The Stack-on looked like it had been jumped on, hammered, hit with a crow-bar, beat with a brick, so on and so forth. It was 4th of July weekend and they knew the homeowners weren't there so they took their time with it. If they hit your place after watching you load up for a weekend or week away they'd probably do the same, take their time and try to get in as the rewards could be pretty good for them.
20.) bluecat - 01/20/2015
I purchased a Fort Knox defender over the weekend. Any of you want to help put that in my basement? Anybody? Fellas? Hello? Free Wings?
21.) Swamp Fox - 01/20/2015
It's funny...I was thinking about this safe thread just the other day.
22.) Swamp Fox - 01/20/2015
I thought most safe dealers delivered/installed.

How do you like the safe? What was the deciding factor or three?
23.) bluecat - 01/21/2015
Most dealers will deliver to your curb or driveway and that's about it.

I don't have it in my basement yet so I can't give you a full report, but it's the safe I wanted so I know I'll be happy with it.
The most important factors to me were the fact that it was all steel and it had a high fire-rating. Most safes will give you some fire rating to say that they have it but the user unknowingly pays for a composite door and low fire rating all in the name of finding a really good price on a safe. I don't care so much about the color inside or out, whether it has a light inside or a dessicator or an alarm system. I just want it to withhold a big attack or fire.

The video I posted pretty much sealed the deal for me and so I stayed with Fort Knox. The pistol box I own from them is 10 guage steel for God's sakes. It's a work of art.

There are good safes out there. It just depends on what you are looking for.
